I loved this! I haven't read any of the other Maggie Riley books but I can't wait to start more! Will definitely be buying more from this author.

This is another steady read in the Maggie Riley series. The developing characterisation is good, especially Steve as he strives to uncover a secret from his past. My only complaint is that the pace was just a bit too slow at times but there was plenty of suspense to counteract this. It is a good read with a few twists along the way to keep the reader interested. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

I haven't read the other Maggie Riley book so I was worried but this can be read as a stand alone because I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. This was a fast paced book that kept me entertained and engaged. I read it in one sitting because I could not put it down. I will be checking out the rest of the series.

I DNF at 25% not sure if it is because this is the 5th book in the series and I have not read the others. I just could not engage with the chatacters.

I was very engaged with this exciting and thrilling crime story! This book starts off with a giant bang and doesn’t let up! 💣
A mysterious trailer explosion involving 3 deaths causes Chief Maggie Riley to jump into action.
What looked like a meth cooking explosion, isn’t so cut and dry and Maggie isn’t going to give up without answers!!
This is my first story from this author, but it won’t be the last!! Her writing and character development were excellent. I really felt like I was enjoying an intense movie! It was very exciting and entertaining with lots of twists and turns!
Thank you to NetGalley for an arc of this excellent book!!
*It comes out April 14th, so keep your eye out!! *
This is #5 in the Chief Maggie Riley series.
I’ll be checking out the others too!!
1.) The Girl Who Lied
2.) Their Angel’s Cry
3.) The Shadow Girl
4.) One Little Sigh

I have been so excited to get a copy of the newest installment of the Maggie Riley series. Last year, I pretty much became addicted to this series from the get-go. From the beginning, it just really checked off all of the boxes of what I love in a great series. I am a dedicated fan of series with strong FMC’s, preferably in law enforcement, and the higher the rank the more likely they’re going to be a fearless bad@$$!!! My fave kind of MC’s! Furthermore, I love stories about small town crime where the crime rate is just as high as any big urban city. Add in an overall creep factor to the town and its residents and all of their secrets, and I’m absolutely hooked!!!
The gangs all back for this installment with Chief Maggie nearly getting killed when she pulls up to a suspected meth lab and the lab is blown up and a charred body lands on the windshield just as Maggie starts to get out of her truck. This is not a spoiler since it’s how the story started. Yeah, that’s the way to grab a reader’s attention from the get-go. It’s not long before Maggie discovers something among the ruins that she needs to keep secret. Then there is all the drama surrounding who was in the lab when it blew up and the subsequent investigation that uncovers a lot more secrets. Then there is the secret surrounding dispatcher, Sue, who has been acting strangely and is determined to keep an eye and tabs on Maggie at all times. Yeah, that’s not suspicious at all – NOT!!! Deputy Kal is back and still holding onto his secret of what happened to him at his last job as well as his engagement and fiancé.
Steve is back too but is spending most of his time in MA because he has decided to get closure from a secret that he has been holding onto the entire series. He came clean with Maggie in the last installment because he didn’t want this secret hanging over him when they got married in less than a month. He didn’t want to start their marriage with this deadly secret from his past. All of this is going on while Maggie’s friends start planning her bachelorette party, that Maggie doesn’t want and is totally dreading.
The story flips back and forth between Maggie and Steve and all the secrets they are still keeping from each other. The investigation of the meth lab explosion and the victims dredges up a 20yr cold case that the former Sheriff, who’s a real scumbag and got voted out making way for Maggie, obviously was covering up a boatload of even more secrets that he didn’t want to get out. It’s deep into the second half that all the storylines and their secrets start to combust ending in a boatload of intense and scary scenes for Maggie and those that she cares about.
The continuing character development of Maggie’s relationships with the people in her life (Steve, Kal, Sue, Dr Ricky) were some pretty big steps for her. I can’t wait until Hollinger gets around to developing more of Maggie’s friends as well as the Coyote Cove townspeople. The pacing was steady to fast, just the way I like it and the storylines interesting. The writing was good, even if I found the Maggie chapters a little more interesting than the Steve chapters. I’m looking at an overall rating of 4.3 that I will be rounding down to a 4star review. I want to thank NetGalley, Bookouture for sending me this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

Oh my stars!! Shannon Hollinger knocks another one right out of the park! It’s so great to sink right into a book and feel like I am literally a part of the story. The characters were absolutely fantastic and hooked me from the very start. I had no idea who to trust, this was one wild ride. I love the storyline and brilliant storytelling.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this gem of a book.

fast-paced, addictive read will keep you on the edge of your seat which each turn of the page as well so make you ask questions like who's telling the truth and why did others lie , and can people who you think are friends, do we really know them. Plus this one shows just how much the characters have grown and came into themselves.

Book 5 in this series in which I have only read the first book, meaning I knew a little of Chief Maggie Riley, but there were gaps in my understanding of what was happening in her personal life. Easy enough though to put it together, so don’t be put off if this is your first read in Maggie’s world.
Maggie arrives on the scene of an alleged crime, just as there is an explosion and a charred body lands on her car. Yikes! Even more puzzling is when another body is found to be that of a woman who allegedly died 20 years ago. I was completely intrigued!
As well as Maggie’s case, her Fiancé is trying to resolve something from his past and this doesn’t get resolved in this book, so there’s more to come for that storyline.
The plot was great and I love Shannon Hollinger’s writing style which makes me need to just keep reading!
4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Shannon Hollinger and Bookouture, for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Book five in the Chief Maggie Riley series follows Maggie as she investigates the explosion of a suspected meth lab that killed three people, including a victim who was believed to have died years ago. The case takes a personal turn when the supposedly long-dead woman is linked to Maggie’s friend and administrative assistant, Sue. As Maggie untangles the mystery, she must also navigate the chaos of her bachelorette party.
Meanwhile, Maggie’s fiancé, Steve, returns to his hometown in search of the burial site of a young woman his best friend killed years ago. Desperate for answers, he turns to hypnosis - but instead of clarity, he finds himself more confused and terrified than ever.
This fast-paced, addictive read will keep you on the edge of your seat. I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and author Shannon Hollinger for the advance copy of this book.

I have never read something of this author. So I went in blind.
I did not regret it at all. It was a fast-paced thriller. It is the fifth book in the series, but that isn't a real problem. There is enough said about the past, to figure a few things out. All the characters have a troubled past with some secrets. So it is not the actual case only, but also some trouble from their past.
I couldn’t put this book down. There are two main stories, Steve search for something he might or might not have done, and the case Maggie is investigating that might or might not be connected.
The police case is solved, but the thing Steve is searching for is not completed, so I guess it's an on-going thing.
I really recommend this one. It made me think a bit about the next one of this series!

This is the 5th book that I’ve read by Shannon Hollinger and it was good, but I found it slow in parts which made it hard for me to stay completely invested in the plot. I will continue to read her books though because overall, I love them.

Thank you Net Galley and Bookouture for an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I have not read all of the Chief Maggie books but have enjoyed the ones I read. I think this book can be read as a standalone as it was for me. This book kept me engaged and wanting to see what was going to happen next.
I would recommend it to others.

Fantastic. It’s a dual pov and follows Maggie who is chief of police and her fiancé. The case a home explosion where the victim has already been presumed dead for 20years. Great thriller

I couldn’t put this book down. The dual mysteries—Steve’s search for the truth about the night Wesley killed and buried their college acquaintance, and Maggie’s unsolved but seemingly connected murders—had me hooked. It reminded me a lot of Harlan Coben’s books, where you have no idea how all the scattered pieces will come together. I was eager to see how everything would finally click into place. The writing was strong and easy to read, which made the journey even more enjoyable.
But then… the ending. I didn’t even realize it was the ending. I kept expecting more, only to realize the story was over—just like that. It was frustrating and unsatisfying, to the point that I thought it ruined the book.

Part of a series, best read in sequence. A twisted story of abandonment and revenge with plenty of twists.

The Day She Died is the 5th book in the Chief Maggie Riley series by Shannon Hollinger. This book can easily be read as a standalone mystery or enjoyed as part of the series!
This book was filled with so many twists and turns, and when you think everything is wrapped up, it keeps going! This is a fast read and was so good!!! Intense does not even begin to describe this! Wow!!!
I absolutely loved the characters! Chief Maggie Riley is fascinating! I can't wait to get to know her more in the future books.
If you are looking for a book that that you won't be able to put down, this is it! I know I'll be coming back to this series for more!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Chief Maggie Riley has a full plate with a wedding to plan and her fiancé Steve trying to absolve himself of a crime from the past. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of The Day She Died by Shannon Hollinger.
Another great read from Shannon featuring Chief of Police Maggie Riley.
When Maggie is called to a suspicious meth lab, the last thing she expects is for it to blow up in front of her.
With 3 dead bodies she needs to find out if this is accidental or murder. When it turns out that one of the deceased had already been declared dead 20 years ago. Maggie has to decide who she can trust.
There are a couple of hooks in the story to keep you reading, but I'm not sure they are needed as the story line is good enough without them,

It has been a while since I have read the previous book so I was a little discombobulated with the back stories (personal and profession) of Maggie and Steve. That took me a little bit to get organized in my head. I did enjoy the story and investigative sequence which revolved around domestic abuse. There are a lot of characters to keep track of which I had some difficulty because I could only read in short spurts. I don’t remember if this was an issue for me in the previous book, but I did find both Steve and Maggie very angsty. Sometimes to the point where I wanted to shake both characters. While Maggie solves her case, Steve’s investigation into a past transgression is still unresolved.
