Did anyone say say sexy Twister? Listen, I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t think storm chasing could be so hot but HERE WE ARE. The chemistry between Ryker and Finley was as fierce as an EF5. Kayla Grosse, you ate this story up and I cannot wait to dive into more of your books.
*Joey was the real star of the show though

This was such a different plot, I’ve never read a storm chasing book. It was great. It DEFINITELY had that “general male stupidity” that Kayla warned us about in her triggers.
But when the spice hit, it was hot. And the audio was great

The book overall was cute. I feel like the age gap and professorxstudent romance was mentioned a lot, but you didn’t feel it affecting the story much maybe because of the setting.

NetGalley gave me an audiobook ARC to review of Whirlwind by Kayla Grosse and when I tell you that this audiobook is SO GOOD! Take the movie ‘Twisters’ and add spice plus the Professor/Student trope and you get this amazing, body positive, sweet and spicy story. The performance of the audiobook was also outstanding. Amazing narrators and sound effects to go along with the story kept me engaged the whole time. When I tell you it is worth an Audible credit I mean it with my whole chest. 10/10 would recommend.

Whirlwind is a fun contemporary romance that plays on the movie Twister from the 90s and does it very well.
Disclaimer: I read this audiobook as a free advanced reader copy through NetGalley. Thank you, NetGalley to the publisher for the free audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This book was absolutely a whirlwind just like it's title. I fell in love with these two main characters. They were so interesting and endearing. I was really rooting for them to get together because they really honestly belong together.
The representation in this book was very good. We had a fat FMC, we had a Bisexual male character that was just a ton of fun and very representative throughout the book.
I thought the miscommunication trope was used very well throughout this novel. It went just far enough that it was believable, but not so far that it was frustrating and damaging to the story. The book was just enough like the old movie to be fun and memorable, but it was just enough. It's own beast to be fresh and fun. I really enjoyed how the female main character was so strong and independent, smart and not all ashamed of it and had gotten everything that she had based on her own merit. I enjoyed the fact that she was concerned that people would see her as Kurt tailing off of a man because that is how the world does work sometimes, but she always maintain her own license and dignity.
The spicy scenes were definitely spicy enough to add that flare, but they weren't so overboard that they felt out of place with the tempo of the rest of the book.
All that being said, I will definitely read something else by this author. I really enjoyed her writing style. The duel narration of the audiobook was done. It really really well. The voice actors sounded exactly as I would anticipate the characters to sound. I really enjoyed the voice of Joey in particular. I felt like that was just so spot on.

I got this as an arc after listening to other books by Kayla! I love that she uses characters that are on the bigger side because not everyone is this skinny perfect being. I loved that they were chasing tornados and their love that built from the beginning of the story. It was a true happily ever after for a girl with a bigger body and I want to see more of that in books! This was definitely a spicy listen but I ate it all up it was so good! I want a follow up on where they have ended up in life and storm chasing!

Whirlwind by Kayla Grosse was a wild, steamy ride that devoured from start to finish. I couldn’t get enough of Ryker and Finley’s love story. Who knew a student professor tornado chaser romance could be so much fun! Plus, the audio performed duet-style narration by Victoria Connolly and Grayson Owens featuring Robb Moreria was so immersive and had me hooked. I also love the added sound effects to make the audiobook even more entertaining and enjoyable. Loved it!

Whirlwind is a standalone novel with a nice little cameo if you’ve read the Cowboys of Night Hawk series. It follows Ryker West and Finley Buckley.
Never in my life would I ever think I read a book about storm chasing, but for Kayla? I would read anything. I literally devoured this book. It was definitely a quick read, which was honestly so refreshing. From the very first page, you knew you were in for a ride! The tension between this professor and student was THICK. They both were secretly pining for each other while simultaneously growing closer throughout the school year. One stormy night, lines were crossed, and there was no going back.
Riker is a professor and professional storm chaser. He is funny, charming, and a bit rough around the edges at times but is also very sweet and thoughtful. He can be a bit stubborn, which gets him into more trouble than good, but he is a good man trying to do the right thing.
Finley is a master student and storm chaser as well as a storm photographer. She has loved storms since she was a little girl and is quite passionate about it. She is smart, kind, funny, takes no shit and is a plus-size baddie. She is the kind of woman who won’t let others make rash decisions and is so freaking headstrong.
Their chemistry was fantastic and was a nice buildup. I really enjoyed the spice in this book as it was not too much and not too little! The side characters in this book were honestly the perfect comedic relief! Joey literally had me rolling with all of the different nicknames he would give to Ryker and Finley like Tornado daddy, T-Daddy, T-Mommy, and Fin-Fin were some of my favorites.
The audio was so freaking fantastic. I thought Victoria Connolly, Grayson Owens and Robb Moreira did a phenomenal job of bringing these characters to life. The sound effects really took this book to the next level!
I seriously loved this book so much. I am keeping my fingers crossed that members of the Tempest Trackers get their own stories because I would do anything to see more about these men!
Thank you so much, Kayla Grosse, Dreamscape, and NetGalley, for the gifted copy

I love this audiobook! The duel narration was perfect and the emotions that the narrators conveyed really added to the story.
Joey was the absolute best side character! He brought such a light humor to the book that had me giggling. He was the best wingman you could imagine. I loved the professor student dynamic and how realistic the characters feelings were. Even though I usually HATE a third act breakup, it made so much sense to this story I didn’t mind it at all.
There was some spice without being overwhelming which I really appreciated. The adventure, romance, and banter was such a great aspect to this book.

Thanks to Kayla, her publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ALC of her latest book!

I absolutely love me so Kayla Grosse and have this book on my radar for a minute (Do you see what I did there?) This book was just so fun! Twisters with a smutty twist! I have been a storm spotter for my state for about a decade and have always had a fascination with storms so I knew this book would be right up my alley. It doesn’t dive into the *science* but just packs action, fun characters, and some sizzling chemistry.
If you love Kayla’s books make sure to give this one a shot when it publishes. If you have yet to read anything from her, what are you waiting for?

If you are a fan of the movie twister this book is for you! It made for a different twist on a forbidden student/professor love story. It was fast paced and spicy and the audio was amazing! I loved the added sound effects and the narrators read it so well. Also to note the side characters were everything and I want them to get their HEA too!

Loved, Loved, Loved this audiobook!
Storm chasers, a hot professor and age gap oh my!!!! And yes we are in Kansas!!!
This was the perfect ode to all the super fans of the movie Twister & or Twisters and throw in a hot professor with a juicy forbidden age gap troupe and you have the perfect recipe for a action packed romance book!
The duet narration was done very well and the added sound effects made this a very entertaining audiobook experience

Thank you Netgalley and dreamscape select for the free ALC. My opinions are being left voluntarily. Kayla is an absolute go to author for me. I know that if she writes it, no question will be my jam. This is for fans of twister but more on the spicy side.
My only small thing is that it was a smidge to insta-love for me would have liked a bit more tension or banter. This is definitely a me thing and may not impact your reading at all.
The special effect sounds made it a unique experience and had me looking over my shoulders at times.
Suggest picking it up if you read open door romance

Who knew surviving after getting caught chasing a storm would lead to a very sexy ditch moment. Age gap with professor/student forbidden romance. It is short but I think the way it was set up, both MCs were crushing on each other for an entire year, the insta love doesn’t feel insta lovey they just had to act on their attraction and live HEA. The audiobook was fun for me, listening to the sound effects mostly weather related.

Another brilliant romance from Kayla Grosse. I love how Kayla writes fat women being loved so wholly and unapologetically, both personally and romantically. Ryker is so gone for Finley and Finley is just badass.
Victoria Connolly's narration is stellar, as always, and the duet narration was top-tier. The sound effects are so good and it was a fully immersive audio experience. I have never loved an audiobook more!!

Dear Kayla,
Thank you for bringing my spicy Glen Powell fantasies to page. This was every "Twisters" girlies DREAM. More action/adventure than spice which was welcomed and very much entertaining, but don't sleep on the spice that it DID have. That ditch scene was EVERYTHING. Ryker, T-daddy/twister tamer is ZADDY. Salt and pepper, taboo professor-student? YES PLEASE. The way he constantly tries to do right by Finley was so adorable. The inner turmoil over what's right and wrong and what he truly wants, I cannot. Loved it. For sure though my absolute FAVORITE part of this entire book was Joey. Comedic relief but also the voice of reason? I loved him. This cast of characters were so much fun, ingested it in one sitting. The audio was SO GOOD, entertaining and so well performed. I felt like I was sitting down to listen to the newest blockbuster summer breakout. I would have loved to see more from Hawk and Joey but I am praying that Kayla hears our pleas and gives us more from this world. 4/5 stars!

I really enjoyed this and its thrilling storm chasing elements! Finley, a master’s student, and Ryker, her professor, have shared plenty of flirtation and late night office hours but have always kept things professional, until now. When Finley decides to embark on a storm chasing adventure, Ryker insists on going with her to ensure her safety. Their journey takes an unexpected turn, drawing them into each other’s arms and forcing them to confront the consequences of their actions. As they navigate their complicated dynamic, they must decide whether to follow their hearts or stick to the boundaries of their student professor relationship.
This audiobook was so good! The phenomenal narrators and immersive sound effects take the story to another level. Victoria Connolly and Grayson Owens perfectly embody Finley and Ryker, bringing their sweet dynamic to life. Robb Moreira adds so much charm as Joey, making his playful personality shine, I absolutely loved him! This is a must listen for anyone who enjoys a thrilling storm chasing adventure with some added spice.

Highly entertaining, short, sweet and spicy.
Huge thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for an early copy of the Audiobook of Whirlwind by Kayla Grosse.

Whirlwind
by Kayla Grosse
Narrated by Victoria Connolly; Grayson Owens; Robb Moreira
I received an ARC of this audiobook through Netgalley.
Whirlwind was an interesting book, but I wasn’t overly enamored with the main characters. I hope the author will write a sequel about Hawk & Joey because they are a far more likable couple.
There was rough sex in this book, which is fine, but there should have been talk about consent and safe words.
The sex talk was dirty and seemed to be at odds with every other character trait. Instead of being an asset to these characters, it made me like them less.
I enjoyed the science, the meteorology, the school setting, and have no problem with the age difference.
I don’t know, parts were great, parts were a reader turn-off.
This wasn’t really a romance book. It was more of an anti-romance if that’s even a thing.
My overall opinion: Eh, not great. But, seriously I could love a Hawk & Joey book.

3/5 stars
I have thoughts LOL.
First and foremost is this book a full novel or a novella? It is in that weird limbo place where I don't think it's long enough to be a full novel or really detailed enough to be a full novel but it was also WAY too long to be a novella?
Second, because I got the audiobook (and thank you very much) I love me some duet narration but the added sounds fr threw me off and I'll be honest unless it's a full dramatized audiobook I don't think there is much use for the added sounds.
I thought the book was just okay though not really for me, kind of an odd plot but definitely for fans of the movie "Twister"
