For this review I brought in the expert, my 6 year old. Immediately we had 1 question going into the book; do they know cuphead and mughead?
The answer was no, but my son sat with me to read the entire book in 1 sitting because he was desperate to find out. This is a comic style book that consists of multiple “chapters”. Some of them I found a bit redundant, (my son thought this was hilarious) but other parts of the story I was also cracking up.
Is it a highly educational kids book?
No.
Cabinhead tells treehead like 4 times not to eat a painting of a taco because it is not a real taco, and what does he do?
He eats the painting.
However it is a highly entertaining kids book, and earns the 6 year old seal of approval in our house.

I was delighted to see Scott Campell's amazing art in this graphic novel. Every object is turned into a whimsical character "head"
Swimming Pool Head is definitely my favorite, and I really like Library Head too.
The characters are extremely polite to each other, and the positive attitudes each "head" has adds to the gentle otherness of the stories.
Problem solving, sharing, solving mysteries, and just being good friends are all themes in this fabulous graphic novel/comic style book.
I cannot wait for more of these!

Cabin Head and Tree Head is an inventive graphic novel with humor, heart, and even some small lessons. The simple, de saturated yet colorful art contributes well to the premise of there being a different "Head" for pretty much everything. I think kids will enjoy the possibilities of what might be on top of a Head.
The problems for the characters to solve are ones that kids will likely experience, whether overreacting to a haircut because it wasn't what you pictured, or having a hard time saying goodbye to your friends, or trying to find buried treasure in the yard. The plot and pictures are easy to follow and fun to look at, with things going on in the background that make just looking at the pictures interesting.

Unassuming and obscure at first, this little graphic novel quicky turned into a heart-warming, snort-inducing, fabulously meta piece of magic. I am obsessed! Very much in the cozy friendship adventure vein of Frog and Toad, Bear and Bird and Narwhal and Jelly, Cabin Head and Tree Head bring a fresh perspective that is very much left of centre.
Scott C's art is a delight. The warm tones and expressive faces of the little heads are perfectly matched with their earnest personalities and relatably big feelings. The layout is clear, font is easy to read and the language is a nice mix of simple with a sprinkling of specific terms and tier two vocab words. It's well pitched for the target demographic of newly independent readers, and will undoubtedly be enjoyed by their grownups too.
What a joy! I can't wait for more stories from the world of the Heads!

Pros: The layout of the book is very attractive, and I found the colors and art appealing, as well. The stories were on par with a lot of the other early graphic novels out there.
Cons: I did not care for the characters or world buildilng and I have serious doubts that kids will, either.

This was so fun and quirky. A great option for people who prefer graphic novel style writing. The illustrations were brilliant. My son loved it.

This book is delightfully strange. From the first time I saw an image from it, I knew I wanted it for our library. It will not be for everyone, but for some readers, this will be perfect! I’ve preordered it for the library and might by a copy for myself as well.

Netgalley ARC - 4.5 stars! This is a little kooky but funny once you get into it. I like the characters and wholesome vibes and I think kids will also like it. I don't like how vague it is about how the building heads work because like... cabinhead and treehead are inside a library or a hospital after we meet libraryhead and hospitalhead. Do they climb in their mouth? Nitpick aside this is fun.

Love the art style! This is a really sweet, quirky, and fun graphic novel that would be great for earlier readers. The language and stories are fairly simple; even so, they're engaging and goofy, and just the right kind of weird humor that kids love. This is a super fun world, and I definitely want to read more from it.

"Cabin Head and Tree Head" is a bizarre yet hilarious middle grade graphic novel by Scott Campbell. It follows Cabin Head (a being with a cabin on their head) and Tree Head (a being with a tree on their head) as they go about their lives in a land where everyone has something on their head (library, trash can, outhouse, etc.) including people. The silly adventures will appeal to young readers looking for funny friends. A recommended purchase for graphic novel collections.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in return for a honest review. Cabin Head and Tree Head is a wonderful comic style story collection. The illustrations have so much to look at, and the stories were really fun to read. I love the premise of all the different heads, and the different ways all the characters look and act. Overall a really great kids book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Scott Campbell for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This is both the dumbest and the coolest concept. The illustrations and entire concept of this book are so unique! I loved looking at all the different types of heads, and Cabin Head and Tree Head played off of each other so well. My only qualm was the humor wasn’t always hitting, BUT this is a children’s book. I compare this humor to Captain Underpants and can see similar types of kids enjoying both! I would like to hang with all the Heads again!

This book is pure genius - a world where everyone has something quirky on their head that becomes part of their identity e.g POOL-HEAD, VOLCANO-HEAD. Who would have thought that Cabin Head and Tree Head would become my new favorite dynamic duo?
The adventures these characters embark on had me genuinely laughing out loud! I found myself eagerly turning pages to see what ridiculous situation they'd find themselves in next.
And those illustrations? Absolutely WONDERFUL! They capture the whimsical nature of this universe perfectly, bringing these oddball characters to vibrant life.
Don't be fooled into thinking this is just for kids. As an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment spent in this weird and wonderful world. The storylines are surprisingly unique and refreshing in today's book market.
If you're looking for something creative, utterly original, and guaranteed to bring some joy to your day, you absolutely need this book in your life. My cheeks still hurt from smiling so much!

Cabin Head and Tree Head is a collection of graphic short stories perfect for younger elementary students. It is a great way to introduce kiddos to reading graphic novels, as that is a skill that I believe should be taught. They are silly and would work really well for kids that are ready for transitional chapter books like late 1st, all of 2nd, and the beginning of 3rd grade.
The writing is clever, the illustrations draw in the reader. I am excited to add this title and future titles in this series to my collection.
Thank you to Net Galley and Tundra Books Group for the DRC. All opinions are my own.

This book is delightfully delightful. The concept of "heads" being in their own world, but still performing as their things is genius! Cabin Head and Tree Head interact with each other and their world, using the Library Head, the Brick Wall Head and more!

There was a lot of uniqueness to this book not the least of which was the idea that there are all these characters walking around with the things we use and consider commonplace on their heads. And the way they were illustrated worked well for the whimsical nature of the story. What I found challenging was pinpointing who the target audience would be of this book. I think that the story and illustration is more geared towards a younger audience for something like read along or bedtime story time, but the format of a graphic novel and the way that the story unfolds in dialogue is more for someone who is reading on their own. But at that age, I think that this story would be, well, less appealing and too young for them.
So, overall it's a lovely concept and a great idea. Just not sure that it resonates with a young child either for the format or the subject matter. Which is very much a shame.
I would have given it 4 stars if it had been better aligned for either age group. I had to give it 3 though because it really doesn't have a true audience fit in my view.

ARC Copy...I just had to read this ARC when I saw it was those funky buddy heads from the Flight anthology. Just as delighted by this graphic novel adapt like their comic in flight...hilarious, whimsy, and love to see all the different "heads" in their world.

This was a super cute book. A real Frog and Toad for vibe for a new generation. My daughter enjoyed it and said she would recommend it to friends. I liked the art style of the illustrations. I think the graphic novel style would appeal to all readers but especially struggling ones. It’s good to see books like this being accessible for children.

These characters are super quirky. In this kids graphic novel, friends Cabin Head and Tree Head go about daily adventures from saying hello to their friends, to painting, playing hide and seek, and more. A bit silly, but relatable.
