Such a good read! I could not put it down! Callie is running from what her parents want, Tanner is trying to prove that he is better than his past! Can these 2 find love and realize their dreams are the same? I adored all of the characters! Addie though, has my heart!

Callie heads to small town Kentucky to see the house and property left by her uncle. After catching her cheating fiancé it seemed like a good time. Meeting the neighbors and making new friends and finding love helps. Good story and kept my interest throughout. Would highly recommend this book and author.

4.5 stars. This was a great read. I enjoyed every moment of Callie & Tanner’s story. You would not think they would be a great match but after moving into her Uncle Reggie’s house and spending time in Hoker, you can see how she blossoms into her own person and really fits in there. And Tanner may not have thought she was in it for the long haul, but she surprises him and the more they are together the stronger their feelings for each other become. Great story, and wonderful lovable characters make this another winner by Lori Foster. And who doesn’t love a story with an awesome dog like Blu in it?

Just when I think the last book Lori wrote is my favorite, she does it again! It's safe to say that all her books are my favorites! I fell in love with Callie and Tanner and Blu (woof woof). Add in the great support team they have of Kam, Addie, Liam and Nell. Great character development with some mystery thrown in. I enjoyed how Callie found herself and her strength. She kept moving forward after calling off her engagement and wedding to Sutter. Tanner becomes her champion even though he tried to deny it and stay away from her. They each had different upbringings but were more similar than they realized. Tanner is a true hero (the tree) and Blu is a wonderful protector. Addie is the mother they all need. I'm really glad to see some changes in a few other characters by the end of the book which left me warm and fuzzy. You don't want to miss this one!

I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest and unsolicited opinion.

To me, this is a story about two very different people...who are more alike than they think. Callie McCallahan and Tanner Patrick have very different backgrounds and upbringing but at heart? They are sweet and kind and caring and so down to earth. Just don’t tell Tanner I think he’s sweet.

What a great cast of characters surrounding these two! I especially adore Blu, the dog, as he is the most loyal pup. He takes his duties as protector seriously and takes to Callie from the start – let alone being Tanner’s wingman. Addie and Kam, Tanner’s “family”, are fiercely loyal, first to “their people” and then to both Tanner and Callie. I truly wish I lived in Hoker.

Long buildup to these two finally understanding one another – it takes time to build trust. But they are perfect together. Perfectly messy, perfectly vulnerable, perfectly perfect! Loved Callie and Tanner!

Protective, alpha male with more than a mile wide streak of kindness. That's Tanner.
Curvy (not stick thin) sheltered female with a strong sense of loyalty to her cousin, lover of (most, just not reptiles) animals and brave female. That's Callie.

Together, they are explosive.

From the humorous first scene till the last chapter, the reader will be delighted by this read. The reader will be treated to a beloved rescue dog, and a mystery that will culminate in an action packed final scene.

Vibes in this book were similar (but in no way a duplicate) of ' the author's prior series, "MacKenzie's of Ridge Trail" and "The Road to Love".

This is the sweetest romance book I've ever read. It's a quick read great for a weekend with some coffee or hot chocolate while curled up on the couch.

The characters are wonderful, especially the animals, and the storyline is sweet. After ending a relationship in the best way, Callie decides to start a new one in the best way possible. It helps that Tanner is so hot! His family is amazing, while her is not so much right now.

I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did.

A Comforting Read with Love and Community

Lori Foster delivers a classic small-town romance with Let Me Be the One, bringing together two characters at different crossroads in life. Callie McCallahan returns to her childhood town after inheriting her uncle’s farm, seeing it as an opportunity to reset her life and career. Tanner Patrick, once the overlooked kid from the wrong side of town, is now a rugged and reserved tree farmer. Though content with the life he’s built, he finds himself drawn to Callie despite his better judgment. As Callie navigates farm life, Tanner wrestles with long-buried feelings he’s harbored since high school.

The book has a lot of the charm you’d expect from a small-town romance—cozy settings, tight-knit communities, and heartfelt moments. I really enjoyed Callie’s independent spirit and how she was willing to take on challenges despite being out of her element. The chemistry between Callie and Tanner was engaging at times, and I appreciated the slower build of their relationship.

That said, while the story had plenty of warmth, it also leaned heavily into familiar small-town romance tropes without adding much new. Some plot points felt repetitive, like the frequent interruptions at Callie’s door and Tanner’s inner struggle over his feelings. The dialogue between characters often had a similar tone, which made them blend together at times. Additionally, the shift in dynamics between certain side characters—particularly Dirk, Lang, and Tanner—felt abrupt and a little too convenient for the sake of resolving conflict.

One of my biggest questions was how Callie, despite being from the “rich side of town,” had seemingly never heard any of the small-town gossip about Tanner growing up. It felt a little off, especially since characters acknowledge how small the town is—like when Nell casually confirms that, yes, everyone knows everyone. This detail made some of Callie’s surprises about Tanner’s past feel less believable.

Despite these critiques, Let Me Be the One is still an easy and comforting read for fans of the genre. If you enjoy slow-burn romance, small-town settings, and stories about second chances, this book delivers exactly that. While it doesn’t break new ground, it offers a familiar love story that’s perfect for readers looking for an escape to a small town.

Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing, and Lori Foster for providing me with an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review.

Book Review: Let Me Be the One by Lori Foster

In Let Me Be the One, Lori Foster introduces Callie McCallahan, who returns to her hometown after inheriting her uncle’s farm. With no farming experience but armed with social media savvy, she aims to start anew. Her neighbor, Tanner Patrick, once had a crush on her, and as they reconnect, sparks fly. While the plot is somewhat predictable, the charming characters and cozy small-town setting make it an enjoyable read for romance fans.

I am in love with Callie and Tanner!! Their story had everything I didn’t even realize I was in the mood for! An inherited home, rascally farm animals, zany neighbors, one highly annoying ex, new-wonderfully-found family, and fantastically flirtatious, combustible chemistry!! I mean, what’s not to love? I devoured this book in one sitting it was that good!

I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book from the author and Harlequin Trade Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I absolutely love Callie and Tanner! The first time they interacted had me hooked and I couldn't wait to see how their relationship would progress throughout the book. Blu is the most awesome dog that you can't help but love immediately. I was sucked in from the beginning and it held me until the last page! I can't wait to see what will be next!

Callie McCahallan has walked away from her cheating fiancé, as well as the expectations of her family. They are affluent, and if Callie marries into the other family, their wealth and affluence will continue to thrive.

Although still stinging from the hurt she experienced, one thing is clear. She was definitely not in love, so she is not nursing a broken heart. Inheriting her uncle’s farm and all of the duties that come with it should prove to be a nice distraction while she redirects her life.

Tanner Patrick fantasized about Callie most of the years they were in school. However, she was completely unaware of him then and tries to act as if she is unaffected by him now. Even if there’s a frisson of attraction towards Tanner, Callie is frustrated by the fact that he constantly makes it clear that he wants her gone. However, Callie digs her feet in, gets her hand dirty, and starts to see life in a new vein.

As high school students, Callie and Tanner never had the opportunity to meet. Tanner was enamored with Callie and developed romantic feelings for her, but she remained oblivious to his presence. Despite not having come from Callie’s affluent background, Tanner has cultivated a profound sense of love and kindness that has transformed him into an extraordinary individual. With the support of his family and his growing affection for Callie, the narrative of this exceptional novel unfolds into a sensual, heartwarming and poignant love story. Moreover, Addie—a character who embodies the essence of compassion and understanding—is a testament to the transformative power of love and family.

Many thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
