I love when a book would start out with a high - this was so much fun to get into - with Drew and his buddies filming Drew on a motorcycle going down Route 951 - at night. The creepiness and eeriness was so well done to draw me in for the rest of the book.
I absolutely enjoyed this thrilling book, except just a few quips that I was happy to overlook. Loved the female friendship, the emotional counterparts, the deeper dive into overcoming childhood trauma. The four girls were a bit confusing at the beginning, I often struggle with that when so many characters are introduced, but eventually I was able to distinguish them. The book did dip in keeping my interest just a bit, but went back on the adrenaline high and rode that to the end. When the tunnel came around, the story kicked into high gear so so well. This was so much fun and the audio narration was superb.
Thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for a copy of this audiobook. All opinions are my own.

I had fun listening to the audio book. I also enjoyed all the characters that were within this book. The main character was Livia.
Livia and her friends take a shortcut on a weekend getaway, and things get a little crazy. This road is not like any other road it's a haunted road. The locals call this road " The Devil's Driveway." It's only 15 miles long with danger at every turn. Will they ever make it to the end?
This had action, adventure, drama, and suspense throughout. There are a few giggles within. The audio book narrative that tells the story did a good job.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest, unbiased opinion.

What I Liked:
1. Writing style was okay
What I Didn't Like:
1. Confusing things happen
2. Didn't care about the characters
Final Thoughts:
This book started out pretty interesting and I was interested what was happening but after like the 5th car accident I started to wean on my excitement of this book. There were action scenes of things happening that really weren't that interesting to me. Some parts even came off as confusing. I didn't find the characters for a likable. I didn't understand the whole going back and forth between the childhood at the junkyard tow truck place. I didn't understand what's happening because I guess I just didn't care about what was happening. The characters were so one-toned you could have replaced four women with one woman and it would have felt the same.
I ended up dnfing this book at page 162 because it just didn't feel like it was going to get any better. I had already lost my interest in it and nothing was happening other than her talking about her dead dog somehow reappearing, which under normal circumstances might be an interesting development but in this book just came off confusing and ridiculous.
There were certain parts in this book where I thought were fascinating such as she grew up with a father who was a cannibal. But when we got those flashbacks they were so small that we ended up just talking about her sneaking out and her dog. Let's flush out her father some more and understand what's going on with that. The author would do this to us. They would give us this gripping thing that happen and egg us on with that information but then pull it away to tell us about something else that was not relevant to what we wanted to hear - something far more boring. In instances like this it would remind me of like a PG-13 horror movie that all the bloody scenes would happen off of frame we were just supposed to use her imagination to know what transpired. It frustrated me because we're in a book you can write about anything at this point don't hide away from the good gross things.

Thanks to Netgalley and Tor Nightfire for this advanced copy of the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

White Line Fever opens with a truly eerie, atmospheric scene—a long, dark, seemingly endless highway imbued with ghostly legends and haunted by mysterious apparitions. This "Devil’s Driveway" sets the tone for a narrative that deftly blurs the line between supernatural horror and raw psychological drama.
Right from the start, the author’s skill in building tension is evident. The haunted highway is more than just a setting; it’s a metaphor for the journey through one's darkest memories and hidden fears. The novel uses the ominous landscape as a symbolic crossroads where the characters must confront their inner demons. This motif of the haunted road reflects the broader theme of overcoming trauma—a central thread that binds the narrative.
At the heart of the story is Livia, whose personal road trip turns into a literal and figurative journey toward confronting her painful past. Caught between the oppressive influences of a vile husband and a tyrannical father, Livia finds herself drawn back to the very place that symbolizes her deepest fears. Her struggle—and that of her companions—echoes the universal battle of reclaiming one’s power in the face of overwhelming adversity. Each character’s haunted past is not merely a backdrop but an active force that shapes their paths and decisions throughout the story.
The blend of supernatural elements with real human trauma gives White Line Fever a unique narrative texture. While the eerie, ghostly encounters provide spine-chilling moments, it is the intimate portrayal of the characters’ vulnerabilities and their journey towards self-empowerment that leaves a lasting impact. The narrative avoids relying solely on shock value, instead inviting readers to explore the intricate relationship between fear and resilience.
In White Line Fever, the interplay between a chilling setting and deeply personal stories results in a narrative that is as haunting as it is uplifting. The novel challenges readers to consider the ways in which our pasts continue to shape our present, and how confronting these inner demons is a critical step towards healing and reclaiming our lives. Whether you’re drawn to the supernatural or the deeply human struggle against trauma, this book offers a compelling and thought-provoking read.

🚘 My thoughts:
Um… so good! This was a fever dream. I had such a good time with this story. I definitely switched back and forth between physical book and audiobook because I just needed to know what was happening until it was over. I felt claustrophobic yet I couldn’t get enough. I honestly cannot think of another book that was quite like this one. This felt unique and frightening in the best of ways. The narrator did a phenomenal job with this story and switching between the two versions was seamless. This was haunting and crept underneath my skin in ways I wasn’t expecting. I highly recommend giving this book a read/listen because I’ll be keeping this one on my shelves. White Line Fever is out now!
Happy reading 📖 🎧🛣️🚘

A fun spooky jaunt very reminiscent of The Return meets Supernatural but with a demonic Cryptid-esque twist. Had a blast while going on this rides with our leading gal pals. the time jumps were a little muddy for me but, Ill chock that up to being due to my audiobook experience and not the novel itself. Overall, 5/5 stars.

White Line Fever surprised me—in a mostly good way. The narration and pacing were strong, and the blend of real-world mystery with supernatural elements was compelling. It kept me engaged throughout, and the connective themes carried the story well, even when some of the timeline details felt underdeveloped.
One issue I had was with the way time was handled. An accident described at the beginning plays a key role later, but the book doesn’t clearly explain how much time has passed between events. This made some of the character connections feel confusing—not because they were meant to be mysterious, but because the timeline itself wasn’t clear. It seemed more like a plotting oversight than an intentional choice.
That said, the book offers a powerful look at how trauma sticks to you—especially childhood trauma rooted in your own home. That theme is woven throughout in a way that feels raw and honest, and it helped ground the supernatural elements in something very real.
While I didn’t realize going in that KC Jones leans more into horror (a genre I don’t usually gravitate toward), this book struck a balance that worked for me. The supernatural aspects weren’t hinted at much in the description, but they become explicit pretty quickly.
Overall, White Line Fever was a solid read. I’m not sure I’ll dive into the author’s other, more horror-forward work, but this book stood out on its own.

Every town has its own urban legend, the one horror story that fills childhood nightmares. County Road 951 is that urban legend; fatal wrecks and the demise of many ill-fated adventurers plague that stretch of road. The locals call the stretch of road The Devil's Highway.
Livia was living what she thought was the American Dream, she was a stay-at-home wife but all of that came crashing down when she found a used condom wrapper in her husband's pocket while she was doing laundry. When he came home she tried to confront him but she left in her car and had an accident and since then He has moved out giving her time to "think". Livia and three of her best friends decide to go on a weekend getaway however, they unknowingly take The Devil's Highway as a shortcut. A Shortcut that will give them the drive from Hell.
The story jumps around between the current time and about twenty years ago, but Livia did not have the greatest home life and her father was a terribly abusive, manipulative man. She endured a lot of abusive traumatizing events, when she left with her husband to escape her father she ran into the arms of another narcissistic man.
I received the audio book to listen and review this one and it was insane and I was on the edge of my seat with my night line on! I loved it! The narrator instilled the suspenseful horror and the way the narrator told the story had the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! If you like a good spooky paranormal story then this should be your next read!!!
Thank you Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for the extraordinary opportunity to listen and review this one!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first pressed play on this audiobook, but I can honestly say, it kept me hooked from the very beginning. The story follows a couple on a getaway trip, but it’s no ordinary vacation. They decide to take a remote road, one that’s known for its haunting reputation, and as expected, things quickly spiral out of control.
The narrator did an amazing job bringing the tension to life, capturing the sense of dread that builds with every twist and turn of the story. The sound effects and pacing were spot-on, amplifying the moments of suspense and making it feel like I was right there with them, caught in the middle of the madness.
What I loved most about this audiobook was the atmosphere. It had that perfect eerie vibe that made it feel like a great pick for October reads. The narrative is unpredictable and filled with surprises, keeping me at the edge of my seat. The tragedy that unfolds is intense, and the way the couple’s plans disintegrate as the road takes them further into chaos was incredibly well-executed.
This is a must-listen if you love a psychological thriller with a dash of horror and plenty of dark twists. It’s a perfect audiobook to get lost in while driving through the fall night or curling up with a blanket during those chilly evenings. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for an audiobook that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat!

This was audiobook perfection. I was so scared the entire time I was reading this book. It was purely terror. I loved the relationship between the girls, the setting, the description of the junk yard and all the childhood trauma, I also l0ved the thing with the dogs.
It was just the best. The absolute best.
The narration was wonderful too!

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for this arc audio. I really enjoyed this and the story line. It was very good and super addicting.

I didn't know what to expect from this book even until the very end. Was this all about what fear can do to you? Was this all in their heads? What was real??? These are just some of the many questions this book will have you asking throughout its entirety.
A haunted highway, haunted pasts, can they become one in the same?
Interesting concept with relatable characters. I felt the creep factor of the story from the beginning. I could not put the book down because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

For anyone who reads my reviews you know I don't read most of the synopsis of books before I dive right in- I wish I would have with this one.
The only reason I say that is because I don't really do paranormal/mythical kind of stuff, but I am going to rate it fairly and equitably.
There are trigger warnings that need to be added/addressed before I begin. If child abuse/parent child neglect bothers you, you may want to stray away from this one.
White Line Fever starts off a little slow and honestly I wasn't quite sure where things were going for a little bit. It wasn't until about 30% in that I felt like I had an understanding of what was actually going on and where the book was headed. And then I got into it a little more. And it is a walk through the lives of these women as they try to make it to the other side of this psychotic forest to find their spa weekend.
I can understand why people struggled with this book, but I enjoyed the ride when I finally figured out the destination and the passengers with me.
This book is for you if:
✔ you love books about friendship
✔ you love paranormal
✔ you don't mind being a little lost at the beginning/enjoying the ride
✔ trigger warnings don't apply
❌ you need a straightforward story
❌ clear cut mystery is necessary
❌ can't handle anything ambiguous.
So if you're looking for something a little different, this is for you. This was 3.5 stars for me rounded up to 4.

This book was just not for me. It may have been the writing style or just the theme of the book. I was interested at first but eventually I sort of lost interest and sometimes had a hard time following what was going on. I was close to a DNF but it did interest me enough to listen to the end to try and find answers. It just sort of fell flat for me. This was just not a book that was up my alley.

You know what, this was a pretty good horror novel imo. It's full of tension, cliffhangers (sometimes literally!), and monsters — human and otherwise. I relished every high-stakes moment where I knew for sure the next chapter would switch from the present timeline to the past or vice versa. I liked the parallel journeys our main characters went through to heal and confront their childhood traumas throughout the novel. The paranormal horror was often less horrific than the characters' real experiences — I imagine intentionally so. Try this audiobook next time you have a road trip to soundtrack!

KC Jones delivers a chilling and mind-bending horror thriller with White Line Fever, a novel that grips readers from the first page and doesn’t let go. Set along a desolate county road, the story takes on an eerie, almost supernatural quality as those who travel its path begin experiencing terrifying hallucinations—visions of their deepest fears brought disturbingly to life.
From the moment the characters embark on their journey, the tension is relentless. Jones masterfully builds an atmosphere of dread, making the 15-mile stretch of road feel like an endless descent into madness. The novel reads like a psychological horror film, with reality twisting and shifting in unpredictable ways. The uncertainty of what is real versus illusion keeps the characters—and readers—on edge, turning every mile into a test of endurance.
The pacing is tight, the stakes are high, and the sense of unease lingers long after the final page. Jones crafts a uniquely unsettling experience, blending psychological horror with a creeping sense of cosmic dread. Fans of The Twilight Zone or Stephen King’s more mind-warping tales will find White Line Fever a thrilling, unforgettable ride.
Verdict: A nightmarish, pulse-pounding journey into fear and paranoia—KC Jones delivers an unrelenting horror experience that will keep readers up at night. Highly recommended for fans of surreal, psychological horror.

Well, what can I say?
A few years ago I read this author's previous book and I was not impressed by it, but because I usually am prone to giving authors a 'second chance' I requested Jones' new novel to see how it'd work with me. Sadly, again, this one also didn't work for me.
I liked the idea and the premise of the plot, but the execution failed to hold my attention.
I didn't care for the characters, the sci-fi elements were too weird for my taste, and the story dragged on and on and on. This book is, in my opinion, way too long for the story that it is.
The horror aspect of it didn't amuse or entertain me, either.
The audiobook narrator is a very decent one, so that's a good thing.
I'm not sure to whom I should recommend this book. Probably to readers who are into horror with sci-fi elements to it or to readers who have read a book by this author before abd truly enjoyed it.
Thank you, NetGalley and Macmillan Audio, for allowing me to listen to a free audio copy of this novel.

3.5 stars. Much longer than it needed to be. This is the story of the Girls Trip from Hell. Or maybe to Hell? Since the ladies have to travel down the Devil's Driveway in order to get to their destination of a relaxation spa. They take this road as a shortcut and come to the very limits of their sanity. Something terrifying has been haunting Rt 951 for a long time. It will take all their strength and willpower to fight the demons on this road.
*Special thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this digital audio e-arc.*

🎧 Book Review 🎧 Hell hath no fury like a scorned woman…and a haunted road. Trauma breeds its own kind of horrors that are indescribable; pair that with a dark and windy road with its own curse and readers are in for one dark and twisty ride. K.C. Jones writes a beautiful story, intertwining the complex human emotions of generational trauma and the lore of urban legends. The Devil’s Driveway may be a shortcut to the destination, but the journey is one of true horror that leaves everyone questioning what they are experiencing. White Line Fever builds at a perfect arc, narrated brilliantly by Kate Handford…I dare you to read this one alone in the car at night!

This was a SICK book!
Imagine your worst nightmare... then multiply that by about 100... that's this book!
Livia is having a hard time with her husband. She needs a break from reality, if just for a short time. Her BFF's decide to whisk her away for a quick weekend getaway.
As they leave, they see a shortcut on the GPS, and decide to take it... Not a wise decision... But, it is only 15 miles long....
(Hint... Don't EVER take the shortcuts in a horror book... !!!) 😮😵😮😵
As they are driving along, very strange things start to happen... but, EACH of them experiences a different account!!! It's hard to describe, but if you do read this, you will understand....
In any case, they end up basically just trying to stay ALIVE!!!
It kept me on the edge of my seat for the last several hours of the book!! 🫢😮
#WhiteLineFever by #KCJones and narrated nicely by #KateHandford.
4 1/2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 for me, rounded up to 5!
Thanks so much to #NetGalley and #MacmillanAudio for an ARC of the audiobook, in exchange for an honest review.
