🎧 Book Review 🎧 Hell hath no fury like a scorned woman…and a haunted road. Trauma breeds its own kind of horrors that are indescribable; pair that with a dark and windy road with its own curse and readers are in for one dark and twisty ride. K.C. Jones writes a beautiful story, intertwining the complex human emotions of generational trauma and the lore of urban legends. The Devil’s Driveway may be a shortcut to the destination, but the journey is one of true horror that leaves everyone questioning what they are experiencing. White Line Fever builds at a perfect arc, narrated brilliantly by Kate Handford…I dare you to read this one alone in the car at night!

This was a SICK book!

Imagine your worst nightmare... then multiply that by about 100... that's this book!

Livia is having a hard time with her husband. She needs a break from reality, if just for a short time. Her BFF's decide to whisk her away for a quick weekend getaway.
As they leave, they see a shortcut on the GPS, and decide to take it... Not a wise decision... But, it is only 15 miles long....
(Hint... Don't EVER take the shortcuts in a horror book... !!!) 😮😵😮😵

As they are driving along, very strange things start to happen... but, EACH of them experiences a different account!!! It's hard to describe, but if you do read this, you will understand....

In any case, they end up basically just trying to stay ALIVE!!!

It kept me on the edge of my seat for the last several hours of the book!! 🫢😮

#WhiteLineFever by #KCJones and narrated nicely by #KateHandford.

4 1/2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 for me, rounded up to 5!

Thanks so much to #NetGalley and #MacmillanAudio for an ARC of the audiobook, in exchange for an honest review.

White Line Fever was a decent read, but it didn’t fully grab my attention. While the suspense kept me turning pages, I found some parts confusing and a bit disjointed, which made it hard to stay engaged. The story had its moments, but overall, it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me. If you enjoy suspenseful books and don’t mind a bit of a challenge in following the narrative, it might be worth a read.

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

This was an interesting story with a supernatural touch. It kept my attention and I was curious to see how this would play out. County Road 951 AKA the devil’s driveway, is one stretch of road you definitely want to skip driving on. After discovering some devastating news, Olivia and her childhood friends take a quick getaway to relax and decompress. They discover a short cut, and despite the signs that pretty much stated to stay away, they see how much time it will save them and decide to take a chance anyway. Very odd and strange occurrences begging to take place on the stretch that’s called “The Nighmare Mile.” There is also a group of young adults investigating the occurrences, and when these 2 groups collide, they try to determine exactly what is going on. Overall a decent read for those who are horror and supernatural fans. The narration was great in this audibook!

Thank you Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for this advanced listening copy. All opinions are my own.

I generally enjoy books with dual timelines and a good mystery or thriller element, but this one just didn’t do it for me. It simultaneously felt overstuffed and underdeveloped. The story follows a group of friends, each with traumatic upbringings, as adults on a remote, closed-off road on their way to a getaway. While the inclusion of paranormal elements was a bit of a turn-off for me personally and having a hard time picturing descriptions of scenes, I pushed through. It just wasn’t my jam.

This creepy, mind-bending tale of horror forces the main character Livia and her friends to confront a mysterious and terrifyingly haunted stretch of highway and their real-life demons. I found myself invested from the first chapter and glued to the page as the suspenseful and scary story unfolded. Kate Handford did an amazing job narrating the audiobook. I highly recommend this book for fans of psychological horror.

I had such high hopes for this book; however, it just fell flat for me. The synopsis really grabbed my attention, but unfortunately, as I listened to this audiobook, I just felt like the execution of the story was just ok. To be honest, I think that any suspense there was, that it was increased with the narration which was great. However, the writing was not as suspenseful as I would expect from a book that is billed as a horror novel. I gave the audiobook 3 stars. If I had read this one as a physical book, it probably would have been a DNF.

4.75/5 stars

I Stay up until 2 AM listening to this audiobook while doing homework, and I was spooked! I don't scare easily when it comes to horror or thrillers, but this book had me constantly looking over my shoulder- it genuinely felt like someone was watching me. The eerie atmosphere, the unsetting tension, and the way the story slowly crept under my skin made it one of the scariest books I've read in a while.

The plot was gripping from the start, with a slow-building dread that kept me hooked. The writing created such vivid, eerie imagery that I could see everything playing out in my head like a horror movie.

There were moments when I had to pause just to take a breath because the suspense was that intense.

And the narration? phenomenal. The narrator didn't just read the story- they performed it. The voice acting, the pacing and the way they delivered every chilling moment made it feel even more immersive. I honestly think listening to this in audiobook format made it even scarier than if I had read it physically.

If you love horror that gets under your skin, keep an eye out for this one!

Release date: 3/17

Highly recommend the audiobook version!

CR951 in central Oregon has been deemed by the locals as the Devil's Driveway. Livia is embarking on a much needed getaway weekend. What started asca nice pleasant drive turns into a horrific race against all the ghosts of their pasts and those wretched souls trapped along the Devil's Driveway. A pulse pounding thrill ride, spooky and atmospheric horror at its best.

The narrator Kate Handford was great, multiple characters with superb ease.

4 stars

This was a DNF for me. I gave it multiple tries and just could not get into it. I was confused by the timeline as well.

I tried really hard to keep an open mind while listening to this audiobook, but the story failed to keep me engaged. I found my mind wandering on some parts and having to start back at the beginning of the chapter to stay on track. I loved the idea for this book, the characters, etc, just disappointed on the execution. Thank you Tor Publishing and NetGalley for the ALC.

White Line Fever by KC Jones’s multi-character non-linear timeline failed to capture my interest. Because the supernatural entity, The Harrower, feeds on the things that haunt people ; the story focuses on a lot of negative, scary and sometimes traumatic events in the characters pasts. For me, it was an unfortunately unpleasant and unsettling listening experience. I had no issues with the narrator, Kate Handford. At 50% in, I changed my listening speed to 2x in order to finish the audiobook faster. ALC was provided by Macmillan Audio via NetGalley. I received an advance listening copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

White Line Fever by KC Jones is a heart-pounding, nerve-wracking thriller that takes friendship, trauma, and terror to their absolute limits. When Livia and her three lifelong friends decide to take a shortcut through the notorious County Road 951—known locally as The Devil’s Driveway—what begins as an innocent joyride quickly spirals into a nightmare that tests not only their endurance but also their bond.

Set in the isolated Cascade foothills of Central Oregon, the road is infamous for its history of deadly accidents, and the women quickly discover that the rumors about The Devil's Driveway are terrifyingly true. As danger looms around every curve, their friendship is pushed to the brink, and they must fight not only for their survival but for their sanity as they race against time and an unimaginable horror.

Jones skillfully builds tension, transforming what starts as a simple road trip into a relentless ride of fear and psychological suspense. The writing is raw and visceral, pulling readers into the emotional and physical turmoil of the characters. With each twist and turn, the stakes grow higher, making this more than just a chase story—it’s a deep dive into trauma, trust, and the dark forces that can upend even the closest relationships.

White Line Fever is a gripping ride, perfect for fans of thrillers that combine psychological terror with heart-stopping action. Jones expertly navigates the complexities of friendship while weaving an intense, relentless narrative that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page.

I received a gifted ARC of WHITE LINE FEVER by K.C. Jones from Tor Nightfire and a gifted audiobook from Macmillan Audio.

WHITE LINE FEVER begins with a young man filming his misadventure on a stretch of road known as The Devil’s Driveway, a two-lane portion of County Road 951. It starts as an internet stunt, but takes a quick and disturbing deadly turn.

The rest of the book follows Livia and a group of friends. In the wake of Livia’s breakup, they decide a weekend getaway is in order. When a runin with a creepy truck driver leaves them rattled, they decide to take a detour down the Driveway. The trip soon turns confusing and horrific as the timelines of past and present waver and each is unsure if they will make it out alive.

I started this book on my way to vacation and this was both good and bad. When I left from my house at 5am, I was dismayed to learn that all of the roads heading the direction I needed to go were closed for construction on the rail lines. Listening to a book about a man being terrorized while driving down a strange road probably wasn’t the best when my tired brain was trying to reroute myself. Thankfully, I found my way to a fantastic vacation and the book kept my attention hooked even as I was very tired throughout my travels!

This book is a bit of a fever dream (as the title may let you know) and I enjoyed the way it played with the past. I love stories about friendship and this one centers four very close friends in precarious situations, with the past timeline showing how they’ve been close all the way from childhood through some very trying circumstances. The way the past influences the present horrors was really well done.

This is a slower burn book than the previous novel I read by K.C. Jones, but I think the character development and the larger cast did benefit from that. As I got more tired, I did find myself relying on the audio even more to finish, but I overall enjoyed this book!

Thank you to NetGalley, KC Jones, and MacMillion Audio for the audiobook. A great narration by Kate Handford. This was a wild, mind-bending tale that kept me questioning everything! The supernatural forces and deep-rooted ties from the past had an eerie grip on both the road and its travelers, leaving me completely captivated. A thrilling and unforgettable story and captivating to listen to!

Wow, this was something... It's definitely different than my normal read which is kind of what I was going for but at times I wondered why I was still listening to it. It's very creepy and gruesome at parts. Definitely more horror than thriller. But it was still entertaining enough that I found myself continuing. Some of it was just so far fetched that I had to just kind of chuckle and be along for the WILD ride. It's definitely not a very believable book but it had kept me hooked enough that I didn't dnf it tho I definitely had times where I debated it. I was also creeped out quite a bit I felt like I needed some conclusions! Overall, if you like more horror, creepy, totally wild and unavailable stories this is an entertaining one. The audio was well done.

looking back, i probably should have dnfd since books usually take me a day to read and this took forever. so much happened, yet absolutely nothing happened. one of the most disjointed books I've ever read.

I am having a difficult time immersing myself into the story. I’m about half way through and it just seems very juvenile how the “friends” treat one another….

Thanks so much to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC audiobook.
It was good. It kept me listening but it was not scary at all. Eerie maybe both no horror.
The narration was really good.

🚗 are craving a little road trip horror story
🥱 don't mind if the book is a little too long
👥 can handle when none of the characters are particularly likable

» SYNOPSIS «
Four friends set off on a road trip, trying to cure a broken heart and escape their daily lives. Taking a shortcut along the obscure Route 951, they have a few ghostly experiences that blur the lines between reality and hallucination. The road seems to be taunting them, even?—resurfacing old hurts and causing strife for the sake of it. Can they survive this with their friendship, not to mention their lives, intact?

» REVIEW «
A haunted road trip? Featuring psychological horror and messed up friendships? Oh man, I was so in at the start of this story. Sadly, the execution of all this juicy premise left a lot to be desired, for me at least. MAN these characters—I swear there were only three friends at any given time, despite being repeatedly reminded that there were four, because they were woefully flat and underdeveloped, And normally this is okay, for thriller and horror, for me? But the focus was supposed to be on their strong bond being broken, so I just needed to care and I didn't.

I also think this was about 200 pages too long for my taste. I would maybe have loved it as a novella! The "mean dad" component...ugh. Just, many of the directions this story took were not for me. At the end of it, I felt more perplexed and annoyed than terrified. But! Maybe you'll have a better go of it...
