This is a sweet story about young love. The characters were incredibly relatable and it made want to keep turning the pages. I think it's a great example of the butterflies you get when you have a crush on someone, and I loved the fact that the cast of characters were diverse. I can't wait to read the next volume!

Before I begin, I would like to thank Moosopp for allowing me to read a Net Galley copy of Daybreak Volume One, which will be available on July 1st, 2025.

Marcus has a crush on Cog, and Cog has no idea what kind of shenanigans are gonna happen. They’re from different friend groups and start spending time together. From Marcus making Cog lunch, Cog walking Marcus home, and someone eating paper (it was an accident), they get to know each other better. Marcus is so sweet and wholesome, and Cog can get easily overloaded with stuff, so there’s no telling when they’re gonna confess their feelings to each other. It’s okay though, as long as they get to spend time together. This volume has episodes 1-52 of the Webtoon comic Daybreak.

This volume is fantastic. You have Marcus, a talented, sweet, and cute young teen that is devoted to working hard and being there for his loved ones. You have Cog, an honest, cool, old-school, easily flustered and handsome young person that loves food, books, and music. Marcus and Cog’s interactions were adorable, and I loved the friend dynamics between each of the main characters and their friends. The art was incredible, and the representation (people of color, LGBTQ+ etc.) was amazing. Seeing Marcus and Cog react to when one of them did something sweet made my heart melt, and I love this comic so much. The food looked delicious and I wanna wear Marcus’ outfits. Overall, if you like wholesome stories, great friend dynamics, cute and funny banter, great LGBTQ+ and POC representation, and sweet budding romance with low amounts of spice, then I highly recommend this book. Super cute and sweet. This is peak teen drama and angst surrounding crushes and relationships and instantly transported me to being back in high school.

Now a graphic novel is the only way I will take my slow burns from this point on, because this was so cute. If you want a lil grumpy sunshine kind of vibes this is definitely it. Marcus aka Golden Retriever and Cog aka Black cat lol are two high school students navigating their crush and feelings towards each other. The ending has my heart on the floor because I need to know...what's going to happen between Cog and Marcus. I'm invested!!!

“Daybreak Volume One” is an absolute delight—a cozy, feel-good romance that radiates warmth and joy. Following Marcus, a sweet bisexual trans boy, and Cog, a flustered but lovable nonbinary Afro-Latinx gay, this story is full of adorable moments, slow-burn pining, and wholesome interactions. It’s so refreshing to see a Black queer love story centered on joy, offering the kind of comfort read that feels like a warm hug.

Moosopp’s artwork is stunning, perfectly capturing the tender romance and everyday moments that make Marcus and Cog’s dynamic so endearing. Their mutual pining and hilarious mishaps make this a perfect read for fans of “Heartstopper” and “Bloom”. With so much stress in the world, “Daybreak” is a much-needed breath of fresh air, celebrating queer love in the sweetest way.

Daybreak is a cute slice of life graphic novel following two high schoolers, Marcus and Cog. The two have different ways of showing their affection and must recognize what they're feeling. This was an easy read, but it sometimes felt too simplistic when not much backstory is given. I still enjoyed it and look forward to reading future volumes. Thanks to Webtoon Unscrolled and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What a cute slice of life story about two queer kids with mutual crushes and little idea how to properly communicate their feelings. It's very wholesome, funny, and quirky in a way that automatically has you finding them endearing. There's a very realistic arc of them building up their friendship as they both work through the classic teen struggles of understanding romantic feelings for the first time. Engaging art style where the characters are given depth and emotional nuance. I wish I could binge read all of the volumes at once!

I loved this series on Webtoon, and I'm so happy to see it come to print! The art is absolutely adorable, taking on a bit of a shoju anime quality, and the story is sweet and wholesome. It is a high school slice of life comic that follows two high school students and their slow friendship / mutual crush as they get closer and eventually start dating. This is definitely a slow burn, but the amount of blushing and pining and cute moments absolutely makes up for the longer wait. The main characters in this book are both trans / nonbinary (though it's only really discussed in later volumes) and they're both absolutely adorable in their own way. Cog is nonbinary (he/they pronouns) and is a bit of a clueless grump, whereas Marcus (trans, he/him pronouns) is much more obvious in his affections. It's hinted that Cog might be ace-spec since he's never had a crush on anyone before. This is definitely a queer normative universe since there's a lot of acceptance of both gender identities and the relationship between them.

I absolutely love both the art and the story in this volume. It's done with a lot of intentionality, which I appreciate. The pages are filled with characters of all religions, backgrounds, and body types, with a lot of diversity not just in the main characters but also in background and side characters. Each character is distinct in their appearance and personality and always has a purpose for being there. Unlike the Webtoon, which felt very episodic, the assembled volume has a more complete flow and it's really nice to see how the pages and episodes flow together, even though the content is basically the same. The content is very wholesome and low angst. I think this is the perfect cozy, low stress read with the most adorable romance and absolutely gorgeous artwork.

If this wasn't a webtoon, it would scream WEBTOON. It's very lighthearted with lots of humor about an infatuation between Marcus and Cog which steadily grows into more. Fans of manga would like this as the exaggerated humorous reactions are very manga-esque.

The development of the relationship between Cog and Marcus was cute, adorable, and had a cozy feel. Great representation for BIPOC and queer identifying readers. Sure to have readers seeking out Volume Two.

This was simply the cutest lgbtq story.

Marcus is so cute, i found myself smiling when he blushed. As soon as Cog walked in wearing a pair of glasses, he was a blushing mess.

And when it came to food, Cog cleary loves beef
Cog is such a grump and Marcus was like a sweet sunshine. I definitely loved both characters.

I also love the diversity in the story and of course the art was perfect.

Thank you so so so much to NetGalley and the Publisher for this e-ARC. I requested it because the cover was so adorable! Like how cute are they!? Honestly, this is such a cute and cozy budding love story! The art is amazing! THE CHARACTERS ARE LITERALLY THE CUTEST EVER! These sweet teenaged babies. I love that the main characters are two Black men - like you should pick this up for the representation alone! Cog and Marcus are literally my babies now.

And it has a cute ass plot?? I was invested by like the 2nd page into the story. 5/5 stars - no notes. I kid you not, I was giggling and kicking my feet, like I WAS the one falling in love (or at least like). Well done! I literally am already FEENING for the next Volume! When does it come out again?? I'm going to be re-reading this incessantly until the next part!

3.5-4✨ Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for this ARC of Daybreak!!

I really enjoyed this graphic novel/comic book webtoon. The art style was soooo cute 🥰 that will make me stay to read a graphic novel forever. I love that the two main characters are black young men who feel authentic and real. I loved the representation with the side characters they were cute and seemed like real friends!!

The main gripe I have with the novel is that there weren’t many settings mainly school wearing the same thing over and over. I wanted more plot and things going on.

It left off at a place where I am excited to read the second volume. It’s another queer romance that I would add to my shelf. 📚

Thank you NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for the Arc!

I really love the art style. It's super bubbly and expressiveness of the characters. Their interactions are super fun and cute. The only thing is that everything seems.. rushed? the characters don't have time to fully let their interactions sink in, making them feel a bit flat and interacting only for the sake of interacting. Other than that I loved everything else!

The representation, the cuteness, the art...I LOVE IT ALL. This might be my favorite gay romance I've ever read. I love these two so much.

Daybreak Volume 1 is a sweet and light-hearted graphic novel that centers around Marcus and Cog. High school seniors who begin to navigate their feelings for one another. While the artwork is stunning, the story lacks some of the depth that could have made the characters and their romance more engaging.

While the dialogue heavy format of the book fits the vibe of the story, it sometimes feels one dimensional. There are few setting descriptions or commentary to help flesh out the world and provide context for the characters’ interactions. This gives Daybreak an unfinished feel.

The characters have potential, but we don’t learn much about their lives outside of their budding romance. Marcus’ love of cooking and his relationship with his baby godbrother are only briefly touched upon. For example, I loved the origami flower scene and wanted more interactions like that! There’s not enough development around Cog’s school play/his interest in acting or his family dynamics, only a couple moments with his family discussing his potential feelings for Marcus. I wish the author had taken more time to explore these aspects further, as they would have added to the story and helped me connect with Marcus and Cog more. There’s potential for Marcus and Cog to become more fleshed out characters as the series progresses. Their dynamic has promise, and with further development, they could become more relatable and engaging.

While the romance is sweet, it sometimes feels rushed, particularly in key moments where a deeper emotional connection could have been built. The jokes and interactions sometimes miss their mark, and I found myself wishing for more natural moments that felt grounded in the characters’ development rather than just cute or funny setups. The dialogue heavy approach makes the characters' interactions feel like they were trying to follow an idealized romance formula. I wanted more of their individual lives and struggles to make their budding romance more impactful. It feels more like a fantasy of what a romantic story should look like, rather than something grounded in the characters’ natural growth and relationship.

The art in Daybreak Volume 1 is a definite highlight. The illustrations are beautifully detailed, bringing the characters and their moments to life. The attention to detail in scenes, like the origami flowers Marcus gives to Cog, adds a level of warmth and care to the story.

Daybreak Volume 1 is a cute and charming graphic novel, but it lacks the depth and character development that would make it truly compelling. The slow-burn romance between Marcus and Cog is sweet, but without more insight into their lives and personalities, the connection falls a bit flat. However, the beautiful artwork and the potential for deeper exploration in future volumes give me hope for what’s to come.

I would recommend this to feel good YA romance and readers who enjoy graphic novels with charming art styles.

This story is purely a slice of life teen romance, and it's honestly ADORABLE. There isn't really an overarching plot, it's more of a collection of short scenes that show the main leads slowly getting closer as friends. They are also slowly building romantic tension, but in a very cute way. I really enjoy that the story has them strengthening their friendship and not just diving right into a romantic relationship. I also adore the art style! It's such a fun style, it obviously draws on some old-school shojo romance style quirks for certain expressions. This is such a cute story, and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

I've followed this artist's work for years now and I'm so excited to see a published version of Moosop's work!! I was enthralled to see it up for request on Netgalley and even more excited to have been approved for the ARC! I just got it today but have already finished it. I plowed through this like it was no one's business. The art style is so cute and I've always loved how easy to read graphic novels are. I'm definitely looking forward to reading volume 2!
