Casper is a very sweet and helpful kitty. She makes friends easily which is going to be an asset. After a busy day rescuing kittens, Casper falls asleep and wakes up in a very strange place. She wants to find her way home to her mum but she has no idea where she is. Neither does Junior, the pangolin, who befriends Casper. The two of them have exciting adventures and do some heroic work.
The story is charming and the artwork is wonderful. Casper is so cute. While it is a lovely story that will entertain children of all ages and sizes, the story tells us about unusual animals and the dangers that humans foist upon them. It is not heavy handed but it does make its point. Five purrs and two paws up.

This is a short chapter book (not easy reading for an early reader) about Casper the Cat. The illustrations are cute and a little bit funny. This is the first of a series, and my children really enjoyed this.

My first grader and I took turns reading this story and absolutely loved it. This was such a cute story and led us down many Google searches on African animals. I loved the beautiful way that this story illustrated the importance of family and community, helping others, and even the very serious topic of poaching. Casper is such an enduring character and I loved her outlook on life and situations that she found herself in. We are very excited to see where her journey home takes her next.

"The Incredible Adventures of Casper the Cat Who Got Lost in Africa" is a new series featuring Casper the Cat who, in Book One: The Pangolins, unknowingly finds herself lost in Africa instead of eating dinner and sleeping in her warm, cozy house with her brother dog and human parents! Hungry, lonely, and afraid, Casper sets out to get home but quickly realizes this task is nearly impossible, especially without knowing where she is. During her journey, she finds a new friend and companion, Junior Pangolin, with whom she learns that termites are not fun to eat and is thankful for not having a sticky tongue during her numerous bath times. With poachers spotted in the area, Casper thinks all is lost, but she learns of other animals who can help in crucial situations.
This story is entertaining and educational, making it the best of both worlds for older and younger readers. I enjoyed this story with my 11-year-old, and we both laughed out loud at some of the humorous parts of the story. She also loves cats, so she was smitten that the main character is an adorable black cat; she informed me several times during the reading that she wished it was all real and could keep all the cats mentioned. The story ends without resolution, allowing it to become a successful series that incorporates African animals in a literary manner but provides a non-fiction feel with facts given at the end. The story contains shortened chapters with beautiful illustrations, assisting younger readers to strengthen their reading skills.
Thanks to NetGalley, BooksGoSocial, and Jennifer Ussi for an eARC and an honest review.

Poor Casper the cat finds herself far from her family, and this is her first book of adventures in getting back home. The illustrations were bright and fun and the text was informative. Pangolins are an endangered species and Casper comes upon a family and helps them, before getting help in return. I'm excited to continue this series! Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this.

This is a great book for kids to learn about endangered species and conservation. There are many teaching moments that can be used as a full lesson plan for academics. I love the pictures and enjoyed the story. As Casper finds herself estranged from her forever family, she engages in a journey in Africa and makes many new friends.
I will read this to my speech kids and plan a lesson on endangered species and how to save them

THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES OF CASPER THE CAT WHO GOT LOST IN AFRICA is the first in a planned series of books by Jennifer Ussi targeted to children aged five to eight - all built around the adventures of a sassy cat. This one is a short (56 pages), sweet chapter book with enchanting illustrations by Lekshmi Bose.
Casper is a sheltered city pet who winds up getting lost somewhere in the African wilds, unable to find her way home. In her efforts to get help, she meets some unusual animals including the seldom-seen pangolin, a bat-eared fox, and a Grey go-away-bird. Although Casper is mostly interested in getting back home, she nevertheless winds up in an unexpected adventure involving poachers.
The plot is not completely resolved at the end but instead sets up the next book in this series involving Casper meeting elephants.
At the end of the book author Jennifer Ussi shares information about the animals Casper has met so readers learn a bit about their diet, habitat and role in the ecosystem. I found this to be a valuable addition because it embeds a strong environmental conservation message inside THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES OF CASPER THE CAT WHO GOT LOST IN AFRICA. Highly recommended.

The first book in a new children's series from award-winning filmmaker turned author Jennifer Ussi. Curious and sassy cat Casper accidentally finds herself lost and far from home - and in the African wilderness! On this first adventure, Casper encounters pangolins and other animal friends. Lovely illustrations, an engaging story line, and teachable moments re: conservation work and endangered species.
