After 25%, I was thinking 4 stars because I didn't want to put the book down. As I got further, I started noticing some weaknesse:
Too much repetition about what's happening at the bakery/barkery, taking goodies to the clinic/shelter. Men treating Carrie the same way.
It's crazy for a business owner (much less a new, inexperienced one) who works from 5 a.m. - 6 p.m. 7 days a week to continue working at a vet practice part time. Really? Going in for an hour? It's not worth the drive.
Visiting the places of business and memorial service of the woman you are suspected of killing.
What business uses non-cash register receipts this day in age? This should have been followed up on and eliminated immediately by police.
The overall motive for everything that is set in motion including the murder is so incredibly weak. The murder itself makes sense. Who the killer goes after next doesn't, there's definitely someone else the killer should have gotten first. Based on this, the killer basically outs themself.
I liked it enough to read the next book and hope there are less weaknesses.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
