I really like this series and I really enjoyed this book except where and how the author decided to introduce some 🌶️ into the story the first time . It just didn’t make much sense and I think overall the story would have been better without it .

I wasn’t too sure about the second generation Chances, but now I’m looking forward to the rest of the series - and there seem to be many more books on the way !

I don't know what else Emily E. K. Murdoch has planned, or if it's the turn of a brother or a cousin Chance, but I'm totally ready for it.
.
Each book is better than the last and each female protagonist leaves me speechless, it's a perfect mix of historically well researched work and perfection of character building, it's my first hr/regency romance and it's an absolute five stars.
.
Victoria Ainsworth is head over heels for Thomas Chance, but she's not so blind as to not notice that the attraction isn't mutual, so she's determined to seduce him the following year, except this time it's he who starts showing interest in much more than just her person and if the rumors are true the new Duke of Cothrom needs to fill his coffers after having lost everything in cards and bets.
She's determined to accept these conditions as long as she can make him fall in love with her first.
.
While we see Victoria trying to seduce him we also see how Thomas struggles to keep it all simple, a simple transaction a husband in exchange for her dowry …without her knowing, after all, any young woman would want to marry a duke.
.
Ahh these two, I loved every part of the story, every interaction, it was so fun and entertaining to read. It got me out of a reading slump.
.
Thanks to Emily E. K. Murdoch and Dragonblade publishing for give me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion.

I really loved this book. We are now on our second generation in our chance family and our introduction to the cousins is Thomas who is William's son. William may have soften in the determination of seeing his family only in a good light in society but it is still strong and has shaped his oldest son in looking for his father's approval. However, during that search he has created a situation where he will now need to marry for money. Victoria, has loved William from a far since he danced with her once a year ago: he, however, seems to have not even really noticed her existences but she wants him so much she decides let by gone be bygones and asks him to dance. I like that she was not blind to the fact of why he was pursuing her but felt that she could still get him to fall in love with her. She was a really kind person. I liked her mother as well, a little pushy but very kind to Victoria. Thomas, I mean, he didn't really do anything that wrong till he insinuated she wanted his title and then I was like...... Oh men they are never good enough for women! I did really like her conversation with his sister, she stood up for herself and rightfully so. I can't believe we have to wait till book 17 for his sister's book. Victoria should have left him for his sister and then they could live a wonderful life together, is what I kept thinking.... but alas Thomas was lucky and she decided that she loved (insert eyeroll) so they get their HEA. That aside, they were really a lovely couple. Their courting was very lovely as well. Honestly Thomas should thank his lucky stars Victoria worked so hard to make their relationship a love match! This book felt especially steamy for this author, maybe I am wrong or maybe I have just been reading too many cozy mysteries in a row. I don't think this book needed anything except maybe a female friend for Victoria, I like with the FL has a female friend group.

Can't wait for the next one.

Light-hearted romance!

I enjoyed reading Thomas & Victoria’s story. I found Victoria and Thomas to be two lovable characters. I love a spirited heroine, and Victoria personified her perfectly. Thomas is an adorable hero. The novel combines wit, intellect, and chemistry, and I loved it. I highly recommend it to those who love fun and entertaining stories!

I was really happy with how everything worked out in the end. I highly recommend reading!

I enjoyed this entertaining historical romance novel that depicts the beginning of the next generation of the Chance family with William's son, Thomas. The plot is very well written and full of LOL moments, witty banter, mishaps and misunderstandings, steamy love scenes and lovable characters with great chemistry between them. It was really funny how their minds always wander when they're in each other's presence, putting themselves in embarrassing situations.

When Lord Thomas Chance squanders the entire family fortune, his father William, Duke of Cothrom, does something surprising: he leaves the title and position as head of the family to Thomas along with the duties that go with it. Thomas is determined to marry a rich heiress to recoup his losses and, with the help of a tossed coin, he chooses Victoria Ainsworth for her dowry.
Victoria has been in love with Thomas for over a year and has secretly been watching him. His financial situation is an open secret to her and it is clear that Thomas is courting her for her dowry. This doesn't deter her, however, as she has made a plan to seduce him and make him fall in love with her.
The more time they spend together, the harder it is for Thomas to go through with his plan and deception as he feels more and more attracted to Victoria and the more frustrated Victoria is that Thomas doesn't ask her to marry him...

If you like light-hearted romance novels with very likable characters and lots of awkward moments that will make you smile, you're sure to enjoy this book!

A Chance in a Million is the fifth book in The Chances series.

Thomas Chance is not known for making great decisions. But when he chooses to court a future bride with a coin toss, this decision can only go from bad to worse.

Victoria has cared about Thomas Shance since their last meeting a year ago. She overhears a conversation about Thomas Chance with none of it good. Knowing that he has lost his family fortune, she realizes that she will have to seduce him in order to get him to marry her hoping for love to follow eventually.

Thomas sets out to court Victoria after flipping the coin but finds that there is more to her than her dowry. Thomas does his best to keep his family's loss of fortune from Victoria until he has no choice but to reveal it. But Thomas' brother reveals the truth and cruelly hurts Victoria while drunk. It will take both of them revealing the truth to see if this relationship can be saved.

This was a fun addition to the series. Victoria is unlike most heroines. She is strong, smart, and witty. Thomas comes off as a typical rake but there is more to him than meets the eye. I highly recommend this and the entire series.

A continuous series about the entire Chance family. It's Thomas' time to shine but while you will love his generous and kind heart, you will most likely want to knock him up the side of the head for his lack of common sense. Thank goodness, Victoria, has enough for both of them.
What started as a marriage of convenience ends up being a witty, fast paced story of opposites who struggle to recognize why they married. From an extraordinary author who's creative ability knows no bounds. This story will entertain you from page one.

I loved visiting with the Chance family in this historical romance series. The hero in this book is the first of the second generation. We met his parents and uncles in the four previous books. So if you haven't read them it's easy to start with this one.
Our heroine has heard some gossip that definitely improves her hope of succeeding with her plan.
The hero's plan just might come back to bite him.
The devious plans of both of them bring us a lot of entertainment. The introduction of this new generation of characters has been great and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Great fun.

It’s hardly endeared him to his rule-following father, William, and now Thomas has to gain back the family wealth, earn back his father’s trust, and absolutely not fall in love with the woman whose fortune he’s trying to marry. Fortunately perhaps, Miss Victoria Ainsworth has her wits about her and sees straight through the nobleman with rakish good looks and a devilish reputation—the man just wants her dowry! A marriage of convenience is supposed to be convenient, but there’s nothing more inconvenient for Thomas than the burgeoning emotions he can’t control, or the gossip starting to flicker through Society.
The fifth book in this delightful series. I liked both Thomas & Victoria & thoroughly enjoyed their journey to a HEA, it’s witty, fast paced, sizzling chemistry. A well written engrossing romance that made me smile

I would like to thank Netgalley and Dragonblade Publishing for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This is an enjoyable early Victorian histrom. It starts the love stories of the children of the Chance brothers who where the mc’s in the first four books of the series. It’s interesting to see the difference in their world compared to their parents.

It’s an enjoyable romp through Bath with two characters who aren’t quite what they seem.

It starts with a coin toss and ends in disaster.
Just kidding, they end up happily ever after, but boy oh boy, they do make a mess of it first!

Victoria & Thomas
He’s a freshly minted duke with a rakish reputation and a heart too big for the family coffers. And now that they are empty, there’s only one thing left to do: marry an heiress.
She’s a mere miss, but with a mighty dowry and well aware of his need for fortune. She’s more than willing to share - her money and her heart - but only for love.
Worst of all, they both believe they can fool the other…

This tale was playful and fun, and an excellent way to meet the next generation of Chances!
A smart and frisky heroine begging to be compromised - she really gives it her all; from fluttering lashes and bashful smiles to the bold and forward “take me” after she cleverly emptied her mother’s house of servants. A stumbling bumbling head-over-heels hero not half as suave or grown-up as he thought he was, his conscience that respectfully declines to be silenced, her pushy mamma, his critical sister and bear poking brothers, and a courtship that simply refuses to abide by their unspoken rules.

It's a rollercoaster; witty, exhilarating and fast-paced with this constant delectably naughty vibe and just a splash of steam. It’s sizzling chemistry from the get-go. It’s family for better or for worse. It’s writing a wrong that really wasn’t but the execution failed. It’s two lovable fools so in over their heads, they can’t see straight anymore, and a tidal wave of heartbreak before their stars finally align.
It’s an excellent read, superbly entertaining and simply delightful!

3.5*
Once given access to the family coffers Thomas Chance, heir to a Dukedom, runs through money as if it were water, including his sister’s dowry! With his family’s finances in ruins, Thomas decides the only way to rectify the situation is to marry wealth. One might think that his father would have no confidence in letting his son have free rein to anything but instead he makes the decision to abdicate his title and its attendant responsibilities in favour of Thomas. Now Thomas not only has money to worry about but the estates and all the people that work there. At least with his new title and charm he can have any woman he wants. He doesn’t want a love match and makes his decision about who to pursue on the toss of a coin - a decision that will come back to haunt him. A lighthearted story with a heroine who knows what she wants and a clueless, spendthrift Duke.
Personally I would have thought that Thomas’ father would have arranged a marriage with the wealthiest female he could find for his son and then put him on a strict allowance whilst teaching him about financial propriety. It seems strange that he would abrogate his responsibilities to his tenants and servants plus his wife and three other children.

Emily E.K. Murdoch is one of my tried and true authors that I never get tired of reading her historical romances. The Chances is her new series that explores the various branches on this hunky family tree. This latest book, A Chance in a Million, explores the second generation of Chances. I thought this was such a fun addition and I had only seen legacy plotlines explored in Poldark or The Thorn Birds. This novel focuses on the patriarch's eldest son Thomas and a sweet heiress named Victoria. Thomas unfortunately followed the footsteps of his uncle and blew his family's inheritance (and half sister's dowry) on gambling. Victoria is perfectly aware he's only into her for her money and she doesn't care. Major points for a heroine who just wants to jump the hero's bones, regardless of his intentions. She gave off total Gretchen Weiners vibes and I was here for it.

Victoria was one of my favorite heroines in the series and she knew exactly what she wanted. She was secure in herself and was determined to marry Thomas. Our hero was a bit of a spoiled brat who needed to learn responsibility, but thankfully Victoria offered him no quarter. It made me laugh every single time he was caught staring at her dirty pillows. I can relate to heroines with huge racks and Victoria was no exception. She used them to her advantage and helped keep Thomas within her thrall. Feminine wiles aside, Victoria was a strong heroine who compensated for Thomas' weaker qualities.

A Chance in a Million was a great entry in the Chance family saga. I'm really looking forward to the future stories featuring the children of the core four. I missed my opportunity to read the second Chance book and I need to finish it before their children fall in love. This novel was superb and brought back a resurgence into this collection. Hopefully finding a man with Victoria's vitality won't be A Chance in a Million!

Thomas, son of William (from book 1), is now Duke. He has gone through his family's fortune and needs to marry an heiress, and he picks Victoria. Except that she is aware that he is a fortune hunter and plays with him. A lot of obfuscation on both their ends leads to heartbreak and breaking off their bethrothal and some secrets coming to the open. A well written fast-paced book, for book 5, this series has not lost its appeal.

Chance in a Million

Ooh, this is such a fun witty read I was smiling all the way through the storyline.

Thomas had gambled all the family money away and was now looking for an heiress to right all his wrong but in Victoria he had found his perfect match.

Victoria could see Thomas for who he was and she knew why he wanted her, for her money but she had fallen in love with him the year before.

A fast paced chaotic read you won’t want to miss with lots of the Chance members.

Victoria was truly his one chance in a million, could he accept the gift he had found in to claim their HEA?

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Loved the fun in this story! Thomas has many characteristics in common with his father, William. Thomas' character is so deep and written so well. It is so difficult for him to be real! Victoria is an absolute delight. Together, they truly are a chance in a million!

Doubts, Debts. Deceiving, Discovery, Oh My

What an interesting chaotic up and down romance story this turned out to be,
Thomas and Victoria's journey of discovering true love was filled with some passionate scenes, lots of turmoil and
frustrations especially when the truth of how Thomas made his decision arrives on the scene.
Both Thomas and Victoria made their journey of discovering true love very enjoyable and all of the family was as Individually intriguing as ever.
I was totally captivated until the heartfelt ending where my heart became so happy due to all the happiness and good the money brought to the story's happy ending. Lots of fun banter and desire throughout a long with lots of frustrations especially towards the end
The one sizzling scene was much appreciated.
