A wonderful, delightful book. We follow Kit-Kit and Lighting as they overcome fears and show the kindness of friendship. Kit-Kit wants to read out loud but lets fear get in the way. Lighting goes along to help his friend be brave and read out loud. Your family will love this heartfelt story. Simple but powerful illustrations help deliver the story's message. This book will show little ones the power in friendship and in believing in yourself. Enjoy the adventure with your little ones.

I read this with my niece, and we both enjoyed it! The story is a cute and relatable way to show that some people need the right environment—or a little extra confidence—when it comes to reading out loud. The illustrations were well done and added to the charm of the book. Overall, it’s a sweet and encouraging read for young readers!
Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to read I Read the Book!

Made for little kids, I Read the Book by Meggy Finn is a delightful children's book that will give every young reader the confidence to read their first book—just like Kit-Kit (the kitten), who does so wonderfully with the warm and unwavering support of her friend Lighting (the fox).
With a touch of humor and artwork that I truly enjoyed, this book conveys a beautiful message of kindness, self-confidence, and perseverance.
It is sure to delight all young aspiring readers!

This book is a good motivating resource for young readers, particularly those who might feel uneasy about reading out loud. With straightforward language and an uplifting tone, it seeks to build confidence and emphasize the enjoyment found in reading.

A very simple book about how awkward it may feel to want to read a book but have doubts about your abilities and chances of success, for people who feel awkward about wanting to read a book but have doubts about their abilities and chances of success. A gentle and genteel fox helps a kitten friend with a book, and while we might have had more fun if we'd seen (or heard, or whatever) what the kitty was reading, we see it complete a book at exactly the same time we finish our story here. It's perfectly pleasant and attractive. Is it the best possible example of such a book? I seriously doubt it, though. Three and a half stars.

I received an ARC of this children's book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a sweet, cute book with adorable pictures!

This was a great book about friends and trusting that other person to not make fun of you. I love when the cat first starts to read and says "Meow, Meow, Hiss, Purr," made me laugh out loud.
This is a fun simple book. Thanks!

This is an adorable short children's book that deals with reading and fear. The artwork is cute and it's a fantastic book especially for kids who struggle with reading or who are scared of making mistakes with reading.

I Read the Book is a sweet story about overcoming the fear of reading out loud. Since this is such a common fear in children, this story seems like a non-intimidating option for to child to practice reading out loud with. The illustrations are simple, the text is large, and there is silly humor mixed in. Overall, a cute story and I appreciate that it focuses on a very relatable topic.

Before I launch into my review, I would like to say a huge thank you to Meggy Finn, BooksGoSocial, and Netgalley for the Digital Reader Copy of this title. For anyone with their eye on this title, here is my personal review of the book to help you decide whether you are interested or not. All opinions offered are my own.
I can see the limited value of this book for parents and carers of young children who may be a little advanced for their age when it comes to reading. The book encourages their love of books, gives them courage when they may be afraid to read aloud, and highlights the worrd 'read' throughout. The text is big and clear but it just lacked any real story for me.
Although the images were lovely and simple, and there was little distraction, my preference is for books that also have a comprehension element to them, as it is for my children also. I don't recall them ever being given such simplistic text when they started school. Even, when considering children struggling with phonics, this book contains words like 'whisper,' 'lighting,' and 'knew' that are not pronounced how they are spelt.
I would struggle to recommend this text. Consequently, it has earned 2 out of 5 stars from me.

A really sweet book about overcoming fears and letting your voice be heard. It could’ve had a few more descriptive words to accentuate what was being said, but with it being a children’s book it still worked just fine. The illustrations were beautiful and made the book!

I Read the Book by Meggy Finn was a cute book that will teach those just learning to reader tthat it is okay to make mistakes and also not to know tthe words. I think the illustartions were great and even though it missed the mark with me, I would recommend this all beginner readers of all ages.

A cute story about learning how to read and how it's ok if you're not sure about some of the words. I had my 6 year old read this book. He enjoyed it and it was easy for him to sound out some of the words he didn't know. There was only a couple of words on each page, so not too overwhelming for someone learning to read. I'd recommend this book for someone who's just starting to learn to read.

Simple yet thoughtful book for young readers. As an English teacher this book will be great for my young French students to learn and follow along.

I can appreciate this book as an empowerment tool for a specific reader (presumably the person it’s dedicated to) and it seems to be a sweet homage to the relationship between a student and their teacher/the growth of a reader. However, I didn’t quite get it — one of the characters being named “Lighting”, did the page actually say “read” or was that the joke/point? I think with some clarification, there’s a sweet gem under the dust here but it didn’t work for me as is.
Thank you to Pemaquid Books, Net Galley and the author/illustrator for the early copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book is about the power of learning to read. It had cute pictures and I can use this for a lesson on staying motivated to practice reading. It was also short enough to put in a library center, and my students would be able to read it back to themselves after hearing it once or twice.

Cute illustrations and a really simple idea make this book appealing to those who are also learning to read. The procrastination and multiple false starts will also be familiar to parents and teachers patiently guiding children to read out loud! This in particular made me smile!

This is a really great children's book which will encourage children to read, teaching that it is ok to make mistakes.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

⭐️ 2/5
Cute comic style book for beginner readers. However, the “read read read” or “whisper whisper” “ahem” kind of words can be a bit confusing for those learning to read, especially in a narrative like this where it’s two individuals having a conversation. Even reading this to my daughter she was confused why I was reading “read.” It just missed the marked for me here.
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for an electronic copy of this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was such a cute book and one I'd recommend to read to a child when they are getting into reading to encourage them to read to you :)
