This was an interesting read. Not one I would normally pick up. This book follows the history and life of a church, Capitol Hill Baptist Church. It was very interesting and reflective to read of the life of the church as they experienced the historical events we've all read in history books. How the members navigated through different pastors for different reasons, how they prayed through hardships and fought many spiritual battles. What really made this book shine was reading about all the ways God's faithfulness, grace, and mercy carried and continues to carry this church through. It is evident that the author, Caleb Morell, researched extensively in order to carefully and accurately write on the history of this ordinary yet extraordinary church. It is an encouraging read on how God can use ordinary people for his extraordinary purposes.

This is an exceptionally great book on church history from someone with deep insight and connection to the church. The author presents a very complicated and long history of a church with a unique voice that will resonate with any generation. The biggest skill of this book is the well researched and specific history with no sacrifice to the truth that is able to speak to the church at large. Pastors fail, churches fail, and this books echoes that with a profound grace that will make you appreciate the small sacrifices of the members who keep them going to share the gospel with their communities. Fantastic book!
