If there was a book that could be labeled the opposite of a beach read, The Unfortunates would by it. It's a tough, choppy read, focusing on the richest of the rich, that I ultimately didn't enjoy. To be fair, I'm not sure it's meant to be "enjoyed" but nonetheless it's not one I'd recommend.

While the writing wasn't bad, it wasn't my style, thus I wasn't a fan of Sophie McManus's "The Unfortunates." I was looking forward to reading this one since I enjoy a well-thought-out novel about the 1%, but I couldn't stand most of the characters and didn't care what happened to any of them. I wish I could say something more positive, but this book just wasn't for me.

Very cool idea for a book, and an excellent execution of that idea. A thoroughly enjoyable read. Recommended. .
