As soon as I finished Bless Your Heart, I knew that I was going to be rabid for the second book. And it did not disappoint!
As if the restless dead aren’t enough, there’s a dark and deadly element that is throwing even the most experienced of Evans women for a loop. The evolving mystery of the plot kept me on my toes, in such a satisfying way. We’re thrown into a now-familiar world with a brand new unknown.
Despite loss and heartache, these strong and lovable women keep on keeping on! Every character had such a distinct personality, and I inhaled each POV as it came. I was especially glued to Luna’s growth, who continued blending the poor decisions of youth and the wisdom of a maturing young woman.
This was an absolute delight of an adventure, even when I was upset with the characters or turn of events. Lindy Ryan writes with such imagery and wit, that I’ve added her other books to my TBR! The fast pace kept me eager for each new chapter, so I devoured this book in a day.
I laughed, I cried, and I excitedly told anyone around who would listen “oh, this guy is definitely going to die.”

Lindy Ryan is absolutely gifted at finding the perfect mix of humor and horror in this charming, funny yet gory and scary novel about a family of women tasked with fighting the restless dead in their quirky southern town,
Another Fine Mess is the sequel to Bless Your Heart, and it takes place one month after the disastrous night when blood-thirsty ghouls attacked their family-run funeral home. The family is in tatters, still quietly battling the restless dead, until it becomes apparent that there is an even more monstrous killer on the loose in town. And it seems to be tied to young Luna Evans.
The murders are gruesome and frequent, and Ryan builds the tension deliciously, while readers get to enjoy the sarcasm and snark, the grudges and bitterness, the deep love, grief and loyalty the Evans women feel for each other. There are shocking scenes of violence and brutality, scenes of grief and despair that made me misty-eyed, and scenes where I laughed out loud.
Give me more stories with the Evans women, please!

Upon completing this novel, I discovered it was the second in a series, a fact I had overlooked. While I found reading book two before book one less than ideal, I thoroughly enjoyed the story. The narrative was consistently engaging, although the Evans women did create a somewhat unsettling atmosphere. However, the twists and turns in this dynamic town setting provided a satisfying conclusion. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to readers who appreciate complex narratives set in vibrant small towns. Thank you, Linda Ryan, for providing an ARC and the opportunity to submit this review on NetGalley.

This southern horror follow-up to Bless Your Heart is full of charm, monsters, 1999 nostalgia, and a high body count! I fell in love with the Evans’ family women in Ryan’s series opener, and couldn’t wait to get back to this family of undertakers. Another Fine Mess, is just that; a MESS as a new type of monster begins tearing apart locals’ pets and then citizens. The Evan’s women have been hunting the undead for generations, but this new creature is beyond their knowledge and requires input and support from some new unlikely allies. Multiple POVs, witty humor, gruesome horror, and a propulsive mystery make this novel move along at a quick pace. I’ve grown quite attached to unique cast of quirky characters and I can’t wait to see how the series continues!
“The Evanses might be the weirdest family in the world, with an undead woman, a master strigoi, a moon child, and who knew what else in their strange little funeral parlor — but she hadn’t seen a group of monsters love each other this hard since The Munsters.”
Thank you to Macmillan Audio for my ALC; narrator, Stephanie Németh-Parker is phenomenal. Fantastic accent work, clear characterization, and heaps of emotion and wit make the audiobook such a fun time.

1999, Southeast Texas. The Evans women run their small town funeral parlor, but their true vocation is to help the dead stay dead and buried. Luna's mother, Grace, died a month ago in an incident that shattered Luna. A few more dead bodies have started showing up, and the people who have seen them can't really write them off as rabid wolf attacks: something undead is doing a lot of lurking.
This is actually the second book in a series, which I didn't realize when I requested the ALC. While it was clear to me that I was missing some plot and character details from the previous book, I actually didn't find that it limited my enjoyment of this book. That said, I definitely recommend reading book one first (and personally I will go back and read it).
Another Fine Mess has cozy mystery charm with paranormal appeal. Be warned, there are some graphic descriptions of body bloodied body parts. I found that the tone of the novel helped mellow the gore factor, but consider that as you approach the book.

3.5 Stars – A Fun, Cozy Horror Sequel
This sequel to Bless Your Heart is best enjoyed after reading the first book. Another Fine Mess continues the Evans family’s fight to keep the undead buried in their small Texas town. With witty banter and supernatural intrigue, it delivers a fun blend of horror and humor.
While I loved the Evans women’s sharp wit, the multiple POVs felt unnecessary at times and slowed the pacing. Still, if you liked the first book, you’ll enjoy this one too!
Thank you, NetGalley & Macmillan Audio, for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

The Evans women rarely get a chance to rest as they battle to contain the restless dead in their small Texas town, and this time, there's a new monster in town.
I really enjoyed Bless Your Heart, the first book in this series. I was thinking book number two was going to be a three-star read for me, until the last 20% of the book ramped up the action and emotional impact. I did guess a major part of the book pretty early on, but that didn't affect my enjoyment of the story. What was keeping my opinion lower for the first 2/3 of the book was the overabundance of purple prose, and the fact that so many of the characters are unlikeable. Lindy Ryan can turn some unique and interesting phrases, but sometimes they get annoying. I think this series is worth reading, if you're into slightly cozy horror.
Thanks to Macmillian Audio and NetGalley for the audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Didn’t know I could love this one more than the first one but omg! Love each and every character! Lindy Ryan has become one of my favorite authors. Thanks NetGallery!

Narration: 5/5. The cast is fantastic and did a great job!
Plot: 1/5
I wasn't the biggest fan of "Bless Your Heart," but I was incredibly intrigued about the ending of the book so I really wanted to give this series another shot. Sadly, pretty early on, I realized this definitely wasn't for me. I was so intrigued by the first chapter, but then the next chapter was in the perspective of a cat.... No thanks. Also that opened up to the book, again, having a thousand different perspectives instead of focusing on just a few and perfecting them. I will, unfortunately, be calling it quits here.

This is such a fun series. Definitely start at the beginning (Bless Your Heart) so you get to see the character development. I love these ladies and the town. Also, the narrator is great!

This is book two of the Bless Your Heart series and I would recommend reading book one before diving in to this one. There are quite a few characters in book one and events that are mentioned in this book. I read book one and I even had trouble remembering what had happened.
I would say this is a cozy horror. Is that a thing? I’m not sure, but that’s what I’m calling this. We have a werewolf type creature on the loose killing multiple people in this tiny Texas town. We also have zombies (they don't call them zombies in this book) and other supernatural creatures among the living. There is some gore, but the characters have a light hearted nature about themselves because it’s pretty normal day to day occurrences that’s why I refer to it as cozy horror.
I like the Evan's women in this book. They are a fun group of women and have a good sense of humor even though everything around them is a disaster. Sometimes the characters were confusing because people who you thought have died actually come back to life so it’s hard to keep track. I find these books fun to read, but not that memorable. That being said, I would probably read book three because they are a light fun little horror read.
The narrator does a great job with this audiobooks so that is an enjoyable experience.
Thank you to MacMillian Audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

What can I say, the narrator was beyond amazing! Her portrayal of the living and the dead were spot on. The story itself was pretty good but make sure you note that this is part 2 of a series. Every single character had their own story to tell and each one were believable & diverse. Also if you're looking for some comic banter from some southern dead people this is definitely for you. I enjoyed the mystery of the ""who dunnit?" as well.
The Evans family definitely are a force to be reckoned with as they keep their town from being overrun with countless dead people. To me Luna’s character was absolutely adorable and relatable…made me really feel for her. The sheriff in this was definitely a piece of work! If I could compare this to anything, it would be The Ghostbusters, not a lot of horror, a little mystery with comedy. I rated this at 4 stars only because it did lack in a few places where I wish there were more story than rambling. I thoroughly enjoyed this listen and I really appreciate NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for allowing me the opportunity to listen!

I didn’t realize when I started this that it was part of a series. Now I want to listen to or read the previous book.
This was enjoyable to listen to. Kind of has a little bit of everything thrown in but it works. It works really well!

Audiobook Review
🌟🌟🌟🌟.2
Another Fine Mess is the sequel to Lindy Ryan's Bless Your Heart series. Texas, we have problems. The undead are not staying dead! Linda Ryan has done it again! We get to see more into Luna and Lenore's unique lives. I enjoyed this story a lot and would definitely recommend it. This cover art is also so eye-catching and beautiful.
The audiobook is great! The narrator did a phenomenal job bringing this story to life. I mean, the different voices and accents were top-tier. She was easy to listen to and understand. I listened at 2x speed.
Thank you, NetGalley, and Macmillan Audio for the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Luna and Lenore have an unusual relationship with the dead, and we learn more about it in this sequel. Even though the accents are cute and quaint, and some of the characters are funny, this is real horror with tragedy, violence and death.
I felt really sorry for Luna as she was trying to stop the danger to her community, because you can tell that feeling so different is lonely.
The narrator is fantastic with the voices and I really liked the sheriff's point of view. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me listen to this audiobook

Another Fine Mess by Lindy Ryan is the sequel to her novel, Bless Your Heart.
"Lenore and her granddaughter, Luna, are the last of the Evans women keeping their Texas town safe from the undead. When the full moon finds another victim, Lenore, Luna and the new Sheriff must dig deep in the Evans family history to uncover what threatens the town and everyone they care about."
This book has some humorous characters, but it is definitely horror. I wouldn't really call it cozy horror (whatever that is) Ryan uses some obscure terms for different monsters and the undead in this book. There are some surprising characters that show up. I think it would have been helpful to read the first book. There are spoilers in this one. The body count is high in this one and several of the attacks are gruesome (but not graphic) There's a pretty wild time at the school dance.
Stephanie Németh-Parker is great with the narration on the audiobook. There are male/female voices and multiple ages. She nails them all including the emotions of the characters.
Monster horror fans should enjoy this book from Ryan.

In this sequel to Bless Your Heart, Lindy Ryan takes us deeper into the lives (and deaths) of the Evans family women. There is murder and mayhem aplenty in this horror tale set in a small Texas town. Something is killing the pets and people of the town and Luna and her family are at the middle of the mess. The new sheriff, who had been sweet on Grace Evans before her death, is also in the know about some of the strange happenings and does his best to protect Luna and her grandmother Lenore.
The Evans family has always run the town funeral home and take their duty of keeping the dead dead seriously. For in their town,, the dead have a tendency to rise up and attack others. Kim, the newly hired makeup artist, takes it all in stride and becomes like a family member, helping the Evans family with their gruesome responsibilities.
Luna's long-dead father is consulted and able to shed some light on current events. The book ends with a harbinger of things to come as Luna consults a Ouija board.
Recommended for those who who enjoy horror but want a lighter version of Stephen King. Read by Stephanie Neméth=Parker, the audio version brings the characters, dead and alive, to life.

Thank you, Macmillan Audio, Lindy Ryan, and NetGalley for this ALC of Another Fine Mess
I thought this book was funny and enjoyable. I love the Evans women and the paranormal aspects of the book.
I also think the narrator did an amazing job! I will look for more of Lindy Ryan's books in the future and definitely listen to more of Stephanie Németh-Parker!

Southern grit, strongminded women, and the undead rise again in this thrilling sequel to Bless Your Heart.
At the end of Bless Your Heart, Lenore Evans and her granddaughter Luna were left to bury both the dead and undead-now-dead-again and grieve the loss of family matriarch Ducey and Luna’s mother Grace. Because that’s what the Evans women do – they tend to the bodies of the dead and make sure that they don’t rise again.
It only takes a month for bodies to start dropping again in their sleepy little town. The Evans women, with a little assistance from the local sheriff and Luna’s magician(?) boyfriend Crane, struggle to cover up the murders as something less sinister than the risen dead. But in the living memory of the Evans women, the Strigoi don’t act anything like what they’re facing now. The answers likely live in the un-living memory of Evans women long passed… and possibly Luna’s Strigoi father, buried in the front yard…
Another Fine Mess presents more of a mystery than its predecessor, keeping the reader guessing as to who (or what) is haunting the town. The Evans clan start to collect additional helpers over the course of the book, adding some strong “found family” vibes to the horror-mystery. The gore is descriptive enough to lend strong atmosphere without being sickeningly macabre. And the conclusion – I was gasping at the twists and turns (and perhaps even a small tear escaped my eye). The ending was beautifully crafted – just enough of a cliffhanger for intrigue without dropping the reader straight off the cliff.
The narrator was a perfect choice for this title. Stephanie Németh-Parker has fantastic range. She did a beautiful job playing everything from the lighter teenaged tones of Luna and her friends all the way through the gruffer Sheriff and Deputy. She really shined when she took on the deep, syrupy Southern drawl of the older Evans women. And she did a brilliant (and disgusting) job of portraying the lip-licking wet tones of the Coroner. My skin was CRAWLING when he spoke but it was so realistic!
For anyone with a Southern grandmother (like me), the story is a satisfying balance of fast-paced action with slow-drawling conversations and witty repartees. These Evans women are as strong-willed and sharp-tongued with their kin as they are with nosy strangers, interfering police, and would-be magicians. Expect many pitched hissy fits and mad wet hens, y’all. I reckon the third book in the Bless Your Heart series will be just as good as the first two.

Wowie. I don't even know where to start with all the emotions from this book...the emotions from the characters and my emotions. I found myself sneaking "to the bathroom" at work, and running some extra errands, just to be able to listen to a little more.
Before listening to this one, I decided I had to pick up the first book, "Bless Your Heart"and I am really glad I did. There is so much back story in the first book that would make the second one kind of confusion. The back story continues in to this book and explains even more about the charcters. I would strongly suggest listening to them on audio. The narrator paints a perfect picture of what I imagine these women would be like, giving them each their own unique voice.
The book follows 4 generations of Evans women. Evans women are integral to keeping their small Texas town safe. Each and every one of these women are amazing. It is hard not to love them, even when they may engage in some less than desireable behaviors.
The legacy that these women bring to their town is so strong. Their love of each other is a main theme throughout the book. I am sad that it will probably be another year before the next one is published, but you can guarantee I will be pre-ordering it as soon as I can.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
