it was amazing

Placed against the backdrop of the making of the blockbuster film Gone with the Wind the novel explores the life of Julie an aspiring screenwriter newly arrived in Hollywood from Fort Wayne, Indiana which happens to be the hometown of Carole Lombard, the future wife of Clark Gable who plays Rhett Butler. Julie develops a close relationship with Carole as her personal assistant and also begins a romantic relationship with GWTW's director's assistant Andy Weinstein who she meets on the set of the movie. As Julie's dream of becoming a screenwriter at MGM turns into a reality she grows into her dream of a lifetime but the winds of WWII are drawing nearer and will turn her relationship with Andy into one in which he too must take a stand and leave his Hollywood career aside for awhile and join the fight even while America remains neutral to try and rescue his family members who are trapped by the Nazis in Europe. I found the combination of Julie and Andy's story played out against all the ups and downs of the making of this memorable masterpiece of a film very enjoyable and highly recommend it. My thanks to Net Galley and Doubleday for allowing me the pleasure to read this wonderful novel.
