Nessya had no idea her grandmother was in the Holocaust under her grandmother was invited to share her story at her school, prompting Nessya to ask her grandmother to share her stories with her. Based on a number of true stories, Ronit Lowenstein-Malz tells the heartbreaking stories of the Enemen family. Miracuously, the entire family survived the Holocaust, but many of their friends and other family members were not so lucky. Born and raised in Munkacs, the Germans come to their hometown in the spring of 1944. First sent to a ghetto, Miri's father saved the family time and time again by thinking ahead and constantly being alert. The illustrations for this novel are stunning and the story is told at a young YA/middle grade level. It's my first time reading a survivor's tale from someone in Hungary and I do recommend!
I am so sorry It took me so long to do a review on this book.
I tried so hard to read this book, but sadly it wasn't a book that I enjoyed. I think it was more because of my mood than the story itself. I wouldn't have even given it a rating. But in order to send my review in, I had to give it a rating. So I had to go with a 1 star rating because it wouldn't be fair to the readers if I gave it a higher rating, when I didn't even finish the book.
