Dr. Juiet Ryan was a character that I both loved and was so so annoyed with throughout most of the book.
She misses so many red flags that were happening throughout this entire book, because she was so focused on being angry towards her dad. That was literally her entire focus for so much of the book that it made it so she was blind to all the other stuff happening around her.
Overall this book was not for me. I finished it because I needed to know if they ever got the outbreak under control and if the people responsible for it were held accountable.
Very complex novel about the woman facing both personal and professional struggles to remain faithful to the right values.
I LOVED IT!
Dr. Juliet Ryan is very accomplished professional in the area of the food safety and is very dedicated to protect the customers of her employee, Larimar Springs company. After all, she is highly educated professional and the bottled water is of very low risk to be contaminated. Surely not as contaminated as her relationship with her horrible father is! The cheating one, the one who has had broken her mother´s heart repetituously. And how is ever possible that her mother still can find love for him and peace in her heart?
But then the disease spread breaks - and nothing is ever the same. Deaths and betrayal become Juliet´s everyday ordeal. But this also can make one to learn something about the heart and the soul.
Yay. This is one intelligent, engaging read with issues I can relate to/enjoy the depths of - the shark-infested sea of work sector, the fragile family relationship, the undending fight to do the right thing, the temptation of pride, the power of unexpected kindness and even more unexpected love.
And I loved the topic of food safety and the rich informational background about this issue.
I was deeply immersed and enjoyed every page. Being working professional, I very much understand Juliet´s fights and temptations, the need to be recognized and the (sometimes very hard and even risky) fight for the values. And the betrayal and double-faced faces one meets everyday.
I love how facetely is she portrayed - and how deeply one can understand why is she rejecting her father or her mother´s faith. I would probably be the same and do the same. This is why we need the grace to save us - to save us from ourselves, too.
Just allow me a little nitpicking and then I will continue to sing praises about this novel - being European, I have yet to meet the native Italian called Cyril Montavan, Cirillo Montavagni/Montavani would be the more accurate version.
But let linguistic issues stay away - this is the novel not to miss.
