We first met Carter in book one where we see that he works hard and plays even harder. He is never with the same woman for long and is one very eligible bachelor that comes from old money.

In this novel we see the softer side of Carter as he learns that the aunt that looked after him after the death of both his parents is not only ill, but dying.

Lauren was taken in by his aunt when her parents died and has always held a torch for him and has been by her side for the last ten years.

Carter and Lauren have chemistry and when Carter realizes how frail his aunt is, he even pretends to be engaged to Lauren just to keep his aunt happy. However the chemistry between Carter and Lauren cannot be denied and it is not long before they give into temptation.

With more time together they both really get to know each other and feel more than they ever have for another. Both have issues to over come but Carter has the longest distant to travel and ends up taking the longest route.

We do get our HE A as Carter realizes how he has let his father's choices mar his own and he man's up and takes the place that he was meant to.
