Short quick read. While it seems the book will go one direction, Modglin surprises and turns another.

Sadie and Calvin decide to go on a babymoon to a remote cabin in the snowy mountains, weeks before their first baby is due. However, before their vacation even begins, the couple receives shocking news. They decide to go ahead with the trip anyway, but their arrival brings strange behavior from the rental owners. Sadie can’t help but think she is being watched. Just how safe are they up on the mountain all alone?
Kiersten Modglin once again does not disappoint. She truly has a talent for writing suspenseful thrillers. This is one of my favorites of hers so far. The twists and turns kept me listening and turning up the speed to hear what would happen next. The narration was really good, too. Abby Reno and Jay Myers did an excellent job narrating! 4.5/5 stars! I highly recommend it to anyone that loves thrillers.

I am a huge fan of Kiersten Modglin’s books and this one was no different. Although a quick listen, it was filled with twists and turns with lots of surprises at the end. We get two main POVs in both the “before” and “after.” I really liked the narrators, who definitely brought life to the characters.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen and review.

This book gave me whiplash. It was not what I was expecting. It was a quick fast read that kept me guessing and intrigued throughout. Its not your usual thriller but was still a good read. I kept wanting answers and to know what was going on and needed to know more throughout the book until the answers came and then there would be more questions! What a fun read.

This was suppose to be the trip that saved them. However, it was the trip that broke them. Right before Calvin and Sadie are about to leave, Calvin admits to something that breaks his soon-to-be family. Sadie chooses to push the thought aside in order to enjoy their trip. Are they still able to, with this news looming over their head?

I was surprised this audiobook was so short! I looked and the book itself is only just over 150 pages. This was my first book by Kiersten Modglin and I didn't expect the twist.

“The Last Trip” by Kiersten Modglin is a thrilling, twisty ride that I couldn’t put down. The narrators were fantastic, bringing so much life and intensity to the story. Just like all of Modglin’s books, it was filled with suspense and unexpected twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. I found myself completely hooked from start to finish, unable to stop until it was over. If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, this one is definitely a must-read!

This book was not what I was expecting based off the descrption. The beginning of it is seemingly normal but once you get to the end it's just kind of... blech. What the description doesn't mention is the fact that it's a reltionship between a professor and his student and that he essentially groomed his wife and his fiance. All around it was creepy in a not good way.

Okay, so, "The Last Trip" by Kiersten Modglin? Yeah, I flew through it. I'm a big Modglin fan (read all of the arrangements books) , and this one didn't let me down. I actually thought I had it all figured out early on, which is funny, because she totally got me. I was wrong, and I loved it. It's a quick, fun read (or in my case listen) , and she's really good at those twists. Four stars because, well, I had a tiny hunch early on, but honestly, it was still a blast. Basically, if you like a good, fast-paced thriller that'll keep you guessing, this is it. Thanks NetGalley and dreamscape for the audio version of this book. All opinions are my own.

Pure escapism. That’s what The Last Trip by Kiersten Modglin is. This is a short, tight, fast paced thriller. Sadie and Calvin are expecting their first child, and before the big day arrives they’ve planned a babymoon get away. But before things even get started they get hit with some shocking news. Unbeknownst to both Calvin and Sadie it would see that Sadie’s impending birth isn’t Calvin’s first child. And that is just the first of many wild twists. As I said this is a short book (less than 5 hours) so the turns come fast. I listened to the audiobook over two sessions (likely would have been only one had I not had an appointment I couldn’t miss, lol) Those familiar with Modglin’s work know she often throws in twists you never expect, and this is definitely the case here. Abigail Reno and Jay Myers both do an excellent job with the narration and made this one a pleasure to listen to. I’d like to thank Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review an advanced copy of the audio version of The Last Trip.

I did NOT predict a single thing that happened in this book!! I enjoyed it, enjoyed the ride, and left hating men even more haha.

What a mixed bag of a book.
This is a short book at around 200 pages but there is so much to unpack from it.
I will try not to give too much away though.
The Chapters alternate between 'him' and 'her' and 'before' and 'now' which can get somewhat confusing at times.
We are introduced to a college professor and his fiancée in the story as they begin dating in the past and in the now there is a pregnancy. The professor is a very controlling and calculating man always wanting to plan everything but as we know 'life usually has other plans'
The book starts off in a good pace from the start setting of the 2 story timelines and soon certain questions are asked. What is annoying throughout most of the book is that you have these questions, certain things happen where the characters could tell you what they are thinking after all we are in their thoughts this being a first person book and all. However for the sake of suspense and mystery we are kept in the dark and it gets somewhat frustrating being dragged out for so long until the end just so that we can gets 5 twists/reveals towards the end. I'd much rather the puzzle pieces where revealed in a much more organic way as this made the main female character seem very annoying at times. I feel she seemed too vulnerable and then too empowered it just made no sense.
Towards the end I did like the layers of the story however again would have preferred a more organic layered reveal.
A shout out to the male narrator who executed his narration perfectly and was very reminiscent of 'YOU'.
Many thanks to Dreamscape who provided me with an audio copy of this book via NetGalley for review. All opinions are my own.

A remote cabin. A babymoon. A marriage unraveling. What could go wrong? Calvin and Sadie head to the mountains for one last trip before their baby arrives, hoping for relaxation and reconnection. But from the moment they arrive, things feel… off. The homeowners seem strange. Sadie feels like she’s being watched. And then a secret is revealed—one so earth-shattering it threatens to break them completely. Suddenly, their peaceful getaway turns into something much darker. Someone knows they’re there. Someone is watching. And Sadie better figure it out soon.
I’m shocked I hadn’t read (or in this case listened to) Kiersten Modglin's works before—she’s published so many books, and this novella was the perfect way to test the waters. As a plot-based reader, this checked all my boxes: tight pacing, intriguing characters, and a story that gripped me from page one. It had all the tension of a locked-room thriller thanks to an excellent narrator, but with the unsettling isolation of a survival story. The twists were clever—I had some inklings, but nothing was completely predictable. The dual POVs kept me guessing, and I loved the approach to the unhinged male. It reminded me a bit of The Perfect Home.
This is perfect for readers who want a mid-level domestic thriller with a quick pace, solid tension, and a perfect “good for her” moment. If you've read only a few thrillers and just want something bingeable that delivers on secrets, lies, and betrayals, this is an easy win.

Always love the twists from Kiersten Modglin! She has yet to disappoint me. People are entitled to their own opinions and in mine this was another story with twists never saw coming. Loved it, thanks to Netgalley for allowing me early access to this twisty tale!

What can I say?
She’s absolutely done it again! Completely and totally knocked it out of the park, with crazy, jaw-dropping twists that you will NEVER see coming!!
Calvin and Sadie are expecting their first child. A baby girl. They are very excited. They are engaged, and hoping to get married after the baby comes…
They decide to take a short vacation, before the birth, in order to relax, reconnect, and just blow off some steam…
BUT, before they even leave, they get some shocking news!!
No matter though. Sadie is really looking forward to some time away, so they decide to go anyway.
Mind you, this is a remote cabin on a snowy mountainside… 🤔🫣😫
Once they get there though, the homeowners of the rental show up… and don’t seem to want to leave. ??? What the heck is going on?
And, it only gets crazier from there….
If you’ve read Kiersten Modglin before, you are familiar with her personal type of CRAZY. If you’ve haven’t read her before, please stop what you are doing and pick up one of her books! I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!! 😮 😬 😮

I always get excited to check out what KMod puts out, she has a way with creating super twisty, fast paced and just overall fun to read stories. This one was no different.
•
I absolutely loved the idea of a baby moon and the creepiness of the situation Calvin and Sadie find themselves in. The progression of the story continued to keep my attention when the family returned home and more and more secrets were revealed. This is told from a dual perspective and I loved getting both sides of the story. The ending was fantastic and it was everything I could have asked for.

I listened to this via audiobook and it was narrated by Jay Myers and Abigail Reno. They complimented on another perfectly for their parts and they did a phenomenal job at bringing this one to life!

Overall, this is a shorter read so if you are looking for something quick and twisty, go ahead and pick this one up! Huge thank you to NetGalley, Kiersten Modglin and Dreamscape Media for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.

Truly a subject I have never read before. What an interesting story. You won't figure this one out. It's a short story and worth your time.

Another crazy rollercoaster of a thriller from Kiersten Modlin that I devoured!
Sadie and her fiancé have booked a weekend getaway for their last weekend of freedom before their baby is born, but there are so many strange things going on, Sadie just wants to leave. The landlord and landlady seem to be stalking them and then someone else turns up, intruding on their peace and something just feels off.
When we find out what it is, the twists just keep barreling in! It's completely over the top drama, but in a gripping and very enjoyable way. I love the way Kiersten Modlin's writing keeps us on our toes and the narrators in the audiobook did a great job of bringing the characters to life.
Thoroughly entertaining.
4 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Kiersten Modglin and Dreamscape for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Calvin and Sadie are newly engaged and expecting their first child. To celebrate, Calvin booked a babymoon trip to a remote cabin for some r&r before they become new parents. The seem to be totally in love, and Calvin is so attentive to his pregnant wife. Just before they are set to leave, Calvin breaks the news to Sadie that someone has contacted him claiming to be his daughter. Though Sadie is reasonably a little shaken up by this news, she still wants to go on their trip and decide what to do about this unforeseen news when they get back. Soon after arriving to the cabin, Sadie feels unsafe almost instantly. Is all of this in her head or is there something more sinister going on?
This was my first Kiersten Modglin read, and I have to say, I am impressed! This short little audiobook, of just 5 hours, was filled with twists, an unreliable narrator, remote cabin terror, multiple POVs, nonlinear timelines and more. Even though this story was filled with about everything you can think of as far as domestic thriller tropes go, I thought it was so successful and kept the reader totally enthralled with what was going on. I'll never complain about a short book; however, I do kind of wish we had more time with Sadie questioning her reality to build up more to the end. I think that would have made the plot a bit more thorough, but either way, it was a great little read with some fantastic narrators!
Thank you NetGalley, Kiersten Modglin, and Dreamscape Media for this advanced listener copy!

If there’s one thing you can count on with a Kiersten Modglin book, it’s that you’re in for a ride—twisty, fast, and always entertaining. The Last Trip is no exception. At just five hours, this one might be short, but it delivers.
From the jump, it’s got that deliciously scandalous, salacious energy that makes it impossible to stop listening. The dual narration? Absolutely spot-on. Both narrators did a fantastic job bringing the tension and suspense to life. I flew through it in less than 24 hours, completely hooked.
The story follows Calvin and Sadie, a couple looking for one last peaceful getaway before their baby arrives. But, of course, this is a KMod book, so peace is the last thing they’re going to get. Instead, they’re met with eerie hosts, unsettling revelations, and the creeping suspicion that someone is watching.
If you’re looking for a quick thriller that keeps you guessing, The Last Trip is a perfect pick. It’s exactly what I expect (and love) from Modglin—twists, tension, and an entertaining escape. Whenever I hit a reading slump, I know I can count on her books to pull me right out of it.
It’s a yes for me! 🖤
