A Killer Getaway fuses romance, revenge, grief, suspense, and a little bit of moral ambiguity to give a truly unique and captivating read.

Lily Lennox isn't your usual protagonist. You know upfront that she's a murderer, and she's planning more murders. She heads to the same exclusive health and wellness resort each year to work as a lifeguard and scope out her next kill. It's always someone who, on the surface, seems to deserve it, and with no personal ties to her. She thinks she can get away with this forever.

That is until a nosy reporter, Daniel Black, starts dropping hints that he's interested in all the unexplained deaths at the resort. Oh, and did I mention he's sexy as hell and Lily can absolutely not get him out of her head?

What follows is a suspense-building unravelling of both Lily's past life which has led her to be the murderer she is, and her present, where she feels the need to continue her quest, despite falling hard for the very man who might find the proof to put her in jail.

I loved the exploration of grief and love in this story. I think it was necessary to feel any level of empathy for a main character who is a killer. While I appreciated the story that led Lily to become the person she is, I had a problem connecting fully with her reasons for taking the victims she did. Sure it seemed like they were not great humans on the surface, but it's not like any of them were doing anything worth a vigilante killing. And some of them might've changed their ways given the chance. But perhaps that is intentional, something the author wants us to consider as we read. Asking us how we judge others, and where the line between good and bad might be. My copy didn't have the book club questions so I can't be sure but hey, I'm going with it.

The romance is very well-paced, with just enough pining and sexual tension leading up to some very satisfying (and slightly spicy) scenes. I like how the interplay of their personal relationship really ups the stakes for both of them. It's not a romance for romance's sake. It matters to the plot.

I found there was a tiny bit of a disconnect between the voice at the very beginning, which skews very literary and beautiful with lines like "You say it like it moves you. Like there's something sacred about the mathematics that wove my proportions together when I was nothing but a blob of cells." But by the next chapter, the voice is much more conversational and less introspective/lush. I'm not saying I don't enjoy it, as I do. Lily's voice is a great voice, but I was just a bit taken aback by the shift.

The plot is an enjoyable ride. Like all books with an aspect of unfolding mystery/crime, I found a few areas where it seemed like Lily was being too reckless or would get caught (for example using the same lie twice), but that's my personal opinion and other readers will feel differently. It did nothing to hamper my enjoyment of the story, that's for sure!

I guessed a few of the twists, but I think that is actually down to good writing. Twists don't come from nowhere. They are more satisfying when there's been hints along the way, and you pick them up, and eventually are vindicated for hanging onto them as you read. I love the way the hints and bits and pieces of Lily's life and Daniel's background are dropped and culminate to give the full picture.

All in all, this was a very enjoyable, unique read. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys female-based suspense.

While the book definitely had parts that I enjoyed I feel as the book as a whole was just overall meh. I did enjoy the description and I liked the FMC but in terms of romance I didnt see much of anything. It wasn’t my favorite and towards the end it dragged alot for me :/

I thought this book had an intriguing premise, but it didn’t live up to my expectations. I felt like the setting of the Riovan Wellness Resort was vividly described, and I enjoyed imagining the tropical atmosphere and exclusivity of the island. However, I expected the story to deliver more in terms of romance and mystery, and I felt disappointed by the lack of depth in both aspects. I found Lily’s character interesting, and I admired her determination to carry out her secret mission while maintaining a low profile. But I felt like her motivations and emotions weren’t explored deeply enough for me to fully connect with her. I appreciated the addition of Daniel Black and his role as an attractive journalist asking tough questions, but I felt their romance lacked the spark and tension I was hoping for. I wanted more suspense and twists in the murder-mystery plot. I felt like the pacing was slow at times, and the story didn’t build up the level of excitement or intrigue I was looking for. I enjoyed the idea of Lily’s dark mission, but I felt like the execution could have been more engaging and impactful.

Overall, I thought the book was fine—it had potential but fell short in delivering the romance and mystery I expected. I felt like it was a bit too predictable and didn’t keep me as invested as I had hoped. It wasn’t a bad read, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression on me.

Sienna Sharpe’s writing is a treat, I enjoyed the interesting plot of this story and the way the reader really was kept guessing (though I think a bit too long in some cases).

I do wish the main characters background and the details of her relationship with Jessica was detailed in a bit more concise way, it felt drawn out too long.
I appreciated that in the end Lily was held accountable for some of her actions, it made the story a bit more believable than if she got away with everything given all the evidence/clues brought up.

I will mention that this story may be triggering for anyone with body image issues and diet culture- I felt that the description did not give a fair warning that they’d be touching on the topic a lot. I think it would have been extremely beneficial for the summary to include some sort of snippet.

A suspenseful but cozy mystery that straddles the line between an Emily Henry-esque romance and a female Dexter-like potential killer. In other words, it's an incredibly FUN read that will keep you on the edge of your seat (or in my case, scooting forward in bed) for both the witty romance and the cat-and-mouse game between investigative podcaster and suspected serial killer.

I received an ARC of this ebook from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review. I really wanted to like this but it was just not a hit for me. There were plot holes in the storyline, the main character’s personality kept changing, and the ending was just kind of weird and not satisfying.

I didn't really vibe with this book at all. I didn't click with the characters, and the plot wasn't enough to keep me reading.

3.5 Stars!

A Killer Getaway by Sienna Sharpe offers a darkly entertaining premise: tropical island, multiple suspicious deaths, and a murderous lifeguard that also has a secret vigilante streak. Lily Lennox is an intriguing character—confident, calculating, and chillingly calm—she's basically the perfect serial killer. The plot had a lot of potential, especially with the addition of Daniel Black, the suspicious (and suspiciously hot) guest/journalist/podcaster asking too many questions.

The story was hard to follow at times. The timeline jumped around in a way that made it difficult to stay grounded, and some plot points felt glossed over or incredibly vague. There were also a lot of side plots that could have been narrowed down, or deleted altogether. The romance between Lily and Daniel did not lack any sparks—it was oddly hot considering the circumstances. However, Daniel's quick descent into red-flag-loving infatuation was a little too unbelievable.

The book dances between dark romance and mystery-thriller but doesn’t fully commit to either, which made it feel a bit uneven. Still, there’s something satisfying about watching a morally gray woman navigate love, lies, and murder with style.

I love a good female serial killer book! This is a fun take on a classic murder mystery. It's cozy, it's got romance, and best of all a morally grey FMC.

Honestly, I'm torn between 2 and 3 stars but the ending picked up for me so I've given it 3 stars.

The synopsis made me pick up this book instantly. But I was so confused about what I was reading. What Lily is doing at the Riovan and why she's doing it were way too vague, making the first half of the book fall flat. The writing was not great either. Took me a really long time to get through the first half and I've thought about DNFing multiple times. There was so much potential for a smart female lead who is a serial killer but she didn't have much of a personality. Plus when the FMC and MMC got together on a whim, I couldn't feel any chemistry.

Thankfully the latter half plot and pace got better. I started enjoying the book when the FMC finally got around to doing what she came to do. Lily and Daniel started having character when they stood by their sense of justice while navigating through conflicting feelings. There were so many choices that could have been made and the choice that was made was satisfying enough for me.

Appreciative of the ARC copy of this from NetGalley! I LOVED this book, such a unique way to immerse in a cozy, murder romcom. The witty banter, the writing, it was all done so well. I loved how seamlessly the bisexual representation was, it felt so natural to the characters. I feel like I just kept wanting more and more from Lily’s backstory and Daniel, oh what a dreamy, justice seeking guy. Definitely recommend this as a beach read, but for a FMC with a murderous streak.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for providing this book, with my honest review below.

A Killer Getaway seems like a delicious serial killer novel at first glance but is so much more as it dives into the world of vigilantism against bad behavior and the lies we are fed about our bodies. Lily Lennox has been working at the Riovan over summers despite her successful business back home and it’s by design. With a plan she forms every summer to target those who most deserve it (the backstory of which is teased out over the course of the book and fascinating), this summer has thrown a wrench in things when she finds herself attracted to someone for the first time in ages. Lily’s hunt for and against her would be victims and trying to piece out, for the reader, what happened in her past is pretty thrilling in and of itself. But throw in journalist Daniel and Lily’s conflicted feelings and his own ulterior motives and the plot certainly thickens.

I almost feel this would have been gold without Daniel, but he didn’t detract. I loved the intrigue as we slowly learned more about Lily and what’s fuelling her on as well, completely satisfying.

I love that this book had bisexual representation. There were so many twists and turns, it made me not want to put down the book. I wish the ending wasn’t so ambiguous but it also suggests a happy ending. It might have been nice to get an extra bonus scene. I also would have wanted more romance but there was still a lot of romance scenes. It just wasn’t the main driving force of the book.

So much fun! I could not put this down. I did not see all of the twists coming which made this book a lot of fun. I empathized with her struggles and rooted for her growth and healing. Will definitely read more by this author!

I went into this wanting a FMC vigilante killer story as my last read lacked that factor and I never would have expected that I would be reading a book that had more than what I was looking for. For starters I like a thriller mystery yet this book had a reverse murder mystery to it which made me question if it would pull me in as we are already introduced to who kills and what has happened at Riovan in the past 5 years, and oh was I wrong when I thought I knew where it was going. This was not just Lily’s yearly Riovan k*ll*ng escapade, this was a raw and emotional journey that opened us to grief, body image, moral dilemmas, and complex relationships.

The writing was beautifully crafted and deeply literary which adds a layer of authenticity to the characters making their thoughts and feelings feel more impactful. As I already mentioned how much I loved and enjoyed Lily’s character and no words can express how much I was intrigued by her as a person. Her relationship/romance with Daniel also added an element that made the story more exciting to follow as they navigated their attraction/connection despite their differences. That latter part and ending of the book pulled something deep within me that I started to tear up with how emotional it was.

❝ I was lucky to get one great life. And I’m starting to think that maybe, just maybe, I’ll be lucky enough to have two. ❞

In the end, this was far more than just a typical FMC k*ll*r wanting to make the world a better place. It was a slow but steady journey of justice, vulnerability, self-discovery, reflection, and confronting the harsh truths of life. So glad that I took the time to scroll Netgalley for this book and downloaded it asap! Finally happy to say that I have an ARC that delivered and gave me more than what I had expected. I hope you/everyone should give this one a try as this is in the “Read now” section for titles in Netgalley. Solid 4-star and am excited to read more of Sienna Sharpe’s works in the future.

➳ Huge thanks to the publisher & author — Sourcebooks Landmark, Sienna Sharpe & NetGalley — for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was fun! I thought this was a very unique way to do a pretty classic kind of story, a murder mystery.

The characters were likable and felt realistic, especially with the conversations they had and the depth of character that those conversations showed within the characters. I really did like that, I thought that was very well-done and was a clever way to tell us a lot about the characters.

I would definitely categorize this as more of a cozy mystery/cozy thriller. So if you're looking for a more summery cozy mystery, I would definitely recommend looking into this! And I feel like you don't see a lot of summery cozy mysteries, they tend to be more wintery (at least, in my experience).

This did feel a bit slow at times, which feels weird to say about a book that makes you quite a bit sympathetic towards a serial killer, but I think it was the timeline thing for me.

And I feel like a lot of conversations can be had about this book due to its content, like toxic wellness culture (and the whole can of worms that opens up) and so much more. And I like being able to tell that you can talk about a book. I think that speaks highly of it and how it can be interpreted.

Overall, this was a fun, quick and easy read! Thank you to NetGalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! My Goodreads review is up and my TikTok (Zoe_Lipman) review will be up at the end of the month with my monthly reading wrap-up.

What a fun book! I enjoyed the main character and the plot. Not every day you get to read about a female serial killer and have it be a dark comedy.

The writing slows nicely and is addictive, which made this unputdownable.

A great summer read!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC. I DNFed at 29%.

I support women’s rights and women’s wrongs, so surely this would be the book for me, right? While this was a miss for me, I think it’ll find its intended audience.

I loved the premise! The prologue failed to reel me in, and I didn’t find myself invested in the FMC’s serial killer streak.
