Peter Piot is a hero for our time. As the founding executive director of UNAIDS, he was a pioneer in getting funding and political support for work against AIDS. His experience as a scientist and an activist fighting the disease was exemplary. This book catalogues his adventures as an activist and administrator. He does not pull punches, and he gives credit and lays blame openly and directly. AIDS changed global attitudes toward sexuality, as well as dynamics in the doctor-patient relationship, and the influence of civil society in politics and public health. A very strong book.
