Jumping into this series four books in put me at a disadvantage but also gives me reason to seek out the initial three. I found the use of male nicknames for most of the women to be odd; I didn't hate it and I also did not particularly like it. Every time I read "MIKE" or "BOBBY" it added that extra millisecond of thought to retranslate that this was a female character.

Three characters marry over the course of this book and all in very different war-impacted styles. I was rooting for the Canadian airman over Charlie, but the twist that resolved Charlie's absence was entertaining. I felt a subliminal "feminist/pro-woman/anti-man" vibe throughout the story with several characters commenting on how bad all men were and terrible behaviors were simply to be expected. However, I must say Lil's consistent insistence that she was party to her unintended pregnancy was refreshing.

This is the fourth in the series , and as they others Bobby is our main character and,we continue to follow her life in the beautiful Dales.
However , with the war at the point it is everyone is expected to play their part in it , and the powers that be have turn attention to Bobby,and,she is called up.
Will her relationship with Charlie survive and will they ?
Great plot as always , new people for Bobby to get to know , alongside her new lifestyle thrown her way.
Excellent.

This is book four in the made in Yorkshire series by Betty Firth and it feels good to be back with familiar characters.
It's January 1942 in the village of Silverdale, which is in the Yorkshire Dales in the north of England.
Bobby still feels like she has the world on her shoulders, what with her dad still needing to be looked after and her sister dropping a bombshell that she is not only pregnant but getting married really quickly to avoid scandal. But Bobby has had an official letter which must only mean that she has been called up, as a single woman she has to do her duty. But all she can think about is who will take care of her dad, especially if he has one of his turns. She really doesn't know what she should do for the best, best for her, her dad and her fiance and when she meets up with her Canadian friend, who is back injured she is truly worried that she will make the wrong decision. But do her duty she must, and do it for the best of her ability and soon Bobby is finding herself with many other young women in a totally different environment to what they are used to, trying to do a job they are not used to doing. New friendships are formed between the girls, but there is still a problem with Bobby not having any news of her fiance, is he injured or killed in a bombing mission? Or has he gone off her and found another girlfriend? Bobby is determined to find out the truth but will the truth hurt more?

A truly lovely story, I loved every page and was sorry when I turned the last page, I want to know more, and hopefully there is more to come in a future book.

Another great story about Bobby Bancroft who is still working on The Tyke the local paper.She is engaged to Charlie who is training to be an RA F pilot.Bobby is living in the Cow house at Moorside farm.Bobby then gets conscripted into the WAAF where an old Canadian pilot friend is training pilots while an injury he got heals.Lillian, Bobbys twin sister then finds she is expecting and Bobby doesn't know how to help her and not let their dad know as he will go and especially when he finds out who the father is..Suddenly Charlie stops writing too her and she thinks he has found somebody else or worse he has been killed.What will happen to Bobby and her sister.and what has happened to Charlie.Thank you to Netgalley and Hera Books

Back to the Dales for another visit. Bobby Bancroft is preparing to leave the Dales now women have been conscripted just as her fiancée has finished training. Charlie is ready to fly.
Her friends Topsy and Teddy are getting ready for their own nuptials and soon after Bobby is sent away to train as a WAAF. She encounters an old friend the Canadian Eddie King whom is being going bs k memories of Charlie whom she hasn’t heard from in weeks, but he’s still writing to his family in Silverdale she’s so confused. Eddie is showing an I trest in her and with no word from Charlie her faith in the marriage she was so looking forward to is dimming.
Looking forward to another visit to the Dales soon, love this series and Betty Firth has drawn us into this lovely village and its residents during the war.

I have loved following Bobby's story since she arrived in the dales in book one. She has come such a long way since then, finding family, friends, career, love and a feeling of home. Just as she is settled, the war has other ideas and she is called up. A new life, a new routine, everybody she loves left behind. But can her relationship with Charlie survive the separation? Well researched, warm and absorbing. A lovely book! And still two more to come

I enjoyed reading this book and my visit to Silverdale catching up with old friends.

It was lovely to read about Bobby’s new journey with the other ladies at the WAAF training camp. Her relationship with her fiancé went through a rocky patch but things took an interesting turn which portrayed what war is like and the effects it has on those that fight in it.

I’m looking forward to reading about Bobby’s new journey some more as well as the other friends we’ve made.

I recommend this book.

Book 4 of 4 - a story of WWII, with lots of love and friendship. Very deep characters and well researched. Be sure to read the other books in this series.

this is a series you will want to get involved in. there are certain groups of books i sincerely love. thrillers. romance you name it i have little shelves in my heart for them all. there is historical fiction of course then there is this little side group of them. and you know the ones, they all feature these brilliant types of covers and titles. well here we are again to another one of my much cherished genre types.
and its knocking it out the park once again.
the people you want to come back to,the place sings of the page. the characters are all varied and flawed and of course war is now fully upon them so life isnt easy nor without fraught and emotional moments. decisions have to be made and i suspect people change or act in way us on the outside of this time cant quite align with.
Bobby has been our main character from book one which i love. as so often in the series of books we love there is a book each telling someone different i the group or community. but this really does make us fall for Bobby and rooting to know more of her story.
her love life had me in a spin for this one. i was finding myself thinking "really, what is the right thing her" and didnt know whether i was being morally wrong by swinging certain ways when certain things played out in the book!
Charlie has been her love since she moved to the village. but hes gone quiet. and seemingly just on her. so what is she to think. is he just at war? or is his silence telling her more? especially confusing when Ernie(so glad hes back) is there, making it known he likes her. is he?
there is her dad who is still struggling from his own experience of war. and i felt nothing but pain for him. i cant imagine what mental turmoil that created in some of our survivors of the time. her friends and sister are also still there. and their are wedding bells on the horizon...arent there?
another beautiful installment. and i cant wait for more. although as i get to know the character this much i do find myself far to emotionally involved in the evolving plot points!

This is Bobby’s story, everyone wants a piece of her, her dad Rob relies on her to keep house and she is his support when he suffers from his war experiences, sister Lillian relies on Bobby when her life is taking a twist and she needs sisterly advice and support, Lady Topsy uses Bobby as the backbone to support her wedding arrangements then thinks she is doing the right thing by making one of her phone calls to get Bobby out of a situation (will Bobby allow her moral compass to use this as a way out?).
When duty calls Bobby feels she must do her bit for her country, especially when men young and old are putting their life on the line. Could this actually be life affirming for her! Bobby is thrown into turmoil as the weeks slip by without word from Charlie, made worse when she discovers that friend Mary (Charlie’s sister-in-law) is hearing from him, can’t believe he would give up on Bobby or has he! Then along comes friend Ernie King who has that special look in his eye when he’s talking to Bobby made worse when they are thrown together one icy day. Made worse when the WAAF decide to put on a dance for the girls and who should show face but one handsome American as Mike described him, will Bobby go with him?

I felt that Bobby was one special young woman who deserved that special someone in her life and actually got annoyed on her behalf at the unfairness of life. So no surprise that she was my favourite character. Least favourite, for a while was Dilys then Bobby persuaded me otherwise. Bring on the next book..

Another fantastic book in the series. Returning to Silverdale always feels like going on holiday to a favourite place and meeting up with friends again. I enjoyed reading about Bobby’s adventures at the WAAF training camp and meeting some new characters and look forward to seeing how that develops. It’s hard to review the story without giving spoilers. The story didn’t go where I expected it to and I thought that was a brave decision but also reflected the reality of war; there can’t always be a perfect happy ending. It was a romantic, heartfelt and satisfying read and I can’t wait for the next book.

Another lovely story in this very readable series. I do hope there is more to come. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

I always enjoy the books in this series knowing the area around Skipton in which they are set. I didn't quite enjoy this one as much as the previous ones in the series although I would still recommend it to others. I found it a bit disappointing that Bobby had to leave her job and missed all the stories from the farm in the second half of the book. I do hope that the next one in the series tells us both the story from Bobby's perspective and gives more mention to life on the farm.
