Steve Cavanagh has done it again! Eddie Flynn lives rent free in my head, and the twisted sisters in this novel will have you wondering what happens next until the end.
Highly recommend, a game of chess has never ended so deadly!

I have read plenty of crime/thriller/court stories and this one was one of the best I've read. The first bit felt like a lot of back and forth trying to wrap your head around Eddie's side of the case and Kate's side but also throwing in "She" but all of it made sense and was 100% needed. All of the characters were great, obviously except for the sisters (maybe just one..). I found myself second guessing what I was truly thinking and if I was being bamboozled.
Such a great read if you want to think critically and want a storyline that makes you second guess who think is the killer!
Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for my Advanced Reader Copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion!

I received an ARC from NetGalley.
I thoroughly enjoyed the legal accuracy in this story and the alignment with chess. All the characters were enticing and interesting enough to stay enamored throughout. I had theories that were wrong! I was guessing Mom was really alive, the step-mom, or perhaps the sisters were working together all along, playing the ultimate game of chess with their mother 😆
Anyway - the negatives:
All the characters are conveniently single - making it easy for them to come/go and be targets. Nobody is in a relationship or have someone that regularly checks on them, so ppl can just go missing without raising a concern. One male character is labeled a “weekend dad” but weekends come/go and there is never mention of a visit.
There is a flaw with the storyline in regard to how the sisters’ apartments were searched for evidence (I.e., poison/Rx) and nothing was found… but yet one of them had a dead body on ice in their bathroom during the beginning of the case?? Plus, ppl came to visit this sister and there was no smell? Ice isn’t a miracle worker…
The way one of the victims dies in public is too convenient. They are murdered after a hearing and NO ONE asks for the suspects’ alibis? Law enforcement doesn’t wait to investigate a crime just because one is already on trial, so I didn’t like this storyline convenience either. A true situation such as this would have had due diligence and no police officer in the right mind would chalk it up to an attempted robbery on a random guy walking amongst others on a sidewalk.
Also the serial killer is NEVER tired?? 😆 I would enjoy this as an episode of Criminal Minds

This is my favorite Eddie Flynn novel so far, although I can’t say that it was shocking or twisty like many of Steve Cavanagh’s other books. The premise of the novel essentially limits the shock factor. If it’s not one sister who is the killer, it’s the other. Aside from that, though, this novel is a decently paced, well-written legal thriller. If you like courtroom drama and investigation, this one is for you!

This book had me on the edge of my seat! I was back and forth on “who done it?” As soon as you thought you were convinced that one person did it, you could be sure new evidence would arise and raise suspicions on the other suspect. If you thought your were a master detective, you’ll be proven wrong with this read. Well really with any read by Steven Cavanagh. Eddie Flynn is a magnificent lawyer. He is a diabolical lawyer. He would make for great TV! I must say, Steven Cavanagh did it again.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC.
Wow! The way this book delivered the suspense and mystery was perfect. Even though I had a feeling on who done it I just had no idea how it would all unfold. I like that! The court scene set was so informative and interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever read something similar and I learned so much from it. Definitely recommend if you enjoy crime thrillers with murders, gore, heartbreak and more…

I had a hard time getting into this book and ultimately did not finish it. I am not sure if it is due to the fact it’s part of a series and i had not read the others or if it’s just not my cup of tea.

I was instantly sucked into Fifty Fifty from the very first chapter. The premise is gripping—two sisters each accusing the other of murdering their father—and the story unfolds from the perspectives of their attorneys, as well as a mysterious “She,” who turns out to be the killer. The alternating viewpoints kept the suspense high, and the fast pacing made the second half of the book fly by.
Though this is part of a series, I jumped in with this one and now I’m eager to go back and read the rest. If you enjoy a good murder mystery with a strong legal drama angle, this one’s definitely worth picking up.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

They say that there are no such things as monsters.
You may want to rethink that after Fifty Fifty.
Steve Cavanagh can do no wrong in his Eddie Flynn Series. Although this is marked #5, it reads perfectly as a standalone. You'll be delighted to buckle up in the passenger's seat and ride it out to a smashing end.
Sister vs. Sister. One of them killed their father. Just which one did and which one is lying is at the core of Fifty Fifty. Eddie Flynn, astute lawyer with more tricks up his sleeve than a dog has fleas, arrives at the police station after these two society well knowns are arrested for murder. Two different 911 calls came in from that mansion from two different sisters. Each claims the other murdered their father, Frank Avellino, former NYC mayor.
Eddie has been assigned to represent Sofia Avellino while newbie fledgling lawyer, Kate Brooks, takes over the case of Sofia's sister Alexandra. Both sisters are stickin' to the same story. The hate these two have for each other is thick like mucking out a stall in tennis shoes.......nasty and assaulting to the senses. But one of them is guilty. So which one?
If you've ever read Steve Cavanagh before, you know that he weaves a brilliant story every time. His character of Eddie Flynn is challenged to the hilt by each case with Cavanagh never reaching for the simple bread-and-butter cases. Eddie was a master con artist before he became a lawyer, but remarkably, those "gifts" have never left his pocket. And Eddie's gonna need them to up the ante here. Twisty, creative, and breathlessly exciting, Fifty Fifty is a must read for solid fans or those just getting their front row seat. Bravo, Steve Cavanagh, just bravo.
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. My thanks to Atria Books and to the talented Steve Cavanagh for the opportunity.

2 sisters involved in the murder of their father accuse each other of being the lone perpetator. Eddie Flynn is back to figure out who is lying and who’s telling the truth. I enjoyed the mystery of this one quite a bit. I liked the switching of the perspectives. This one kept me wondering until the very end.

I had only red one Steve Cavanagh book before, Thirteen, and was pleased to find the same twists and turns in this legal thriller. This novel is about a criminal murder trial, but the defendants are two sisters who each insist the other one killed their father. There is an omniscient "she" point of view, from the perspective of the unnamed killer, so the reader gets to try and solve the case alongside attorney's Eddie and Kate. Will keep you guessing until the end!

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the copy of this eARC in exchange for my honest opinion of the book.
Steve Cavanagh does it again with this Eddie Flynn book! The twists and turns….
The dual defendant perspective definitely keeps you guessing. Each time you read from one’s perspective you think you have it figured out of who is guilty. And then it switches to the other defendant and you think you’ve got it wrong. He keeps you guessing throughout the whole book and it is truly a great suspenseful ride.
Two sisters. The father murdered. One of them did it.
Both of them were in the house
Who did it?
You think you know. But do you?
Read the book and see how many times you change your mind.
Masterful writing and I enjoy that the legal aspects are written in a believable way.
If you want a well written legal thriller, these books are for you.

Steve Cavenaugh's "Fifty Fifty" is a total rollercoaster ride that'll keep you flipping pages like crazy. The writing flows easily and the plot twists come at you fast and furious, making it perfect for when you just want to sink into your couch and escape for a bit.
The only downside? After a while, you start expecting the unexpected, which kinda takes the punch out of all those "gotcha" moments. Still, it's a solid three-star read that does exactly what it promises - entertains you without making your brain work too hard. Worth picking up when you need a quick thriller fix!

This is book 5 in the Eddie Flynn series. It can be read as a standalone but is better read in order in the series.
I really enjoy this authors writing style so will be looking for the rest of the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this ARC

I am rating this book 4 stars. The author had my attention from the beginning, but the book was very slow and hard to keep my focus for a good bit of the book. After about 70%, the book picked up pace and I couldn't put it down. The book was well written and it showed that the author did a lot of research to make sure to give as much accuracy to the book as possible. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have received this ARC and hope others enjoy the book as much as I did.

Steve Cavanagh delivers a stellar legal thriller. Fifty Fifty is a great example of a novel with drama and psychological unease done well. The morally twisted characters and sharp dialogue complement the plot. The story’s twists caused me to second guess everything.
The concept is both simple and brilliant: two sisters call emergency services to report the murder of their father. Each points the finger at the other. One of them is lying.
Fifty Fifty found a great balance between pace and character. The tension never lets up, but we still get glimpses into the minds of the lawyers and the accused. And the alternating POVs build suspense without giving too much away.
Like others, I was unaware that this was 1) part of a series and 2) not a new release. I found that neither item made much of a difference to my enjoyment however. If you’re into legal thrillers and stories that mess with your head - this one’s for you.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the e- copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for gifting me a copy of this title in exchange for my honest review.
This one didn’t hit as well as some of the other Eddie Flynn books have in the past. This was slightly less conventional than Cavanagh’s previous titles and while it was compelling, I didn’t feel as invested with these characters as I normally do. The pace was also a bit slow for me. Three stars.

Fifty Fifty is another standout from Steve Cavanagh! I was completely hooked from page one. The courtroom drama, the tension between the sisters, and the meticulous detail behind the killer’s actions made for such an intense and gripping read. It’s chilling to think about how easily someone so dangerous could be hiding in plain sight.
I really appreciate that even though this is part of the Eddie Flynn series, it works perfectly as a standalone. I never felt lost or like I was missing key information, which is a true testament to Steve’s storytelling. That said, I’ve officially decided to start the series from the beginning—he’s quickly becoming a new favorite author of mine.
Thank you to Atria Books for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. I’m excited to continue diving into more of Steve’s work!

This grabbed me in from the very beginning. I love a good whodunnit mystery. The plot was perfect and the that were not what I expected!

I didn’t realize when accepting this widget that the book was part of a series, not a standalone. I also didn’t realize it was a rereleased book and not a new release. I got 20% in and decided that it really just wasn’t for me based on those things and the fact that it’s more of a police procedural rather than a thriller like I had thought from the description. I’m sure readers who have read other books in this series, enjoy police procedurals, and courtroom drama books will really love this book!
Thank you very much to the author and publisher for the opportunity to read and review.
