I received a copy of this audiobook from netGalley for a honest review.

I absolutely loved this book! Evelyn feels like she's missing something and realizes that something is a pet. All she can afford is the mystery pet. Will she be happy with what she gets? A wonderful storybook ride. I can't wait to get the book so I can see the pictures that go along with this story.

This is such a cute audiobook! I really like the narrator ans the sound effects. I think this would be a great book for kids who have trouble focusing on stories. It's short, interesting, and exciting to listen to.

Sniveling snails, this was a cute one!

Beth Ferry delivers a delightful, magical tale in Evelyn Witch Gets a Pet, and the audiobook narration by Kate Coventry was absolutely enchanting. She did an amazing job bringing the story to life, making it a fun listen for both kids and parents alike. My kids were completely entertained, laughing out loud at Evelyn’s antics.

This is definitely one I’d buy in book form as well—it’s the kind of story that’s just as fun to read together as it is to listen to. The illustrations are adorable, adding extra charm to the whimsical world of Evelyn and her quest for the perfect pet. There’s even a bit of humor and a classic temper tantrum thrown in for good measure!

A must-read (and must-listen) for any little witch—or wizard—who’s ever wanted a pet of their own!

Thank you to @netgalley and @macmillan.audio for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

As a K-6 Librarian I am always looking for books that will keep my students entertained, engaged, and can provide a worthy lesson. The narration was perfect and I can’t wait to read this to my littles and see the pictures!

Evelyn is the sweetest little witch who has to drum up all of her patience to wait for her perfect pet! The soundtrack is so calm and appealing as the narrator reads. I can see myself listening to the audiobook and turning the pages for the kids! I also see myself using this as a way to discuss what we can do when we feel anxious, and how can we have patience! The littles can get very excited!

Adorable and a must have for your classroom or library!

This book is adorable. It shows just how difficult it can be to take care of a pet . It was silly and clever. I enjoyed listening to it.

Love! Evelyn Witch can only afford the surprise pet so goes home with an egg hoping it hatches into something exciting. Great audio, narration, and sound effects! Thanks NetGalley!

Evelyn Witch Gets A Pet, written by Beth Ferry and narrated by Kate Coventry. In this book Evelyn realizes something is missing, and that something is the company of a pet. Evelyn goes to the pet store to get a pet, but pets are expensive! Evelyn picks the pet she can afford, but now needs to figure out what is in her egg, and how she can hatch it.
I enjoyed this book, and definitely recommend it to any young readers, especially those who love animals! Thank you to NetGalley and to the author, publisher, and narrator of this book for an ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Evelyn is a witch who just wants a pet, so she heads to the pet store, but all she can afford is a plain white egg. She's a little impatient, so she tries all the spells she knows as she waits to find out what her mystery pet will be. The text is rhyming at times, and the story is absolutely adorable and fun. My daughter loved it, and I'm sure we will be listening to it often! The narration was fantastic, and the whimsical music that accompanied it was perfect. Kate Coventry was able to bring Evelyn's story to life in such a vivid way!

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the ALC!

My little witch & I can’t get enough of this whimsical witchy children’s audiobook!

Thank you NetGalley & Macmillan Audio for a ALC of ‘Evelyn Witch Gets a Pet” written by @BethFerry, narrated by @KateCoventry 🖤

My magic obsessed 3yr old (I don’t know where she gets it 🤭😉) was thrilled to sit down and listen to this audiobook when I showed her the adorable cover. A little witch and a potentially cuddly critter! What more could a little girl ask for in a bedtime story! OH BOY did the Narrator deliver! This story was so fun and perfectly paced to hold my squirrelly toddlers attention but the whimsical music & cauldron bubbles are what really made this audiobook memorable.

It was an instant replay & one I know my little one will be asking for time and time again. We cannot wait to purchase the physical copy during the July release to enjoy the beautiful illustrations by Charles Santoso 🎨 along with this 5 star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ children’s audiobook!

Thanks for the magic! 🦄

A sweet story of a witch who wants a pet. Without enough money to purchase the most desirable ones at the shop, she chooses the mystery pet. The witch must be patient as she awaits the appearance of her pet.

A quick easy read/listen.

Thanks to Netgalley and MacMillan Audio for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Evelyn Witch Gets a Pet is an adorable early ages story by Beth Ferry, illustrated by Charles Santoso. Due out 8th July 2025 from Macmillan on their Roaring Brook Press imprint, it's 32 pages and will be available in hardcover, audio, and ebook formats.

This is such a cute story; young Evelyn has almost everything a witch needs: messy hair ✅, bubbling cauldron ✅, perfectly carved pumpkins ✅, but no pet! When she visits the shop, the only pet she can afford with her coins is the plain white egg. The egg doesn't hatch right away, so she takes a trip to the library for info (great messaging!). The egg is stubbornly still an egg, so she has to just exercise her patience and wait (another great message!).

The simple story is told in loosely rhyming freeform prose. It's written for 3-6 year olds, so the content is age appropriate (with the possible exception of pet adoption without thorough research, but given the target audience, they're not going to be adopting pets unilaterally), and it's *cute* and fun and lighthearted.

The audiobook is wonderfully narrated by Kate Coventry with additional music and background effects. It's a short book, so the audio track is only 8 minutes. It's a surprisingly good adaptation, and would work superbly for a read-along with the physical book for learning readers. The narrator has a young, neutral (Colorado? Pacific Northwest?) American accent with lots of enthusiasm and playfulness which adds a lot of fun to the read. It's a Macmillan Audio release, so sound and production quality is very high throughout.

Five stars. This would be an excellent choice for public/school/classroom/home library acquisition. It would also be excellent for learning-to-read or sight-impaired readers.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes

Evelyn Witch wants a pet, and she gets an egg from the pet store-- what kind of pet is this going to be? This is a cute, lively story with fun rhymes and an adorable narrator.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me listen to this audiobook

This book had one glaring flaw: the premise. As someone who volunteers for rescues and keeps fish, the world is full of people who get pets they aren’t prepared for. Best case scenario is someone who changes their life in significant ways to care for their pet. Worst case scenario is a high energy dog who is kept locked up all day long because his owner can’t provide. Or a goldfish that’s stunted because the tank is too small. Or a puppy that isn’t taught manners until it enters it becomes a teenager, and is hauled off to a shelter because it’s too much. The idea of getting an unknown mystery animal is horrendous.

I recognize this is a cute kids book and doesn’t really matter... but it perpetuates a problem that runs rampant in our society. There are enough good picture books out there that there is no reason to bring this one into my life, or the life of any children I know.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan audio for this audio ARC.
