When I requested an advanced copy of this book, I didn’t realize it’s a sequel! I actually didn’t realize until after I finished. So that being said, I think it stands very well on its own. I’m sure there was some character development and previous knowledge I missed out on, but I didn’t notice any large knowledge gaps. It may be worth checking out the first book, Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man, which is in the same world, but focused on different characters.
I found this story to be lovely and very fun. It was similar in vibes to the Bridgerton books, but the male love interest isn’t incredibly problematic and misogynistic, loved that switch up! In fact, the male love interest is disabled and badass and our main character, Miss Harrington is also anything but helpless. This book itched the scratch Bridgerton couldn’t quite get.
If you’re a fan of the “Who did this to you?” trope I’d recommend this book…the gender roles may or may not be switched. Again, did I mention our confident, ass-kicking, female main character?
This book had a lovely balance of adventure, romance, and humor. I would say the spice level was low for this one. There’s some steam, but nothing super graphic.
I listened to the audio of this book and thought the narration was great. I could very clearly tell the difference between characters which made it easy to get lost in the story.
I’d definitely recommend if you’re looking for a cozy mystery with a dash of romance!
Rated 3.75 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Hachette Audio & Violet Marsh for the chance to listen to this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was a fun little historical romance/mystery tale. I believe it's being presented as a standalone BUT there are quite a few places in the story where I think I would have had more context had I read the predecessor. Either way- it was an adventure tale (made silly by the animals- love that!) that reminds us that most men are conniving jerks- but not all.
The narrator did a lovely job. I would definitely listen to more from them.

I got about 42% through and it just was not for me. I had an ALC and despite trying a sample of the narrator's work I found her breathy style of speaking hard to focus on, making it difficult to connect with the story itself.
As for the story, it felt a little more slapstick than I prefer, leaning heavily on random pets and I was just not engaged enough to finish.
Would leave the review without a star rating, because DNF, but NetGalley doesn't allow that.

I binged this audiobook in one day! I love a good historical romance mystery and this one was such a delight. The “fashionable” roosters had me cackling 😂. The sweet and steamy romance was perfect. The found family heartwarming. The ignorance of Alexander’s parents and the society regarding his clubfoot had my blood boiling but I loved how Georgina cared for him with compassion not pity. Her protectiveness towards him tugged on my heartstrings.
The hint for the next book is giving me enemies to lovers and I cannot wait. Because this may be my first book from this author but it is most definitely not my last.
Thanks to Forever Publishing and Hatchette Audio for the ALC!

I thought this was really cute!
I typically do not prefer historical fiction but it depends on what it is and in the end this type of story that happens to take place in the past but doesn’t get bogged down in it is the type I enjoy. I came upon this audiobook from a post from the publisher and I was searching for something to listen to whilst I got a project completed so it came at the right moment.
It was marketed as “whimsical” and that’s exactly what it was.
I enjoyed the cozy feeling to it while still uplifting a strong FMC who was in a profession that would be very uncommon for a woman at the time. I love the strong willed character who got the job done and the breaking barriers of the time.
As far as the audiobook facet.. the Narrator Marisa Calin did a fabulous job. She had a lovely British accented voice and spoke clearly whilst at a good natural pace at the 1x speed.
I chose to listen at 1.5x speed and it was still very easily understandable at that speed. I also tried the 1.75x speed for a short bit and it was still understandable but at 2x speed it was too fast for me.
Lastly, I enjoyed the romance and cozy mystery genre combo! It was the second book I read in the last few days that had that combo and I think I’ll seek out more crossovers like these.
I am thankful to have gotten the audio ALC for free from Hachette Audio through NetGalley to read which gave me the opportunity to voluntarily leave a review.
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars
⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again

Another wonderful and enjoyable rom-com mystery. The witty banter between Georgina and Alexander was quirky and mystifying. It’s bringing the era to life as if you’re living it.

Loved this caper of a romance. Georgiana is the sister of an earl and spinster who is an antiquarian who digs for artefacts. Her cousin Percy usually takes the credit for all the work, since she won’t be taken seriously as a woman. But when she overhears her brother trying to broker a marriage for her to an unknown marquess, she’ll do her best to escape the situation. On top of that, her cousin has gone missing and she needs help figuring out what happened to him. Alexander is one of Percy’s friends, so he quickly volunteers to help, and we get a load of adventure as these two take on the town and beyond. Oh, and Alexander also happens to be the marquess that Georgiana is trying to avoid. He has his own problems with a father who hates him and tries to dictate his life, so he’s also trying to avoid an unwanted marriage. But of course, these two complement each other quite well, so it’s only a matter of time before they fall in love. Audiobook was excellent to listen to!

I thought this book was so delightful! This book, specifically the audiobook, was such a fun story that had me using every excuse to pop my headphones on and listen! I wasn't too sure at first about the narrator, but by the end of the story,y I honestly could not imagine anyone else portraying Georgina!
Georgina leads archaeological discoveries under the guise of her cousin Percy's name. Their duo is going smoothly until her cousin goes missing just as her brother begins pushing for her to marry a certain future duke...
Alexander Lovett has no warm feelings towards his parents; instead, trying to stop their meddling blackmail while trying to get him to marry. When his friend Percy's cousin seeks his help, he realizes just how much his and Georgina's lives are interconnected.
First of all, let me say that I loved all things Georgina - history extraordinar. There was so much to this story, from Georgina's knowledge to kidnapping to treason. It was silly, it was sweet, and it was serious. There was just the right amount of tension and romance to this mystery, and plenty of random pets thrown in the mix as well (who doesn't love a silly future duke causing havoc in England by making everyone own a pet chicken??)!
Thank you so much to Hachette Audio and NetGalley for letting me listen to this!!

I read this book not realizing it was a sequel to “Lady Charlotte Always Gets Her Man” - this book was a true delight as a stand alone! The characters are colorful and witty and sometimes down right mischievous in a lovable way.
The story is set in 1700 and our two main characters, Georgina and Alexander, have weather several socials season and are enjoying the spinster and bachelor life. Their families do not agree, lineage and image is to take priority!
Along side this story line, Georgina’s dear cousin Percy has gone missing and she is determined to find him and return him safe - she is soon to learn things are not what they seem.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for an early review audiobook.

This is an arc review of the audiobook.
Listening to a Regency (or temporal thereabouts) audiobook, preferably with a mystery and a romance, is a great escape for me on commute or whenever a bit of lightness is required. So I was really looking forward to this audiobook.
The narrator did a good job here, especially with such a multitude and diversity of characters: monkey, parrot, cat, dog, rooster, etc. among them. Also, the murmured dialogues came off very engagingly.
As to the story, having read the first book, I thought I knew what to expect, but the silliness of the humor was higher than in its predecessor. Also, the credibility of the plot was at times quite flimsy, even for a romcom. I did get distracted from the story, when wondering out loud about the “why?” and “it does not really make sense, does it?” and “yeah, but why…? “
So even for an escape listen (does this term even exist?) brace yourself to give in and think of England … eeeh, just don’t to take the plot to seriously and focus on the romance and enjoy the good narration.
Thanks, netgally for the copy. Opinions are my own.

Our Dear Miss H. Is on the Case by Violet Marsh has all the right ingredients—a clever heroine, a hero who actually appreciates her intelligence, and a solid narration by Marisa Calin. And yet… my mind kept wandering.
Georgina is exactly the kind of heroine I love—smart, capable, and not afraid to use her brain. Alexander is equally delightful because, instead of being threatened by her intelligence, he admires it. Their dynamic worked for me, and Calin’s narration added an extra layer of charm.
But the plot? It just didn’t hold my attention. I found myself zoning out more than once. It wasn’t bad by any means—just a little lackluster, the kind of book that’s enjoyable in the moment but doesn’t leave much of a lasting impression.

I really wanted to love this book. But as I was listening to the audiobook I found my mind wandering. I just wasn't attached to the characters and didn't want to know about them. The narrator did a fantastic job. This book just wasn't for me.

This is a review of the audio book, read by Marisa Calin.
Georgina is an antiquarian, but cannot publish under her own name because she's a woman. Her friend is Alexander. Georgia's brother tries to force her to marry, even going as far as locking her in her room. Alexander is under pressure to marry as well.
What I liked about the hook was it's a bit campy and there are a ton of Notable Pets.
The narration was not my favorite. The narrator does female and male voices just fine, but otherwise has a jarring cadence, or a steccato delivery. I wish netgalley would allow smaller intervals to adjust the speed other than 0.25.
Thank you to Forever for the copy of this book. Opinions are my own.

This was such a good book. I loved the story and the writing so much. The characters were great and the story flowed smoothly. Will definitely read more books by this author in the future.

What a funny and silly historical romance!
Narrator Marisa Calin has a huge job - there’s a large cast of characters with different ages, accents, and genders - including a couple of women disguised as men, even a talking parrot - so she is very busy. It works well, with enough changes of tone, pace, even volume to make it fun to listen to. The book is an absolute romp, and it did seem as if the narrator was enjoying herself - so she should!
This is not accurate historical fiction, it’s taking aspects of 1750s life - the posturing of the aristocracy, the indolence, the hypocrisy, and poking fun at them while also shining a light on how hard it was for women to have a career, or in Georgina Harrington’s case, get recognition for her work, or even live in her own house. Yes, there’s a mystery plot: archaeological dig, stolen helmet, missing cousin, kidnapping, smuggling, plan to overthrow the King, all to the backdrop of Georgina falling in love with the Alexander Lovett. He’s possibly a villain, the son of a Duke, is managing a disability and has all the derring-do she would wish for.
My advice? Buckle up, forget about historical accuracy and enjoy the rollicking adventures of Georgina and Alexander as they solve the mystery and get together. Bonus points for keeping track of all the ridiculous names.
Rounded up to 4 stars. Thank you Hachette Audio, Violet Marsh and NetGalley for the ALC. Opinions are my own.

Aww, this was a very cute romance. I enjoyed the mystery, the way the relationship progressed, and the history. It was all fun and fresh, which is hard to accomplish if you are an avid historical romance reader

4.5⭐️
Violet Marsh is quickly becoming one of my favorite histrom authors! I love how beautifully she blends together nuanced conversations, beautiful emotional depth, swoony moments and delectable tension, humor and banter, mystery, and a memorable cast of side characters that include the most cheeky and endearing furry side kicks.
If a histrom includes a bookish heroine who frequently dons trousers, you can bet your spectacles I’m going to read it. A woman in trousers who gets a double take from the hero is in my top 3 microtropes. I am simply feral for this trope and can’t get enough.
The entire cast is fabulous and I love how they support each other no questions asked. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. I was completely in Marsh’s thrall as I had to know what was in store for Georgina and Alexander next.
The audio was positively delightful and the narration fully immersed you in the story!

'Our Dear Miss H. is on the Case' is a historical, whimsical romance with an academic side story and a short of mystery to be solved by the characters as the prompt storyline.
The plot overall is pretty cute, with the characters being adorable and endearing and having chemistry between them that was aided by the melodrama of their love story. The latter was enjoyable and kind of steamy but never reached a 'boiling point', something that made me question why those scenes were there in the first place. Still, the romance was served feels, so that's that.
Also, the mystery was engaging for some time, though it took the passenger's seat midway through, as the book focused more on the romance.
However, the academic aspect, with the archeological excavations and the love for historical artifacts that Georgiana had, were refreshing to read and an innovative idea for a historical romance of this kind.
Finally, the production of the audiobook was perfect and the narrator did an amazing job!

This book was 3.5 starts for me. It was fun but was longer than I felt it needed to be. This book shows how hard it was to be a female, unmarried back in the time this book was set.. She did the work & had the ideas but didn’t get the credit for it. The narrator did an amazing job.

I did not realize this book was part of a series. I think if I had read the first book, I would have enjoyed this one even more. I did enjoy the audiobook narrator as well!
