From the very first page, this book draws you into its world with engaging prose, well-developed characters, and a compelling narrative. The author's storytelling is confident and immersive, weaving together themes that resonate long after the final chapter.

This would be a lovely book to add to your Homer library to reference whenever you may need a home herbal recipe to help with any ailment. It’s broken down into chapters and each chapter has a sub section to help with what you need so it’s easy to find everything. It is warm and inspiring to anyone wanting to do holistic healthcare.

Its amazing, I loved it. This book has it all from types of specific ailments, areas of the body, herbs, and recipes.
It's broken down by chapters so it is easy to find exactly what you want. It's a must have for any reference library and your go to book. The recipes are easy to follow, make and with ingredients that are easy to find. I have already tried some out. So whether you are a novice or herbal expert this book has something for everyone. I have been working with herbs for over 50 years and was quite impressed how through it was.
Thank you @Illustrata Books @aidahiggins @netgalley for allowing me to read this book.

Thank you so much for approving my request to read this book. I learned a lot from reading this and I am very grateful for the free supplementary reading materials!
As the title suggests, this book talks about a traditional home herbal apothecary. What I really like about the book is that the author just doesn't talk about natural healing and herbal medicine. She incorporates modern science and medicine and often stresses hygiene, prevention, living a healthy lifestyle. She doesn't claim "cures" that are otherwise so common in "therapeutic" magazines.
I really like the chapters that talked about asthma, the kidneys and liver, sleep. As someone who loves the quiet of the night and is always awake 'til the sun comes shining, I admit this has changed my perspective.
Additionally, I was quite surprised at the usefulness of ginger and peppermint. It's inspired me to go back to growing my own herbs.
I highly recommend this to gardeners, both seasoned and newbies, anyone who is interested in living a healthier lifestyle, foraging and understanding the impact of growing and using herbs.

"The Traditional Home Herbal Apothecary" by Aida Higgins is an excellent companion for anyone interested in herbalism, whether you're just beginning your journey or already deepening your knowledge. Structured thoughtfully by bodily systems - including sections dedicated to reproductive health, women's and men's health, respiratory care, digestion, and more - this book offers accessible, clearly explained recipes perfect for building your own home herbal apothecary.
One of the book's strengths is its approachability; the author has crafted recipes straightforward enough for beginners to confidently experiment with herbal preparations. However, as Higgins herself carefully notes, this resource is intended as a supportive guide rather than a comprehensive medical manual. It provides a valuable introduction to various herbs, but does not extensively cover specific dosages, interactions, or contraindications. Readers should approach herbal experimentation responsibly, using this book as a starting point rather than a replacement for professional medical consultation.
All in all, "The Traditional Home Herbal Apothecary" makes a wonderful addition to any herbal enthusiast’s library. Its practical guidance and clear organization can help you feel more empowered and inspired in crafting nourishing, therapeutic remedies right in the comfort of your own home. thank you to the author and publisher for this advance digital copy.

Book Review: The Traditional Home Herbal Apothecary by Aida Higgins
Rating: 4 Stars
As someone who has dabbled in natural healing for a while, I was thrilled to dive into The Traditional Home Herbal Apothecary by Aida Higgins. First off, can we talk about how stunning the cover is? It’s one of those books that you’ll want to display proudly on your shelf, inviting anyone who visits to pick it up.
Now, onto the content! This book is truly a gem for anyone curious about herbal remedies and holistic living. Aida Higgins has done a fantastic job of bridging the gap between ancient wisdom and modern practices. With over 300 herbal recipes at your fingertips, it’s perfect whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been crafting herbal remedies for years. From soothing teas to healing salves, each recipe is incredibly effective and surprisingly easy to follow.
One of the best aspects of this guide is how it delves deeply into the world of herbs. It isn’t just a collection of recipes; it's also packed with valuable insights on the properties of various plants and how to prepare them safely at home. Higgins's writing style is warm and inviting, making it a pleasure to read. You can genuinely feel her passion for herbalism in every page.
What I appreciate most is the way the book empowers you to take control of your health naturally. It covers everything from enhancing immunity to detoxing your body, all through natural solutions that have stood the test of time. There are practical tips on how to build your own herbal apothecary, making it accessible for everyone—whether you’re a complete novice or a seasoned herbalist.
The book also touches upon mental and emotional well-being, offering remedies that help reduce stress and improve sleep. In a world where we often feel powerless over our health, this book offers a refreshing path toward empowerment through natural healing.
If I had to pick one downside, it would be that the sheer volume of information can be a bit overwhelming at times. However, the clear, step-by-step instructions provided help ease any concerns about getting started.
Overall, I would highly recommend The Traditional Home Herbal Apothecary. It’s not just a book; it’s an invitation to explore the wonderful world of herbal medicine and reclaim your health in the process. Whether you're looking to treat common ailments or simply want to learn more about the healing properties of herbs, this book belongs in your home library. A solid four stars from me! 🌿✨
⚠️This review was written based on personal opinions and experiences with the book. Individual preferences may vary⚠️

A wonderful collection of herbs, not just from the West as usual but from all over the world. Divided by the body part it mostly applies to, the language is chatty and fun. I'd have liked more information on how to create the various cures, ie how do I do a salve? But there's plenty of information out there on it and this really is an amazing collection of herbs. I loved the section near the back on creating your herbal first aid kit, which was really interesting and brought the whole thing to within our reach nicely. I'm looking forward to reading more from Aida.

Clear and concise writing. This book covers a wide array of health ailments that are organized into intuitive categories, such as “Digestive Health,” “Cardiovascular Health,” etc. And in each section there are a large assortment of recipes, allowing for some flexibility if you grow your own herbs.
Thorough and yet concise. I would have liked to see an explanation of why some herbs not mentioned in the chapter are included in the recipes. But overall, this is a good beginner resource for learning which herbs help with which conditions, as well as how to prepare and combine them for optimal results.

The Traditional Home Herbal Apothecary is
a wonderful resource for taking a holistic approach to health. This guide reconnects us with herbal remedies to boast health and energy. Each chapter is structured efficiently by providing an overview of the particular area, advice on how to prepare and integrate the remedies and some background on applicable history and uses from cultures such as Native American, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese, and European herbalists.
There is an impressive amount of recipes which make it easy to incorporate into daily living that go beyond the standard set of teas, compresses and syrups. These include, ready for this:
Smoothies, chocolate bars, Truffles, Soups, Infused honey, Tinctures, Tonics, Capsules, Mock-tails, Spritzers, Sparklers, Latte, Popsicles, Gummies, Energy shots, Mousse, Bath bombs, Salads, Puddings, Sorbet, Sodas, broth, Compresses, Oils, Ear rinse/drops, Cooling mists, Steams, Hair growth serum, Creams, Gel Pads, etc.
Over the years I have read and studied countless works on herbal healing. I highly recommend this as a wonderful resource for literally everyone.
Prevention and healing is an essential knowledge for healthy living. This book is one that makes it easy to go back to, find a particular area and understand the how, why and what you can do. I say “easy” because it is clear that Aida has done her research yet doesn’t drag her knowledge on to the point where it takes forever to find what you’re looking for. I will be purchasing a copy for myself as well as for gifts.

Really interesting and well researched, an add on to natural wellbeing remedies that can be easily used in daily life.

This gave so many different tools and tricks to use that you can find in your pantry or garden! I plan to start using these asap

The information is presented in a clear, concise manner that makes it easy to search, find and understand the guidance Aida Higgins provides. As more and more information is released, herbal medicine presents as a reasonal, responsible alternate to prescriptions. Before you stop or start any treatment regime, you should check with your doctor. The treatments should complement and in some instances replace harsher chemicals.

This book read a lot like a cookbook. I think I epected it to be more reference and not cookbook but there is a lot of really good information in this book. I do like how it is broken down by body area/organ.

Firstly, thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an eARC of this book, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
If you're interested in learning about herbal remedies, then this is a great way to start. It's comprehensive and easy to use. A lot of the remedies have relatively accessible ingredients unlike some other books that I've picked up in the past. I appreciate that the book is arranged according to the type of health that you're trying to improve, but that there is quite the span of options given. There are soups, lemonades, teas, bath soaks, basically something for everyone. Obviously, if you're taking medication be careful that something won't conflict, but most of the remedies in here are easy things that you could incorporate into your life.

Great book with descriptions, explanations and easy to follow directions. I would recommend a physical copy. Easier to make notes on and you don't have to worry about shut off time, or getting anything on a tablet/device.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for a fair review.

This was easy to follow and understand.
I know next to nothing about herbal remedies and even I could do some of these.
I got this as a digital copy and I do think it would be much easier to use/follow if I had a physical copy of it.
I can’t wait to try some of the recipes.

I try not to take medication whenever I have pain. I try all the natural remedies I know and I even try to rest because sometimes the body just needs that.
With this book I found many natural and easy-to-make recipes that will help me even more in my goal of not taking too much medication.
I loved the recipes for asthma and hormonal issues.
Thnaks netgalley and Aida Higgins !!

I'm a trained herbalist so I am always interested in any new books that make natural remedies safe and easily accessible to people in day to day life.
This book is a great choice for anyone with no experience in herbal healing. It's basic in a good way with the sections being broken down into hormonal health, cardiovascular etc. Within them is an explanation of the system, traditional treatments and a basic set of common herbs/spices. Then each section has recipes for everything from teas, tinctures, balms, soups and more using said herbs.
Whilst all books have a section at the front about herbs not replacing medications, see a doctor etc, for me the one thing stopping this from being a five star is the fact there are no contraindication sections. It would have been ideal if for each herb there was a small section regarding specific illness/med interactions.
It is however great as a basic guide for beginners, many of the herbs and ingredients used are cooking ones which makes it accessible. The recipes are great and easy to make with only a few steps, allowing you to start working with herbs for wellness and basic health needs.
Thank you netgalley for the ARC, I will definitely recommend this book to those with a new interest in healing herbs. I will also share on amazon on release day 🙂
