Having loved the first two books in Tracy March's Suddenly Smitten Series, I was very much looking forward to seeing how Trent and Cyn's journey mapped out. And whilst it was sweet, romantic and both were endearing characters, unfortunately it just didn't grab me in the same way Cole and Liza and Paige and Lane's stories did.
"Someone who captivates me with every little thing about her. Someone who makes me want to be better than I am - perfect for her."
We've met Cyn and Trent before, although The Marriage Match can be read alone. Cyn's the down-to-earth, fun, ex-goth daughter of a librarian and preacher, Trent’s the wealthy, thoughtful, unaffected, resort tycoon. When his Gran, 'The Queen' decides it's time for him to settle down, she tasks, and incentivises, Cyn with finding him his bride whilst creating a marketing campaign for the resort at the same time, Bachelor style. But with a mutual attraction and Cyn's need to complete The Queen's task, it's not necessarily going to be plain sailing.
"I got really carried away. I blurred the lines between on-camera and off-camera and went way too far."
Together they had a lovely chemistry and you can't not want them to find their way to one another, but whilst certain parts of the story held my interest, mainly the growing feelings between Trent and Cyn, I must confess on the whole it struggled to hold me captive. If I'm honest, I dislike reality TV in real life, so this may have contributed to why. Plus, certain phrases began to niggle; 'for sure' and 'for real', just seemed too well used. However, the last 30% was what I'd have liked to have seen much earlier and the ending was lovely, plus seeing our previous couples make small appearances, Paige in particular, added content. Tracy March has wrapped the series up nicely, I just needed a little bit more earlier on.
