Enright's writing is fabulous, but she also explores difficult relationships and the darker side of life, so this wasn't always an enjoyable read. She is however a consummate storyteller, and I found the depiction of each family member's story compelling. My favourite sections were those set in Ireland, particularly in the 80s, and I think she captured rural/Irish life very well.
