This story centers around the Chase family: Maddie, a pediatric nurse, Cole, a neurosurgeon, their daughter Ellie and their twin sons, Lucas and Jayden. Things have been a bit rough for them lately. Cole has been working really long hours, often coming home late at night, leaving Maddie with all of the responsibility. Ellie has a traumatic secret that she’s keeping from her parents. The twins are just confused by the constant arguing in the home.

Maddie’s main worry is if her husband is having an affair, with his long hours and ignoring her for his phone. Soon, she starts getting messages - does she know where her husband is? Does she realize she needs to be careful? Does she know her husband is planning to kill her?

Does the pretty, young trainee who has glommed onto Cole have anything to do with these threats? Is she also the reason that he’s been coming home late? At first I thought this was the basic story of an affair, but it actually becomes a dark story full of suspense. Since the book is written from the perspectives of the characters, you get a good look into their minds and what drives them to do the things they do. I feel like the synopsis doesn’t do the book justice, as you’re in for more than a typical domestic thriller. 4.5 stars!

An exquisitely written book, I loved the ending and felt this would be a perfect book for a book club read. My first by this author and won’t be my last. Thanks for the early access

This talented author has written a page turner. Red herrings kept me guessing. Perhaps a little too much information at times…that being said, this is intrigue, mystery, and suspense….this book is difficult to put down…I guessed the ending, but it was not easily accomplished. Thanks Netgalley

What a roller coaster of a ride. I truly did not know which direction the book was heading in. It has some disturbing parts and a truly shocking ending.

One happy family: two parents and three children. They have everything they need, but do you get what you see or is it a gold plated facade you are dealing with?

It seems like someone is scraping off some of that golden paint, putting Cole in a bad light and making his wife Maddie doubting everything he says or does. But who is the one with the scraper in hand?

Who can you really trust and who is a wolf in sheep's clothing?

Some author's writing style is like trying to fit a square plug into a round hole, other's is like a warm knife sliding through butter. And when a book is fluently written, it adds to the reading pleasure. If you are wondering how I would describe this author's style, I can tell you it is like a swan gliding through the water of a calm lake. :)

I liked the characters except for one, Cole's dad. The others, even though some of them were not very nice, I understood their motives and that's why I can feel sympathy up to a certain level.

Then comes the ending... it's utterly chilling, I can tell you.

As per usual, a splendid book by this author. 5 stars

Thank you
