A charming and suspenseful small-town romance. One is quickly rooting for the mother and daughter to find happiness and a resolution to their problems. The difference between American and Australian or New Zealand words for things is also entertaining. I especially enjoyed chill box instead of cooler. A fun visit to another country that sort of speaks my language. An interesting cast of characters with a delightful ending. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

I enjoyed reading about Libby and Georgia as they finally found a place to call home after running scared for so long. Libby's character growth especially was lovely to see. However, I never really felt a romantic connection between her and Oliver. It felt more like just base attraction rather than an emotional connection, which was made worse by the fact I didn't find Oliver a very likeable character--he is self-centered and selfish through much of the book, including hiding the truth of why Libby has been tracked down for some time even after his sister rightfully chews him out for not telling Libby. I think I would have liked the story more if the romantic subplot had been completely removed and the story focused just on Libby learning to trust and depend on her friends.

I will not post this review elsewhere, as I feel I may not have been the right audience for this book.

Quite a sweet, sad story mainly set in New Zealand. I quickly got a picture in my mind of a quaint little town where everyone knows everything and everybody. I enjoyed this one. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

This wasn’t for me. The writing was stiff and wonky most of the time and the story was in no way entertaining enough to keep my attention. I’ll refrain from posting my review elsewhere as it may work for others.

Libby Preston has discovered a town where no one knows her secret. In the small, rural community of Owatura on New Zealand’s South Island, she hopes to escape her past and provide her young daughter with a normal life. However, as in many compelling stories, plans can come crashing down at any moment.

In this heartwarming novel, Libby learns about the power of love and community while she and her daughter continue to run from the Bad Man. Libby has promised not to lie to her daughter, but as Georgia grows, so do the questions she asks. The story features a slow-burn romance with a local and friendships that develop for both Libby and her daughter, Georgia. With many humorous situations involving a seven-year-old girl, the narrative remains engaging. The well-paced plot and relatable characters kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next.

This romantic suspense novel is set in a small town that will captivate you until the very end. This was my first read by T.J. Beach, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

"One wrong word is one too many. Tell no one."

*Escape to the South Land* is a romantic suspense novel set in a small town. It follows the story of Libby and her daughter, Georgia, as they try to escape the past. Libby dreams of giving Georgia a normal life, one where no one knows her secret. In Owatura, New Zealand, she discovers the power of love and community. But when a detective uncovers a lead about her past, she faces a difficult choice—run again or trust the people she’s come to care about and stand her ground.

This was a heartwarming read with a touch of suspense. A slow-burn romance, friendship, and humor made the story engaging, and the well-paced plot and likable characters kept me turning the pages. I finished it fairly quickly!

Overall, I really enjoyed the book and the characters. It was a pleasure to follow Libby, Georgia, and Oliver’s journey. The story also gave me strong Virgin River vibes. I haven’t read the book, but I’ve watched the TV series, so my comparison comes from that. 🙂

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of ESCAPE TO THE SOUTH LAND (Romantic Suspense) by T.J. Beach in exchange for an honest review. Libby Preston and her daughter are settling into their lives in the town of Owatura, New Zealand. In fact, Libby is so comfortable, she agreed to star in a local musical. However, as Libby comes out of her shell, her secrets emerge, as well. Oliver Leyendecker is sick of everyone’s expectations and thoroughly done with his savior complex. However, Oliver just can’t get over his fascination with Libby even though she’s sending out damsel in distress signals. When his mistake brings trouble from Libby’s past into town, Oliver has to temporarily resume his savior status, but the more time he spends with Libby, the more he likes her. Can he convince Libby to stay and fight or will Oliver lose Libby to flight?

I liked the book. It was an enjoyable read with likable characters and a HEA.
