This was a wonderful, well-thought out, and interesting book all about cupcakes - yum! I really liked the design of the book - the font, the photos, all of that made for a beautiful cookbook. I am very excited to look for this book on bookshelves when it releases so I can add it to my ever-growing collection of cookbooks. I would recommend this be added to anyone who likes baking - cupcakes or otherwise! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This book has some great detailed step by step information about mixing, ingredients and supplies to have on hand for making the cupcakes. What I didn't care for is that all the cupcakes are based of off 4 recipes. Then from these recipes you just add one of two more things to make it a different flavor. That seems to me like they are catering to bakers in a rush rather than bakers that want to make the best cupcake possible. There were a few flavors that fell flat for me because of this technique but all in all I am sure a great cupcake will be made.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc.

From the start to finish, I liked every recipe, every cupcake perfectly suited for every occasion.

The author explains very nicely what we need, all the techniques and all the utensils, before she starts with the recipes, which is very helpful.

All recipes are presented with simple and thorough instructions, explained in detail.
I liked every recipe and I can't wait to try them all.

I give this book 5 stars.

Let Them Eat Cupcakes by Gabrielle Cote was such a fun read much like the book title and the cover!

This book is like a small encyclopedia of cupcakes -- there are 100 cupcake recipes and categorized by occasions, seasons, classics/tradition and etc. It is very well-organized, easy to read, and has pretty much all the cupcakes flavors you can think of that are not too-out-of-ordinary. All the ingredients the recipes call for are pantry-ready, recipes themselves are easy to follow, there are many photographs of the cupcakes for visual learners, and the book includes many recipes of fillings and such. As you read through, the book makes you want to run to kitchen and start baking!

The book is for every level and yet will have you look like a pastry chef as long as you follow the recipes as written. So many classic and fun recipes to try and none of them overstimulates you or have you give up even before start baking. If you are looking for a new cupcake cookbook to own, highly recommend Let Them Eat Cupcakes! This will not disappoint.

Book Review: Let Them Eat Cupcakes by Gabrielle Cote

Rating: ★★★★☆

When I picked up Let Them Eat Cupcakes: 100 Cupcake Recipes to Rule Them All by Gabrielle Cote, I wasn’t just looking for another baking book; I was on a quest for the ultimate cupcake recipes, and boy, did this book deliver! The title cleverly nods to the infamous phrase, “Let them eat cake,” and in this case, it’s all about the cupcakes—those whimsical, delightful morsels that have taken the dessert world by storm.

Cote invites us to step into a world where cupcakes reign supreme, overthrowing the mundane desserts that often populate our tables. With 100 recipes designed for every occasion, from festive holidays to intimate gatherings, this book is like a royal decree for dessert lovers everywhere. Whether you’re prepping for New Year’s Eve or a summer garden party, there’s a cupcake recipe here to suit your needs. I appreciated how the recipes are grouped by themes, making it easy to find what you’re looking for without flipping through endless pages.

One of the first things that caught my eye was the stunning cover—it's absolutely delightful and sets the perfect tone for what’s inside. Cote's approach is refreshing; she balances classic cupcake flavors with some truly inventive options. Many of the recipes share similar base batters and buttercreams, which is fantastic for anyone looking to get creative after mastering the basics. This makes it feel less daunting for novice bakers like myself, while still offering enough variety to keep seasoned bakers engaged.

The instructions are straightforward and easy to follow, which is always a plus in my book. I found myself flipping through the pages with excitement, especially when I came across the drool-worthy photos that accompany each recipe. They’re not just pretty pictures; they’re like little invitations to start baking!

Overall, Let Them Eat Cupcakes is a solid addition to any baker's library. It’s not just a collection of recipes; it’s an invitation to embrace your inner baking monarch. So don your apron, grab your whisk, and get ready to join the cupcake revolution with this charming and inspiring cookbook. I can’t wait to try out more recipes and let my creativity run wild!

This cookbook is filled with elegant, classy cupcake designs that all sound incredibly delicious. All the recipes come from the author’s bakery in Southern Maine, and it shows! She has a cupcake for every occasion, from birthdays to bridal showers and everything in-between!

The recipes were easy to follow. I liked the bases of most were in the front. It helped me feel confident even when a recipe seemed more complicated to see it was building off of something I was sure I could do. The photos are gorgeous. I had never considered pipping my batter into tins but that is totally going to be my new go to.

Cupcakes are my favorite thing to bake so I was excited to review this cookbook. Unfortunately it fell a bit flat for me. I can understand the allure of using a couple of base recipes. However, adding just an extra ingredient or two will not give the pop of flavor each individual recipe needs. The cotton candy cupcake with a strawberry base especially bothered me. There are better cupcake cookbooks available.

With this cupcake cookbook everyday can be a special day with cupcakes. Cupcakes are better than cake because they come all contained. No cutting of a cake or worrying about the layers sliding off. These cupcakes are some of the prettiest I have seen. You can bake cupcakes and add a filling, ice them with delicious frostings, and decorate them beautifully. Pick a flavor for your cupcake from the many different flavors and types. Vegan and gluten free included. Then pick a frosting recipe to go with them. All types of buttercreams to chose from. Then there are special cupcakes for all those occasions such as weddings, birthdays, or for a beautiful spring day. There's even cupcakes for the puppy! I think I want to try the blackberry crumble cupcake. It looks so delicious and not long difficult directions. So if you like making cupcakes, pick up this cookbook and start baking today.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Cider Mill Press for the opportunity to read the advanced reader copy.

I requested this book because it's name and cover were so appealing, I was happy to discover that to be the same about the entire book! The photographs were lovely and the recipes were very easy to follow.

I really enjoyed how the author had categorized the many recipes found in this book. It was sectioned by holidays, event, season, etc. I haven't seen a book separate recipes like this before and I found it to be very helpful. All of the desserts looked amazing and were very well presented. I would absolutely recommend this book.

There’s a new cupcake baking cookbook coming out in April 2025!

“Let Them Eat Cupcakes: 100 Cupcake Recipes to Rule Them All” is by Gabrielle Cote (Cider Mill Press, April 8, 2025)

Chapters include:

Essential Techniques & Tools
Fundamental Recipes: Buttercreams & Batters
Weddings & Other Special Occasions
Big Fish Classics
Modern Twists on Tradition
Spring
Summer
Fall
Winter
Holidays
For the Kids
The Weddings chapter offered a delicious sounding champagne cupcake recipe, and there’s a lovely recipe for Bridal Cupcakes. I giggled when I saw that she’d included a Pupcakes recipe – perhaps we’ll celebrate my puppy’s housetraining with a pupcake treat. (Hopefully soon!)

There are some quirky cupcakes, like Coachella Cupcakes, Whenevah Cupcakes, and Heiress cupcakes.

The “Modern Twists” chapter offers Cannoli cupcakes, Bananas Foster cupcakes, S’mores cupcakes, and Creme Brulee cupcakes. I’ve promised my boyfriend I will make him the Key Lime cupcakes soon. You can really tell that the author had fun creating these fun recipes!

I really enjoyed previewing the seasonal cupcake recipes, such as Strawberry Rhubarb cupcakes and Blackberry Crumble cupcakes in Spring; watermelon cupcakes and Margarita cupcakes in summer; and Maple Pecan or Caramel Apple cupcakes in fall. (Yes, you guessed correctly – there’s a recipe for Pumpkin Spice cupcakes!)

For winter, there are recipes for orange & cardamom cupcakes, eggnog cupcakes, and pear and ginger cupcakes. There are peppermint cupcakes for Christmas and New Year’s cupcakes to celebrate the end of the year.

It’s nice that this cookbook offers a recipe for vegan buttercream, and for vegan and gluten-free batter.

Measurements are given in metric and imperial (cups and grams).

The photography is lovely, the recipes inventive and cheerful, and I can’t wait to bake my way through this cupcake baking book!

If you love cupcakes, but you aren't a professional pastry chef, this book is for us!

Beautiful and timeless cupcake recipes that are easy to follow and don't have a lot of weird ingredients.

There are 100 different cupcake recipes and they are all exceptional. We started with the vanilla and they were moist, full of vanilla flavor and loved by the grands.

This is one of those books you keep and pass on to your daughters.

Everything looked delicious and I was in heaven! Can I immediately eat them all? Honestly, baking isn't one of my strongest methods, but I want to give it another shot when I see delicious recipes like these. The pictures were all vivid and eye-catching, while the recipes were straightforward and sounded like they'd be mouthwatering. I can't wait to try some!

This is a lovely book of cupcake receipes. It gives good tips and instructions for getting the best results. However most of the receipes are for 36 cupcakes which is a large batch if you are only cooking them for 1 household. If you are cooking them for a party it is fabulous. Also she does not tell you how to create the designs in buttercream, there is a fabulous pink flower design and it just says apply buttercream to cupcake, it does not say what nozzle to use or how to recreate it. It would be good to know if you could half the 36 cupcake sponge receipes so that there is less waste in both batter and cake. I don't think every household has 3 cupcake baking tins if you are a homebaker. There are a few receipes for 18 and 24 cupcakes but it would be good to make all of the receipes you are buying the book. I love the receipes but the amount of cakes the receipes are for rules me out buying this book.

This is a fantastic book for people who want to make specialty cupcakes. I must say that these recipes beat the local cupcake shop in my town that does a huge business.

This book begins with the basics including tools and materials. But the really special parts are the multiple recipes for buttercreams, the tips on creating beautiful colors for the buttercreams, the batter recipes, and then all the incredible recipes for different occasions and seasons. Many of the cupcake recipe names wouldn't mean much to you but some will make you want to try them - Cannoli cupcakes, Bananas Foster cupcakes, Creme Brulee cupcakes, S'mores cupcakes.

The book does assume that you know how to pipe the buttercream frosting, but the fillings and decorating ideas are really extraordinary. Photography is wonderful. If you want to bake cupcakes professionally, this is a book you're going to want to consider purchasing.

What's not to like about cupcakes and this book/cookbook made me hungry for more from the very first phot/recipe! There is a recipe for every occasion and for every craving. From fairly basic and well known flavours to more exciting and interesting ones, this book will have you cooking and experimenting. And you can then enjoy the tasty creations yourself and with you family and friends. YUM!

Thank you NetGalley and Cider Mill Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
