In truth this book is not very good! It is a compendium of many essays penned by Wen Stephson over the past 7 or 8 years, and each essay is really just a review of one or more of the books that Mr. Stephson had recently read. And in almost every essay the author's two bugbears are totalitarianism and climate change. And Stephenson's mantra on global warming is that (1) four-fifths of the "permanent" sea ice in the Artic has melted and this is causing sea level to rise, (2) desertification is happening at an alarming rate, and (3) climate catastrophes are fast growing in number and severity. In fact, the author has a great number more concerns, but it is these three that he repeatedly emphasizes. And Wen Stephson's main point on totalitarianism is that the only thing worse than a climate catastrophe is a climate catastrophe and Fascism. And the author contends that Fascism is spreading in America.

The main problems with the authors assertions regarding climate change is that he has never checked his facts. According to NASA's satellite data sea level has risen a meager 1.8 inches over the last 30 years, barely enough to get your shoes and socks wet. And these same NASA satellites are showing that our planet is greening, and its deserts are shrinking, because CO2 is an important plant fertilizer, Plus, the annual deaths from all climate catastrophes over the past century have actually declined by 95%.

Turning to Totalitarian movements worldwide the political Zeit Geist is moving to the right, from its former left leaning tilt, but this shift is still far away from fascism. People on the center right calling center left politicians communists is mostly meaningless and naming President Trump a fascist is equally vapid.
