This book picks up after the attempts on Alex's life and primarily focuses on her emotional and spiritual recovery. We also see glimpses into JT's crumbling life and business while he works on world domination. The pacing felt slightly off to me, and much of the language surrounding recovery was simplistic. This isn't necessarily a bad thing - it's just that if you're already familiar with AA and the twelve steps, it feels repetitive. It was good to see Alex begin to grow into herself, and learn to recognize her trauma and let it inhabit her without letting it overwhelm her. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys fast-paced urban fantasy with a focus on the main character's inner life and struggles. It didn't quite click with me, but overall it was a good read!
