Runaway from Perry Lambert is a honest portrayal of a young man who defied the odds and came out of it all a successful musician.
Each chapter is short, only a page or two and each one is appropriately named. The first one for example is titled Jail Baby and details the circumstances around how he was born.
His mom had his sister Teisha at a young age. After this both parents turn to crack cocaine, which results in his sister Shaperryia being born a crack baby. His mom then turned to prostitution and when she was 3 months pregnant with the author she got in a van with Garry Ridgeway the green River killer and lived to tell the tale!
Perry was born behind bars as his mom was arrested for prostitution and drug possession. From there Perry details how chaotic his first five years of life were.
His mom eventually started selling drugs and was really good at it. She taught her children how to cut, bag and sell drugs as well so that they would always have a way to fend for themselves.
After a string of crappy foster homes and alternative schools he lands with a family that changed everything. They supported and encouraged his love of rapping and singing while encouraging him to stay in school and up his grades.
The book ends abruptly but I'd like to think that's because Perry still has so much to share with us. This is an inspiring book about staying true to your dreams and achieving them no matter what the odds.
Special thanks to Perry Lambert for sharing your story with Bookbuzz and NetGalley. I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion and review.

Runaway is a raw and deeply personal journey into the life of Big Bur, peeling back the flashy exterior of fame to reveal a story of struggle, resilience, and redemption. From a rough upbringing to the heights of success, his autobiography doesn’t shy away from the hard truths, making it both gripping and inspiring. What really stuck with me was how honest and unfiltered his storytelling felt—like sitting down with an old friend who’s finally ready to tell you everything. If you think you know Big Bur, think again—this book is a great read.

WHEW. This book is a wild ride from start to finish, and let me tell you—I was HERE FOR IT. 🚀 Runaway isn’t just another celebrity tell-all; it’s raw, real, and packed with the kind of jaw-dropping moments that make you gasp out loud. Big Bur lays it all out—his struggles, his mistakes, his hustle—and you can’t help but root for him the whole way. I laughed, I got misty-eyed, I even had to take a moment to process some of the truth bombs he drops. If you love a story that punches you in the gut and lifts you right back up, grab this one ASAP. 💥📖🔥
