Clear your day because once you start reading this, you won't be able to put it down until you know the truth!
Lucas and his wife, Julia, are about to have their first baby, a little girl they plan to call Sophia. They are a young couple who are struggling, but determined, to make it in LA on their own. Lucas has lost his job but is terrified to tell Julia, so he is doing ride shares when she thinks he's at the office. About to head home, Lucas decides to pick up one more fare, Damon, who promptly holds a gun to Lucas' head and orders him to drive.
What happens next is insane! As the night goes on, Lucas battles with staying calm on the road, as he drives Damon to several locations, responding to Julia's messages without alerting her to what's going on, alluding the police, who Damon keeps calling and staying alive!
The writing and the characters of Lucas and Damon are utterly brilliant! Their personalities, the tension but also the rapport between them, an older man and a young man, about to become a new Dad, the delicacy of the bond they form and the games they both play. One of the most gripping books you'll ever read, and the ending! OMG! Everything you thought was happening got turned upside down in one sentence!
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Steve Frech and HQ for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I took me a fair while to really get in to this book. I couldn’t understand what was happening or why, but then it clicked into place. It was a thrilling read and I grew to love the baddie! Both main characters were well described and interesting, and the plot and the writing were brilliant. It’s one of those where you can’t get to the end quick enough to find out what happens. A great read, and it would make a fabulous film. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers.

After reading The Good Husband last year, I was thrilled to receive an ARC for Steve Frech's upcoming book. The chapters alternate between Lucas and Damon. Both characters have depth and the plot was well executed. From the beginning, you feel the desperation and suspense in Lucas' perspective. I continued to root for Lucas to survive the night. This book is fast paced and full of action. I highly recommend for anyone that enjoys the thriller genre.
Thank you NetGalley and HQ for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Lucas and Julia are about to become parents, but there’s something Lucas hasn’t told his wife. Two months ago, he lost his job and has been secretly working as a rideshare driver in a desperate attempt to make ends meet. But that’s about the be the least of his problems. One evening he picks up a passenger in the Hollywood Hills. The man, Damon, puts a gun to Lucas’s head, and tells him to drive.
No Turning Back is a quick read, perfect for a beach day or a quick flight. It starts at a quick pace, and though it slows down around the middle, something big happens and it's off to the races again. I do wish we'd been given a reason for Damon to need to kidnap an Uber driver, rather than drive himself.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for the advanced copy.

Be prepared to buckle up for a terrifying ride, literally. You’ll spend a few life threatening hours in a ride-share car with Lucas. His passenger, Damon, will be making several stops on his trip. The tension of the plot never lets up, it was like a double espresso shot on my nerves. I held my breath through each harrowing event. I always look forward to Frech’s new novels and this one didn’t disappoint. If you enjoy action thrillers you’ll love this one.

Damon has a list of people he intends to kill, and needs a driver. He tells Lucas his family is in danger if he doesn’t follow instructions.
I read and love " The Good Husband" and have been looking forward to the next Steve Frech thriller!
I am a big psychological thriller fan and expect the unexpected’
I wasn’t anywhere close as the unexpected was definitely unexpected!!!
At first I was going along on the ride until I found out why Damon was out to kill these people. As I was reading I am sure I was holding my breath for fear as to what was going to happen. It indeed was a fast and actually an also very sad read!
Want to thank NetGalley and HQ Digital for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for May 8, 2025

This is a solid thriller, a smart likeable hero with good values, finds himself forced to be part of someone else's murder plot. Lots of action but in a readable way and I started to care about the bad guys, a few twists. This is a story about what you would do for the ones you love and is there any justice? I enjoyed it.

A fast paced thriller read with a great plot and good characters. I was involved in the storyline from the beginning until the great ending.
Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this ARC which I can thoroughly recommend.

Wow, this book sure took me on a wild ride! I could not wait to find out what was going to happen next. That ending definitely surprised me!

It’s late and an exhausted Lucas considers just one more ride as he drives the LA rideshare scheme. He’s desperate for the small change it offers in tips as he’s not yet told his beloved wife Julia, pregnant with their daughter already christened Sophie, that he has lost his job. So, he accepts the fare and drives quite a way out of LA into the Hollywood Hills to collect his passenger. This is a decision he’ll live to regret as he picks up Damon who has an agenda. Lucas is in for the ride of his life or is that for his life and everyone he cares for?
This is so good. I really like the style the author chooses to tell this story as it’s sparse and unembellished which I think highlights the desperation of Lucas‘s position. You feel the electric tension as it’s a heart in your mouth drive. The chapters alternate between this situation and Lucas and Julia‘s story which works so well as it further reinforces the present day danger. Theirs is a real love story; they meet as teens at the local pool and eventually find their way to each other and this also enhances the desperation of the situation in the car. You root for Lucas, I will him to survive the night for his wife and their future child and ponder Damon’s motives.
The conversations between Lucas and Damon are fraught and angry, there’s panic and fear for both of them. However, in between the action they’re also revealing on both sides. There’s love and protection being a driving force behind everything that occurs on this night you’ll never forget.
It’s fast paced throughout but it builds in stress levels all round, it’s exciting, suspenseful, so tense and full of exhilarating action packed movie worthy scenes and you feel Lucas‘s exhaustion and desperation. However, the author isn’t done we’re in for even more shocks! There’s a really good final twist and justice is served.
Overall, this is a really good thriller which is hard to put down. The two central characters are both very interesting and have depth. Recommended to fans of the thriller genre.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to HQ for the much appreciated early copy in return for an honest review.

The story is packed with high stakes, fast-paced action, and a level of suspense that will have you turning the pages late into the night.Steve Frech does a fantastic job building tension, and his writing style really pulls you in. The characters are well-developed, and the plot is smartly executed. However, there's one big question I couldn’t shake, and it left me a bit puzzled by the story's logic. Spoiler Alert – the main character relies on a driver to take him around during his plot to execute his plans. The whole time, I kept thinking, “Why can’t he just drive himself?” It seems like an odd decision, considering he could have just as easily handled the driving himself, especially in a situation where speed and flexibility were so important.
Thanks to NetGalley for advance copy

I am a fan of Steve Frech and this one did not disappoint! Fast-paced, I loved the plot. Can’t wait to read more by him.

What a great thriller and unique story – it had me sucked in from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. I could not wait to see what Damon, the gunman, had in store for Lucas, what would happen during the night, and if either would survive. I highly recommend this one!

Thank you, HQ for providing the copy of No Turning Back by Steve Frech. I loved how the action started right away and was interspersed with the story of Lucas and Julia’s relationship. The fast pace kept me on the edge of my seat and there were plenty of surprises too. If you’re looking for a fast and furious book, you can’t go wrong with this one. Steve Frech is one of my favorite authors and I loved this book, ut teh ending went on a little too long for me. ! 4.5 stars rounded up to 5

One of my most anticipated reads of 2025! Told in 'one shot' storytelling format, this was the most tense I've been reading a thriller in a long time. The author immediately set the stakes high, drew me in, then proceeds to make me so stressed, I order enough Mexican takeout for a family of four.
Lucas is a young man with a shameful secret that's marring what should be one of the happiest times of his life. He and his wife are about to become first-time parents, but he lost his job two months ago. Refusing to cause his wife any stress, he has been quietly working as a ride share driver to keep them insured. After dropping off his last fare of the night, one more request comes in. Lucas reluctantly takes it, hoping that the Hollywood Hills location will net him a big tip.
He should have declined.
Because his passenger Damon has a list of men he's going to kill. And he needs Lucas's help to do it. It's the quintessential moral dilemma--stand by and allow strangers to die as long as it keeps the ones you love safe, or attempt heroics and possibly cost those dearest to you their lives?
Expertly crafted characters, a genuine, heart-wrenching dilemma, and just damn good storytelling. Look for this one May 8, 2025, from HQ Publishing. Thank you so much to the publisher for my early copy.
