Barry Katz's Practical Green Remodeling has a lot of great ideas and information when it comes to sustainable remodeling. If you have a large project coming up, it isn't bad to check out. Unfortunately, as costs have skyrocketed, much of the pricing information is out of date.

This book is packed with information about green building materials, costs, why to be green in your remodeling, etc. It's not a how-to and it's also not for low budget folks in my opinion. There are lots of before and after pictures that are really gorgeous, but they are for BIG projects that cost a lot of money. We bought our house for $2,000 25 years ago (I found out the owner was letting it go for back taxes of $1,600 and offered him $2k for it) and I recently bought a very small fixer-upper for our oldest child for $4,000 (paid back to me at $200 a month for 20 months). We're very interested in green remodeling but on a tiny budget since we practice a debt-free lifestyle. I'm much more interested in inspiration showing how someone repurposed boards or made a sink out of something nontraditional, plus info on how to choose nontoxic flooring and such. If you have a high budget, this will be a great resource. If you don't, it will still provide good info and nice eye candy. :)
