Charming Bernhardian novel about a former adjunct professor’s dismal New Year’s Eve, with attention paid to the scrambling of the mind done by academia and male internet self-improvement culture. Totally great!

The narrator’s voice is a very fun melange of pretension and low-brow culture (musings on Deleuze, Philadelphia, and the meme of John Lennon walking weird)—for fans of Cesar Aira, Adam Erlich Sachs, and the midpoint between Pnin and a Ben Lerner novel!
