Sergeant Bolan was a weapons specialist and sniper. He earned the name of the Executioner. While in Vietnam, his father has a heart attack. With his health declining he cannot return to his job. He is forced to take out a loan from the Mafia. Bolan is called to the Chaplin’s office regarding his family. He is given compassionate leave and returns home.
Back at home, he seeks vengeance Now he faces a different kind of war. Just as he feels he has nothing left; he meets Valentina. for his family. What was acceptable in war is considered homicide in the states.
The book has a fast pace, the characters are developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. The theme reminds me of the Equalizer, Dirty Harry, and Revenge. If you like action thrillers, you may enjoy this book.
The book that started it all. Is it a little dated to read this title now? Certainly. Does that take away from the excitement of watching Mack take on the Mafia? Never. This is the kind of book to hand to a reluctant male reader. They will be hooked right away. Plus the bonus is that there are 36 more Pendelton-authored books to round out the list. (Number 16, written by William Crawford, could be added to that total - but it is not quite as good as the other titles.) A well-loved series from my early years that is still just as much fun to read.
