Having loved Rewind to You by Laura, I knew that I would enjoy this book. Between Now & Never has a great, at times suspenseful story, that I really liked. My heart broke for Julianna, oh that poor girl. I wanted to reach into the pages and help her out (especially with cleaning bathrooms). Cody was a great character too, and after what happened with the hit and run, I enjoyed his journey of trying to get his memory back, and also the flashes of other events in his life. Julianna takes on so much to keep her family together, I was frustrated with her dad and brother at times (especially her brother, did not like him)! I loved the point of view changes between the Julianna and Cody, that was a great way to keep the story going for me, and get to know the characters. I also enjoyed how their relationship progressed throughout and wasn't instant. Of course, a lot of that had to do with Cody's memory loss, but I still appreciated it.
I requested this book years ago, and am no longer interested in reading. Thank you for the opportunity.
This captivating YA story really pulled me in and made it hard to get things done around the house (which is bad for laundry, toilets and things like that, but is the sign of an awesome book). Julianna comes from a rough family—her mom’s in jail for mortgage fraud to pay for her brother’s drug rehab and her father’s a scatterbrained artist who is lost without his wife. Cody on the other hand comes from a stable family with money. His dad’s the FBI agent who put Julianna’s mother away, so even though he finds Julianna attractive when he moves to a new high school his senior year, he figures he should stay away from her…although she is key to unlocking what he has forgotten after a hit-and-run accident. I loved how this story switched between Cody’s and Julianna’s POV. Getting into two people’s heads who are so very different from each other was intriguing, especially because I came to care for them both way too much.
Beautifully written, poignant, and at times downright heart-wrenching, Between Now and Never is a lovely story is appropriate for all. Even though it delves into gritty, real-life issues, it sits firmly on the Clean and Wholesome shelf with no sex scenes and no bad language. The romance progressed at a satisfying rate, both characters underwent self discovery and self improvement, the hero was swoon-worthy, the heroine was likable, and it had a perfect, happily ever after ending.
