What a thrillride! HB Moore has proven time and time again what an amazing author she is. This book is no exception to her talent. The characters are engrossing and I loved the way Finding Sheba is told.
I really enjoyed this story! I liked how the story was told. There were three different story lines and it was interesting to see how they all came together at the end. I liked how one of the story lines was about the Queen of Sheba and the other two stories were in present day. It was interesting to read about the Queen of Sheba - I don't really know much about her and it was fun to read Moore's take on things.
I think Moore is very creative and I am excited to read more of her books! I was hoping to get more of Chalice's story from Beneath. Hopefully we will get to read more about her in a future book.
This was my first book by this author and it will not be my last. This book reminded me a bit of The DaVinci Code and I can easily see Finding Sheba made into a movie. The different viewpoints converging in the story were well done and she fit in some pretty good character development even though the book was packed with action. I particularly enjoyed the Queen of Sheba's viewpoint. I thought it would feel out of place or be confusing flipping back and forth between so many characters and from the present to the past and back but it was well done.
I also loved the romance and that it was passionate in spots but still clean (no cursing that I remember either...)
I don't know why I took so long to get to reading this book. But when I did get to reading it, I was completely hooked. I had only heard of Queen Sheba but not read much about her and reading this book made me want to explore the history.
Because so much of our traditional historical narrative is controlled by the West, such stories are often lost to time. So many stories in India are also lost, either because of invaders who burned them, including temples, or the British who categorically discredited every single ounce of our history.
And that's why I feel writing a book like Finding Sheba is excellent. There are amazing and inspiring people in the Middle East, South and Far East who need to have their stories told. And because this book was a thriller, it made it that much more exciting to read.
Queen Sheba is mythical. Few believe she exists but a faction of people are vehemently against any evidence of her existence coming to light. And that play between the believers and the extinguishers made this book a fast paced yet thrilling read. And when I finished reading this, I couldn't believe it, it went by so quickly. I had also read quite a bit of Queen Sheba online through whatever websites I could and I was completely fascinated about her life. I wished there was a time machine which would transport me back and give me a glimpse into her life.
I'm too late writing this review, it's almost a year since I read the book and it is definitely one of those books which I will be reading again and again. I will gladly get lost in the pages once more to live along with Queen Sheba.
I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially those who love historical fiction.
