Blood Moon is the 2nd book in The Huntress/FBI Thriller series. This is not a standalone story, you should read The Huntress first. Twenty-five years ago, The Reaper terrorized California, massacring three ordinary families before disappearing without a trace. There was only one survivor, Cara, who is now a vigilante, killing at least thirteen men who abuse children and women. Special Agent Matthew Roarke and Agent Damien Epps are tracking her, but aren't sure where she is, or if she is still alive after her injuries in the first book. While they are looking for her, they get a call to a crime scene that looks a lot like another Reaper killing. Is it The Reaper or a copycat. The next thing they know, they have another one and their focus shifts to find The Reaper. Roarke knows that Cara can help them if she wants, and if they can find her.

This was another great crime thriller that I really enjoyed. Once I started listening to this one, I didn't stop until I was finished. Although Cara is a criminal, I still liked her. She had been through tragic times and had some mental health issues. She saw evil, and had to destroy it. She only hurt terrible men, but I know it is still wrong. Roarke feels a lot like I do, and struggles when it comes to arresting her. This was a dark thriller with some horrific crimes. He seems to have the power to feel evil as well and is able to put together information in a way that helps solve the crime. There is some stuff in his past that we learn by bits throughout both books. This is a fast moving story with a lot of suspense and twists. The Reaper is a very evil person who kills with no remorse. I wanted The Reaper to be caught, but not at the risk of Cara being apprehended as well. Although it is not a cliffhanger, there is more to come with Roarke and The Huntress. Another great addition to this series.

2.5 stars. I feel the same way I felt after reading the first book in this series. It started out slow, got more interesting, but was bogged down by being too wordy. I don't think I will continue with this series.

FBI special agent Matthew Roarke and his team are still searching for a woman who is killing the monsters masquerading as men.
She has talent for finding the worst of them, and uses her own brand of justice. The terrible tragedy that took the rest of her family marked her in ways that very few will understand.
This is the second book in a series that should really be read in order. They are FBI thrillers filled with intensely complicated characters and danger round ever corner. Once you read the first book you will be hooked and need to finish the series. I'm off now to get the next one, even though this looks like the ending.
Very exciting.

I thought that this book was very well done. This is the second book in the Huntress/FBI Thrillers series which is a series that really does need to be read in order. This book picks up shortly after the events in the first installment in the series with Special Agent Roarke still trying to capture Cara. I was quickly pulled back into this ongoing story and had a really good time with it.

Cara Lindstrom was the only survivor of a murderer known as The Reaper when she was just a young child. She is now also a murderer and wanted by the FBI. Her crimes have been committed against those that have harmed or are in the process of harming others. It is next to impossible to feel regret over the lives she has taken but Roarke is determined to bring her in.

Roarke intends to set a trap for Cara and stumbles upon a crime much larger than he thought possible. I was completely pulled in by this story and had a great time trying to figure out how everything would work out and what the FBI's next move would be. There was a lot of action and the story moved at a pretty fast pace. I liked the profiling aspect of the story and thought it added a really interesting aspect to the story.

R.C. Bray did a fantastic job with the narration. For some reason, his voice just seems perfect for this kind of story. He was able to really bring the story to life and did a great job with all of the character voices. I really like the quality of his voice and found that I wanted to listen to this book for hours at a time.

I would recommend this series to others. I think that this is a very well done mystery that kept me guessing paired with great characters and enough action to keep things interesting. I am looking forward to listening to the next book in the series very soon.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Thomas & Mercer via NetGalley and purchased a copy of the audiobook.

(I received a free copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.)

Twenty-five years have passed since a savage killer terrorized California, massacring three ordinary families before disappearing without a trace. The only surviving victim of his rampage was a child…who is now wanted by the FBI for brutal crimes of her own.
Special Agent Matthew Roarke is on an interstate manhunt to track her down, despite feeling torn between his dedication to duty and his sympathy for her horrific history and motives. But when Roarke’s search unearths evidence of new family slayings, the dangerous woman he seeks—and secretly wants—may be his only hope of preventing another bloodbath. He just has to find her first.

Well, this was a vast improvement, story-wise, on the first book. There, the story never really did anything and I described it more as a mystery than a thriller. But that changed a bit in this book.

The story really gets a boost in action for this second book of the series. I found myself really enjoying the chase.

However, the over-attention to detail was frustrating. The story starts to build momentum, and then the author decides to spend paragraph after paragraph describing scenery or location - who cares, get on with the story...

Will try the third book and see if it improves again.
