Brittany and Clara are twins. Clara needs a kidney transplant and who better than a twin. Shortly after a successful surgery Clara dies. Brittany is despondent, emotionally and financially. She meets a couple in the restaurant where she is the head pastry chef who offer a way out of her troubles. Come to their villa in France and work for them. She unwittingly signs an NDA and goes to France. At first everything seems fine but there are some red flags. Then Brittany finds out she's pregnant from a one-night stand shortly before going to France. When her employers find out that she isn't interested in keeping her baby and is willing for them to adopt it when it's born. Lots of rules for her to follow after the contract is signed and she realizes she's made a horrible mistake. She is in too deep and can't see a way out. This is a very twisted story of regret and being emotionally vulnerable. I enjoyed the book and thank the publisher & NetGalley for the opportunity to read the book.

This almost felt like two different stories, but they came together and made a gripping read. Some unpleasant characters made it a very interesting story.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in return for an honest review. I enjoyed it

If you've read the blurb, and read other reviews, you'll know that this tale concerns Brittany, a pastry chef who loses her job during tragic circumstances. That really is all I can tell you at the moment because here I am...26% of the way in on my Kindle and Brittany is still grieving, understandably, and still looking for a decent job. At the moment she's waitressing just to make ends meet.

When does this start to get interesting? Is it me? Am I missing some crucial plot twist? Nothing has happened – apart from her loss and the never-ending grief which is described in painful detail, over and over again, leaving me feeling like I've been bludgeoned repeatedly with a blunt object.

This is supposed to be a “domestic thriller”. When does it become thrilling? Because surely by now, at almost a third of the way in I should begin to see something thrilling. This has been described as “fast-paced”. Really? For me this is a slow, plodding-through-porridge-with-lead-in-my-wellies story which I am going to add to my ever growing To Be Deleted list.

I was hooked on this book as soon as i picked it up. O love the dynamics of the chef world and i so enjoyed dissecting the relationship between John and Angela. I knew something was wrong with John when he put his has on Brittany's knee!! I could not put this book down and i did see what happened to Christine to be what it was! I feel so sorry for the poor baby but that is unfortunate a reality for some families.

Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley for the early copy in exchange for my honest review.

Brittany is a pastry chef, trying to deal with a recent loss and a job gone wrong when the chance of a lifetime suddenly appears. Things get dark really quickly as Brittany finds herself tangled in a web with twists and turns around every corner.

I did find the first 1/3 of the book to be a bit slow in developing, however once things picked up I was drawn in and wanted more. I enjoyed the occasional change in perspective and enjoyed Huntley's writing style throughout. The ending felt a bit rushed and the author made choices that I didn't love but still respect.

Overall great quick read with good twists I didn't anticipate. I'd happily recommend it to a friend who enjoys psychological thrillers.

It's a addictively good thriller that's fast on pace, full of suspense and surprises.
As ever, this kept me guessing and it was great to make my theories throughout, only to find the twists coming fast and throwing me off track.
A really good read from Huntley once more. Perfect to binge and get out of a slump, which is exactly what I needed!

REVIEW: The Good Parents by Jessica Huntley 3.5 Stars

A pastry chef, Brittany, is going through a rough time. She lost her twin sister to cancer, she lost her job, and she feels completely lost. When an opportunity arises to be a personal pastry chef to wealthy John and Angela Dalton, Brittany picks up her life and moves in with them. When Brittany finds out she is unexpectedly pregnant, she knows she is not fit to be a mother. John and Angela offer to adopt her baby. Is it really as perfect a situation as it seems?

The Good Parents is a domestic thriller focusing on the Dalton family and their pastry chef, Brittany. I liked how things weren't as they seemed throughout the book. Slowly, the book revealed the different layers, but as a reader, you also didn't know who you could trust as characters. It starts only from Brittany's point of view and then introduces some chapters from Angela's point of view. This story does get dark in some areas, especially about the loss of a child. Even though some of the book was predictable, there were also many parts where I didn't know what would happen.

A few things in The Good Parents didn't work for me. First of all, the beginning was very slow. It was nearly 40% of the book before the plot started, rather than just background. The beginning could have been much shorter. Some unbelievable moments also took me out of the story a bit.

Overall, The Good Parents was an okay read; I didn't really love or hate it. I am curious enough to check out other books by this author in the future.

Thank you, Inkubator Books and Netgalley, for the free advanced copy for my honest review!

The Good Parents is the second book I've read by Huntley. It was well received.

It's split into three parts and is told in first person by pastry chef Brittany who has just discovered she's pregnant.

There's a dark and sinister sense of unease throughout that adds to the suspense and rising tension.

Pace is fast, the plot had me hooked and I found it very hard to put it down...Just one more chapter and all that...

I found the characters to be quite unpredictable and untrustworthy. The Daltons immediately made me feel uncomfortable and ill at ease, which set the alarm bells ringing.

Brilliantly twisty with an ending that left me reeling.

Thank you, NetGalley, Jessica Huntley, and Inkubator Books, for an early copy in exchange for a review.

I was so excited to read this one based in the creepy cover and thrilling synopsis.

Unfortunately, it wasn't my favorite. I did not like the main female character, Brittany. The writing felt very rushed, and some points in the book felt abrupt. As well as the ending didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Overall, it was a quick, fast-paced read. But I wouldn't read again.

The Good Parents is an eerie and sometimes sinister psychological thriller about power and control and mental health. Though the build-up takes up more space than necessary, the rest of the story is well worth the time and energy that it takes to get through it.

The Good Parents by Jessica Hutley. At the start we meet Brittany a pastry chef who is having a difficult time in life. She is mourning the loss of her twin and has now found out she is pregnant. She knows she can’t raise this baby and is trying to figure out what to do when she meets the Daltons. They offer Brittany a job and offer to adopt her baby. Brittany cannot believe her luck that she met this influential and well off couple. Brittany moves in with them and then things take a sharp turn. It had creepy undertones and left me unsettled but at the same time, needing to know what will happen next. This book was a quick read for me and I really enjoyed the on edge atmosphere. Thank you to Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the arc.

I was accepted to read this book before official publication through NetGalley and below is my honest review.

Another 5 star read! This is a fast paced gripping psychological thriller. So I knew straight away this would be right up my street!

The story unfolds in a way that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I found myself really invested by rooting for certain characters and angry with others. I really do love a book where you can become so involved 😂 it’s fast paced with snappy, shorter chapters!

I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a psychological thriller. I would advise to check trigger warnings as some people may find the plot difficult.

Overall, I give this book 5 stars!

Jessica Huntley’s The Good Parents is a gripping, emotional rollercoaster that takes readers on a wild and unpredictable journey through desperation, deception, and the hope for a better life. At its center is Britney—a character whose resilience is tested at every turn as she faces one crushing blow after another, only to be presented with an irresistible offer that seems too good to be true.

What begins as a story rooted in hardship quickly spirals into something much darker and more complex. Huntley masterfully balances the emotional depth of Britney’s struggles with a rising sense of suspense, leading to a jaw-dropping twist that completely reframes everything the reader thought they knew. The chaos that unfolds is both heart-pounding and thought-provoking, making it impossible to look away.

The concept itself feels refreshingly original, blending raw human emotion with thriller elements in a way that sets it apart from more formulaic reads. Huntley doesn’t shy away from the gritty realities of her protagonist’s situation, but she also builds in a sense of hope and momentum that keeps the pages turning. The pacing is tight, the tension well-maintained, and the ultimate revelations deeply satisfying.

The Good Parents is a must-read for fans of emotionally intense thrillers with a unique edge. It’s the kind of story that sticks with you long after the final page—unsettling, clever, and completely addictive.

The Good Parents by Jessica Huntley is a fast-paced thriller full of secrets and suspense!

Brittany Young is a pastry chef who is mourning the loss of her twin sister. When she discovers she is pregnant, she has no clue what to do. She has no way to take care of a baby and she is not maternal in the least. But Brittany's future seems to improve after meeting John and Angela Dalton, a wealthy couple who have offered Brittany a job at their extravagant villa. They also offer to adopt Brittany's baby and to raise it at their own. But soon Brittany notices strange things happening, John's behavior is more sinister than charming, and Angela is erratic and unstable. Brittany realizes that she is trapped in an increasingly dangerous game and she must find a way for her baby and her to escape.

An absolute roller coaster of a ride, this novel is so fast-paced I flew through it in a day! This is the third book by Huntley that I have read and I am already eagerly anticipating what she writes next! The characters were all well developed even if some were incredibly unstable and unlikable. With short punchy chapters this is a quick read but it is jam-packed and I highly recommend giving it a shot!

Thank you to NetGalley, Jessica Huntley, and Inkubator Books for this ARC!! Publication date is April 6th 2025.

The books starts with a seemingly perfect couple desperate baby and Brittany a pregnant woman not ready to raise her baby after the death of her twin... They strike up a deal to make it worthwhile for both parties involved, working in their villa with an amazing home throughout the remainder of her pregnancy. It seems too good to be true.... Because it is. The rest of the book is uncovering the lies and secrets these two seemingly perfect people have... And the ending??? You won't believe that trust! There were little parts that dragged on but it was an easy read overall.

Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator books for this chance to read this ARC. 3.5 Stars

The Good Parents started off a little slow and heartbreaking. But let me tell you, when this story picked up, man did it pick up. Brittany is grieving the loss of her twin sister and also loses her job at the same time. She takes a job as a pastry chef for the Dalton family and quickly realizes something is off about them. But when she finds that she is pregnant and not ready to become a parent, the Dalton's quickly find a solution to help her. They're willing to adopt the baby and give her enough money to open her own restaurant. To Brittany, this seems like an ideal opportunity and signs a contract with them. But she soon starts to learn about the Dalton's and what happened to their 2 previous children. Now she's fearing for her life and the life of her unborn child. This was such a fun, thrilling read with lots of twists. I was hooked and couldn't put it down until the end. I highly recommend giving this one a read.
