A brand new author to me - I do like finding a new author. An enjoyable read and would be interested in reading more by this author.

I read other reviews but was not deterred as everyone is different but I just could not connect with this book and gave up.

There is little plot or engaging characters,, it is more a stream of thoughts and insights on different topics. Rather a marmite book and not one that really appealed to me

I really didn't get on with this book at all. I realise its longlisted for the Man Booker, but I found difficulty with finding any attachment to the character and the purpose of the novel. I was thankful that it only lasted two hundred pages, because any longer and I think I would have given up past that. What put me off was the scientific language that I simply don't understand, and it made the book drag. I'm putting it down to that this simply wasn't a book for me or even directed at 'my' audience.

I may have missed 'the point' but this one was definitely not for me.

The blurb I read called this 'a book for our ages'. I read novels for fun and escapism. The only escapism for me was when I decided to give up reading this book.
In my entire life prior to trying to read this book, (and alas, I am not young), there have only been two books that I have failed to finish. Sadly, this made a third.
This appears to be the kind of book that is written to make the author seem very clever, and the reader very stupid. Or perhaps it is just me.
Amazon has it reasonably high in the ratings for technothrillers, as I write this, but I do not understand why. I normally like that genre, but this did not appear to be one and I had to give up one quarter of the way through.

Not my usual type of read. I found it hard work but it was an interesting and fascinating read.

Sorry, I didn't enjoy this book and wasn't able to finish it.

Thanks for the free copy Netgalley. I'm sorry to say though, that I have never started a book that has defeated me .... until now. I have tried 3 times to get past the first two chapters of this book and have given up. I hate to admit defeat but life is too short and there are just too many other books out there for me to read so I've already forgiven myself for moving on.

I consider myself well educated but the sentence construction was overly long. I found myself mentally rewriting them into shorter, more concise ones (conveying their meaning equally if not better than the original). I don't want to have to analyse and rewrite sentences - that's not my job as the reader! I go very much a sense of why say in 10 words what you can say in 45!

I'm sure there are other readers out there who are far deeper than I who may enjoy this book but it's certainly one that I won't be recommending and sadly, I'd be very wary or reading any other works by this author as a result.
