In being a youth services librarian, I have witnessed a surge in interest for nonfiction books, especially with a creepy crawly touch. This addition on anglerfish is no exception! With incredible photography teaming up with strong information and interesting facts, Anglerfish is sure to be a hit for library collections serving youth populations.

A very decent example of a series of six books showing young biologists some very weird creatures. Here the definitively nasty-looking anglerfish are the subject, with their luminescent lures, their weird sex life, and their transparent teeth. This publisher does like overloading the page with captions and separated factoids, but here the main narrative is so short and easy to read the issue of it being interrupted that much is a lot less – and a lot of the acclaim here has to be for the photos anyway. A strong four stars.

I like the photographs in this a lot. It's an interesting topic and will appeal to kids who like weird things. I am confused by the targeted age group. The text length and format makes me think it's for preschool age, but there's a lot of talk of mating. And then at the end they define the word "curiosity" which one would think a child who's ready to talk about fertilization would already know.

Thank you NetGalley for the arc.

My son absolutely loved An Arc of Anglerfish! The book is packed with super cool facts about these weird and awesome deep-sea fish, and he learned a ton of new things. The photos are incredible—really detailed and eye-catching—which made the whole experience even better.

The design of the book is also really nice, making it fun and easy to read. It kept my son totally engaged, and we both walked away knowing more about anglerfish than we ever expected. If you’ve got a kid who’s into ocean creatures or just loves learning new things, this book is a great pick!
