This is another excellent Timber Creek K-9 Mystery from Margaret Mizushima. This is the tenth in the series and each seems better than the last. In this episode, Mattie, new husband Cole and his two daughters are on a family winter sports trip when Mattie and the girls hear a distant panicked cry. Mattie sends the girls back to the cabin and searches out the source of the cry, hoping it is best case someone injured who needs help. Before she can find the victim, a rock slide buries him, assuring his death. Worse, it turns out to be the husband of a friend. At first, it seems an accident, but soon, Mattie with Robo's help track down enough clues to confirm it is murder. Now, they must figure out who would want to kill this seemingly well-liked man and how will she bring justice to him.
As always, we as readers are intimately involved in the search with not just Mattie but Robbie as he sniffs out clues and tracks down evidence. It is this sort of adventure that makes each of these stories unique and just what I’ve come to expect from Mizushima. Another 5-5 with no reservations.

I've read all (I believe) of the Timber Creek series to date and definitely recommend them. I would say that this installment could be read as a standalone but for fullest understanding, I'd suggest starting at the beginning of the series. This particular volume takes place at the beginning of the protagonist, Maddie's (K9 officer in the local Sheriff's department) marriage to local vet/single father, Cole. Murder ensues while they are enjoying a family vacation in the snow-covered mountains of Colorado.
The Timber Creek books are not light-hearted cozies. They ARE very well ( and carefully) written. I think that procedurally they are much closer to the way things actually work than some other K9 series books that are out there. I have enjoyed reading them and hope you will, too.
My thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing a free copy of the book.
P S-- I would give 4 1/2 stars if that were possible.

The best yet in the Timber Creek series! Mattie and Robo are a force to be reckoned with. I loved seeing Mattie and Cole adjust to married life!

An excellent setting for adventure and mystery, a complex plot, and a dog... what more could I want? I'd like to re-read this in the dead of winter, curled up with my own dog. :) An enjoyable read and my first book from this author. Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC of this book!

Dying Cry, the tenth in Margaret Mizushima’s Timber Creek K-9 Mystery series, is an excellent book. It had me hooked from the very beginning! Deputy Mattie Walker and her K-9 partner, Robo, are on vacation with her new husband, Cole and her two step-daughters when they hear a scream in the mountains. Mattie and Robo investigate and discover a friend of theirs had fallen off a cliff. Was it an accident or murder? There are so many twists and turns, lots of suspense, and a few surprises as Mattie works with her colleagues to discover the truth. This book can be read as a standalone but I recommend the entire series!

Dying Cry by Margaret Mizushima is the 10th Timber Creek K9 mystery which finds Mattie and Cole and family back in the mountains of Colorado. While on a snowshoe trek with her family, Mattie and Robo find a dead body, so are involved in yet another investigation. As they get closer to the truth, someone threatens her family and friends and the chase is on! With the familiar characters and a great location this book is a welcome addition to the series.

In Dying Cry, newlywed Maddie and her K9 partner Robo work with their colleagues to discover the perpetrator of a grisly murder: the victim was forced over a cliff. A number of recurring characters appear again (this could be read as a standalone, but the character development is one of the best aspects of this series, so I recommend reading the books in order). A complex plot, lots of suspects, and several threads to the investigation are cleverly tied up at the end. I almost wish the author threw less trauma at her characters, but she does it all very well. HIghly recommend. Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the eARC.

Whenever a new Margaret Mizushima Timber Creek mystery comes out, I am positively delighted and can't wait to read it. All 10 of the books feature the characters we have come to love and appreciate, including Mattie, with her K-9 dog, Robo, Mattie's new husband, Cole, and his two daughters. Even the housekeeper, Mrs. Gibbs, becomes part of the family, and the plot includes various law enforcement officers.
Mizushima's books are descriptively and incisively set in the Colorado mountains, and her plots always include twists and turns that keep readers on their toes. Mizushima's books have every element a superior mystery needs: detail, description, action, and mysterious characters. For mystery readers, Mizushima's books are among the very best. If you need or want to spend a few hours happily engrossed in a book, this series is highly recommended.
Thanks to Crooked Lane books and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book..

Margaret Mizushima hits it out of the park with Dying Cry featuring Mattie, her new husband Cole, and K-9 Robo. I was captivated from page 1 of this riveting mystery. There were plenty of questions, intriguing twists, and complex threads to follow, as well as a few surprises along the way. The intensity and emotion are gripping, and it was a hard book to put down. I love mysteries, particularly ones featuring a K-9, and this one is among the best!

It's been a while since I've visited Cole and Mattie's world, so it was great to pop back into Tmber Creek and the gang.
Cole and Mattie, and family are at the lodge when they hear a scream that's abruptly cut off while out snowshoing, and Mattie and Robo check it out only to discover the worst . Now, insteading of heading home on a high note, Mattie and Robo are tasked with working.
Follow in this book as someone close to the family is murdered and the Timber Creek Sherrif's department must find out who the killer is.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This may be my favorite book in the series. Maddie is settling into married life and enjoying a weekend get away with her family when they witness a fatal accident. As the investigation progresses, Maddie can reflect on how much her life has changed and how much she has to fight for.

Another great read by Margaret Mizushima revolving around Deputy Mattie Walker and her K9 partner Robo! The characters are well developed, plot filled with suspense and mystery to keep you glued to the pages. Heart-rendering-true-to-life family issues to consider and address openly and honestly making the story line interesting and entertaining.

I have read all the Timber Creek K-9 mysteries that take place in the Colorado Rockies and they just keep getting better. Dying Cry is the best one yet! In fact, my household chores were put on hold during the couple of days I was reading this book!
The story opens at a fast pace with a gruesome death, which sets the stage for the murder investigation. This fast pace continues throughout the investigation as Mattie, Robo, Stella, the sheriff and the deputies follow every lead. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the author threw in a twist that I didn’t see coming!
A major component, of all the Timber Creek K-9 books, is the interaction between Mattie and, her dog, Robo. I find it fascinating to learn about the challenges involved with being a K-9 handler, the techniques used and understanding what a privilege it would be. If you love dogs, suspense, a Colorado setting and interesting characters; don’t miss this series! And, if you haven’t read the first nine books, I highly recommend starting at the beginning with Killing Trail to get the full benefit of the author's character development and the growing relationships.
