Apparently, I never reviewed this book after reading it. I wound up getting it from the school library after forgetting to download it from NG as I was new to NG at the time.
This book is sad and hard and depressing. This will turn some people away from a book like this for young kids. And i do not think this book will be good for all kids in the age range in which this book is intended. But put into the hands of the correct young reader, this book would teach kids about empathy and the situations of other people.
I didn't really like this book. It was slow and pretty depressing. Liberty and her sister Billie are in their dad's custody after their mom passes away. Things aren't going well and he abandons them at a gas station. After they discover they've been abandoned they venture off on their own and meet one depressing character after another.
This book just wasn't for me.
