'The Fold' by Peter Clines is the second book in his Threshold series, but it works well as a standalone novel as well.

Mike Erikson is a school teacher living a quiet life when he is called to do a favor for a friend and investigate a strange science experiment that may not be going well. With his uncanny memory, Mike is able to view things once and remember them forever. With one scientist locked up with mental problems and another seemingly killed by the experiment, Mike has his work cut out for him, but it's even stranger than he thinks.

This was a quick, fun read. There are lots of nerdy references, and I liked how they were used to identify the characters among other things. I figured things out early on, but it was still a good read.

This book never made it onto my kindle. Not sure why I couldn't get it moved over, as it appeared on my amazon list. Hopefully that doesn't happen again.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
It was surprising: started out quite the normal, current-day techno-story, with only vague hints of something more.
But oh boy did it transition into quite the science fiction thriller!
