If loneliness, emptiness and indifference are the illnesses of this world, what is the currency of love? Yes, hope.

Charlie Finn has a broken heart and he even don't know to what extent. What he knows, he tries to repair by walls and indifference. Yet he can't stop himself (and even doesn't want to) to love some people - his friend and business partner Colin, his wife and children - precious Maria and insecure teenager Zaul. So when the tragedy strikes, Maria is hurt and Zaul on the run, Charlie is very willing to help and to bring the hurting teenager home. So the lookout begins and bring Charlie back to Nicaragua, where he once crossed the lives of people the very wrong way. May the redemption wait for him there?

Until now there was only one Christian male writer sittig on the throne in my literary pantheon - Billy Coffey. Now I have two. And I will read anything by Charles Martin from now.
Such a depth is rarely here for both reader and human heart to encounter.
Charles Martin somehow knows how it is to live with broken, empty heart and to try to heal this hurt with quasi "plasters" (money, fame, facade, name them) or to protect the hurting place with indifference and no real relationships. He also knows that the only real medicament is love. And its currency is hope.
Of I tried to liken and to pair the Charlie's story with any "stories" (as they are much more than just stories) of the Bible, it would be the one of the Samaritan woman and the well. She also lived with hurt heart and needed a living water to heal her. This novel tells the same story in the modern clothing - and every word is true and beautiful.

From the literary point - this book flows as richly, boldly and freshly as any river. Not a dull word, not a scene too much, and every and any of the scenes shot straightly onto the heart of the novel.
The story itself may be simple (as every good story is), but the richness of storytelling is what adds the boiling water onto first-class beans and makes the into a wonderful cup of coffee.
I love Charlie, as I understand him. I love Leena, as the is both a ray of light and I person I would love to have as a friend. I love Paulo, as I would love to be like him.

Another fantastic one from Charles Martin! This has to be one of my top favorites from the author. Great characters, a compelling storyline, and some wonderful settings make this one that shouldn't be missed!

Charlie Finn doesn't sound like a character I'd enjoy, but he was wonderful! I really wanted everything to work out for him! I liked the way he really grew as a person throughout the story. Some of the other characters were great as well!

I feel certain that this will be one of my favorite books of the year.
