Are you looking for your next thriller? Check out The Final Wife by Jenny Blackhurst. This is one out soon

The Final Wife is a good murder mystery with a difference. When plastic surgeon Luke is stabbed to death his wife is arrested and confesses. But DS Rebecca Dance is convinced that she didn't do it. So what is the real story here?

The narrative is revealed from different viewpoints and over various time periods, so it feels a little disorientating at first. But then the pieces come together as we learn of Luke's many affairs, his past marriage and current mistress. From one obvious suspect we now have many - but all appear to have solid alibis. The police investigation eventually sees several anomalies revealed and there are several twists before the truth is revealed.

This is a well plotted novel with several interesting, if not altogether likable, lead characters. It keeps the reader guessing and the pace is good throughout.

4.5 stars rounded up!

I love Jenny Blackhurst’s thrillers so I was excited to get stuck into her new book, The Final Wife. The story begins with Anna Whitney’s arrest for the murder of her husband, Luke. She admits that she killed him - but, DS Rebecca Dance isn’t buying it. Anna doesn’t seem to know the correct details of the crime and she won’t even say what they were arguing about.

Whilst Rebecca and her team start to delve into the lives of Anna and Luke, we flashback to how Anna first met Luke - when he was married to Rose. And their unconventional relationship where Luke held all the power and Anna tried to hold onto him by any means. Gradually the picture of what happened that final night shifts and changes… again… and again!

This was such a gripping story - I had no idea what was going on! It was so tense and suspenseful, and really well told so that it never felt over the top, but it kept delivering the surprises!

The characters were great too - I wonder if we might see DS Dance and her team again in another book? I hope so!

When Luke is found murdered. His wife (the second one) claims it is her who stabbed him.
But did she?
I loved the officer Rebecca pretty damn amazing. I loved Anna, Pippa, and Rose. (You have to read it to find out who all these women are). I loved the story it kept me hooked from the beginning to the very end and the last chapter sure shocked me. Jenny Blackhurst told a story and kept you engulfed from the beginning to the end.
Thank you Netgalley and Canelo for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I do love a Jenny Blackhurst book and this was just as good as her other books. When Luke is stabbed to death, his wife Anna is found next to his body confessing that she killed him but when the police dig deeper into the pairs background they realise there is more to this story than meets the eye. Nothing is plain simple or as seems. It cannot be such a simple case to conclude with. Secrets, lies, betrayals but who was the one that really killed Luke? I like how the story got me hooked from the first chapter, it was a story will potential killers but who was the actual killer? it twists one way and you think you are on the right path and then it twists the other way so much so that you don't know where the story will turn next. The ending was brilliant. Such brilliant writing for a fantastic author. I loved it.

Plastic surgeon, Luke Whitley, leaves his first wife, Rose, and marries Anna. Anna is much younger than Rose. Anna soon discovers her husband is not always faithful. She has a few of her own tricks and rules that she expects to be followed. Who is the aggressor here? And why does Luke end up dead?

Luke Whitley is an older plastic surgeon who seems to like the younger women. He likes to cheat and he likes controlling sex with his wife. But then he ends up dead. Did his affairs get him killed? This book has a lot of characters in it that tie together. I didn't feel it was as good as other books by Jenny, but has some suspense and you have to figure out who is responsible and why.

Thanks to Netgalley and Canelo for providing this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Luke is found stabbed to death at his holiday cottage in the Cotswolds. His second wife Anna is in custody and she is pleading guilty to stabbing him, but there is evidence that she couldn't have been there at the time he was stabbed. So, why is she claiming she murdered him when she apparently didn't?

I liked the way this book unfolded with the back stories of Luke and Anna and Luke's ex-wife Rose being metered out why the investigation was going on. It held my interest and I enjoyed it. I usually like this author's work and look forward to her next novel.

Luke Whitney is a narcissistic womanizer who's always looking for newer, younger beauties. He doesn't realize that he can also be conned and his wife, ex wife and mistress aren't for the challenge.

I really enjoyed this storyline and plot. The very end was quite a surprise!!

Luke Whitney is a plastic surgeon who leaves his wife, Rose, and marries his second wife, Anna. Anna is arrested when Luke is found dead. She insists she killed him, but the police are not sure. This story has a lot of characters that come to light-basically people sleeping with each other and wanting revenge. It was ok.

Luke Whitney is a plastic surgeon with a little bit of a “woman” problem. He has two wives and some other women he just can’t seem to keep his hands off. But then what happens when his wives give him a little dose of his own medicine? Seemed a little dull to me. Too many characters but all they did was cheat on each other. Not one of her best books.

Luke Whitney is a plastic surgeon. He leaves his first wife, Rose, for Anna, who is a waitress. Anna is a natural beauty, which appeals to him.
Luke and Anna have a game they play, to add excitement to their marriage and to try and stop Luke from straying.
Until Luke dies from a stabbing, and Anna confesses.
Game Over.

This is an interesting read, the relationships between Luke and his two wives and his lover are complicated.
The twist is extremely complicated - the reader has to really concentrate in order not to get confused.
A good read, I enjoyed it.

An absolute banger of a psychological thriller! I was hooked from the get-go and torn between racing to the end or savoring every page! An impossible to put down, don’t start it before bedtime kind of book it kept me guessing the entire time… I always try to guess whodunit, but guess what – I WAS WRONG!!

I picked up my first Blackhurst book a few years ago, because it was set in a small village I knew. It was a great read.
I've pretty much read everything she's brought out since.
They've all been good.
This one might be the best though.
I flew through it.
It has plenty of twists, and I was constantly wondering who was lying, because it was obvious someone was.
Maybe everyone.
A very entertaining read.
