I really enjoyed reading Petals and Plot Twists. It was such a sweet book. I loved Sophie when I read The Serendipity and I’m SO glad she finally got her happily ever after with Peter because he waited a really long time for her! I had such a fun time reading it and I really loved how we got glimpses of the other characters we’ve met in this series too. Can’t wait to read more from this series!
I was given an advanced copy of this book. All opinions expressed above are my own.

So cute, funny and unique. Definitely a must read in the series. I loved the characters and the building so much in this book! The characters had so many realistic qualities. Excellent story.

Book 3 in the Only Magic in the Building series is here! I really enjoyed reading this book. Peter and Sophie are so adorable together. They know how to serve and comfort each other. I enjoy reading books where the main characters know each other so well, you see how they take care of each other without even thinking twice. I adored Peter as a nerdy cinnamon roll MMC. Sophie is fun, spunky, and trying her best to overcome family trauma. It was enjoyable seeing Willa and Archer in here as well, from Emma St. Clair's The Serendipity. I truly enjoy the magical aspect of the building that helps its residents find love.
Read this book if you enjoy:
- Childhood friends to more
- Small town
- A slightly magical building pushing the characters together (so cute!)
- Nerdy MMC
- MMC = Data scientist
- FMC = Landscape architect
I was given an ARC copy of this book on NetGalley, but, as always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Petals & Plot Twists by Jenny Proctor
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
The third book in the Only Magic In The Building series by Jenny was such a sweet read. If you are looking for a swoony closed door romance with best friends to lovers theme, then do give this a read. The beauty and challenge of this trope is that it is delicate, which entails the age old push and pull of whether or not to risk a precious friendship. Jenny beautifully portrays these feelings with Peter and Sophie.
Having read a good number of Jenny’s books, I am always assured going in that the characters will be so good - they are emotional yet strong, complex yet simple, honest and loveable. Peter is such a sweetheart, the way he has silently loved Sophie for years and how he is a shy introvert person, how he would do anything for Sophie’s happiness - it all is so heartwarming. Sophie might also have had a crush on Peter but she has a deep seated trauma of failed relationships and she needs a guarantee that love will be a happy ending. A magical ‘love flower’ might be Sophie’s solution - it blooms in the presence of your true love. But, does true love really need the approval of a flower to be true!?
So far, I’ve read the first book in the series by Emma St Clair which introduces us to this magical building and it’s lovely residents. It is not a must read before reading this one, but the first book really helps to understand the logistics and quirkiness of this whole magical setting. Also, it is nice to know Willa & Archer, the first book couple who make a number of appearances. Willa and Sophie friendship is also so sweet.

Thank you NetGalley and Jenny Proctor Creative for this Arc!
What a sweet whimsical story just as we were promised! If you love a sweet best friends to lovers romance this is for you. What if a magical flower told you when your soulmate is near?
Set within the magical building of The Serendipity, our plant loving MFC Sophia and her best friend Peter will find out if they’re more than friends. They will first have to overcome a lot of miscommunication in this magical mystery story. This is the third book in the series “Only Magic in the Building.”

SO GLAD I WAS ABLE TO READ THIS ARC 😍
📚Petals & Plot Twists” by @jennyproctorbooks is like a rom-com meets a botanical experiment gone rogue.
Sophie, a plant-loving romantic with a history of dating disasters, discovers a magical flower that only blooms for true love. Naturally, chaos ensues. With the help of her best friend Peter (who may or may not be too good at playing the fake boyfriend), she embarks on a love-finding mission—only to realize the perfect match might have been right next to her all along.
This book is friends-to-lovers with a sprinkle of magic and a whole lot of adorable awkwardness. If you’ve ever overwatered a houseplant while overthinking your love life, you’ll relate. 🌱💕
This is Book 3 in the Only Magic in the Building series and I love them all so much!

Petals and Plot Twists by Jenny Proctor is another fantastic and wonderfully written romance story.
I found this book to be very well written. Being a big time Proctor fan I was not disappointed by this one.
I loved everything about this book. It kept me up late, desperate to read more about these characters.
This light-hearted read was sweet and oh so cute.
Jenny Proctor is an automatic read for me. Her books are always entertaining, so enjoyable, and all round amazing! Highly recommended!

4.25 stars! This has been my favorite one in the series so far! It was soo cute. I loved the friends to lovers in this book. Peter and Sophie are so cute. Jenny Proctor is one of my favorites and I will always read what she writes!
Thank you so much to the author, Netgalley, and the publisher for providing this ARC.
This book is out today so go read it!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me this ARC. I’m always a big fan of Jenny Proctor’s books!
This was a cute, magical romcom! The friends to lovers story was so sweet. The magic was subtle but I loved it! I absolutely love Sophie and Peter. I binge read this book so fast, it was adorable! My favorite of this series so far!

I love everything Jenny writes, and this was no exception it was such a perfect spring read with a beautiful touch of magic that I loved.
Sophie is a landscape architect. She also tends to the buildings rooftop garden, where she discovers a mysterious flower named "the love flower" that only blooms when true love is around. Sophie decides to use the flower to find her soul mate. Asking Peter, her best friend since high school to help her with her dating plan.
Peter was a loveable nerdy character he was so clearly in love with Sophie and showed her in every way. They were so comfortable in each other's space, but Sophie was scared and needed a little more time to realise she didn't need a flower to tell her what she already knew in her heart.
I loved Peter and Sophie building Lego and baking cookies together it was so cute. It was great to see them supporting each other with their family issues. I thought they communicated in such a mature way.
This was friends to lovers done so well. I really loved it. I'm definitely going back to read the others.

4.5 ⭐️ Oh, this book? Pure, unfiltered adorable. The kind of story that wraps you up in warmth like your favorite cozy sweater.
Peter is so hopelessly in love with Sophie, and honestly, who doesn’t love a golden retriever hero who's been pining since high school? Meanwhile, Sophie is on a mission—bringing random guys to the rooftop, hoping for a magical love-blooming flower to react. (Chaotic? Yes. Entertaining? Absolutely.) But Peter? He doesn't need a flower to tell him what he’s known all along.
The magical twist in this friends-to-lovers romance adds the perfect whimsical touch. Is it mildly frustrating that Peter keeps hesitating? Yes. But isn't that the tension we live for?
This story was pure rom-com magic with just the right sprinkle of fantasy. Will I dive into the rest of the Only Magic in the Building series? Maybe. But this book? 100% worth the read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Jenny Proctor Creative for the advanced copy!

As a plant and flower lover, I absolutely adored Petals and Plot Twists! The charming focus on the rooftop garden made this story feel extra special, and as a fellow happy plant mom, I really connected with Sophie, the FMC. Her love for greenery was woven beautifully into the story, making the setting feel vibrant and alive.
This book delivers a delightful mix of friends to lovers, he falls first, and forced proximity, all wrapped up in a small-town atmosphere with just the right hints of magic. The romance was sweet and slow-burning, with a hero who was easy to swoon over. His devotion to Sophie was heart-melting, and I loved watching their friendship blossom into something more.
The storytelling was engaging, and the characters were easy to root for (pun intended!). If you enjoy charming romance with a touch of whimsy, lovable characters, and a cozy setting, this book is a must-read. It was the perfect escape, like stepping into a lush garden filled with love and possibility.
🌿✨🌸 Highly recommend!

This book was just okay. I wanted a bit more from a Jenny Proctor book.
Look, this book was super cute with a magical realism element, but it just fell a bit flat.
What I loved:
1. The characters. I thought Sophie and Peter were really Cute together. I did want them to end up together. Peter was an adorable nerd with his Lego obsession. Sophie loved her plants and her friends.
2. The setting. Very unusual to have a home that is alive. Almost liked Murders in the Building and Monster House combined lol.
Things I didn’t like:
1. I didn’t understand why all of a sudden Sophie needs to find her soulmate. It would have made sense if she was currently dating or wanting to find a partner. But it was just kind of sudden.
2. I don’t like that they fought their attraction so heavily. I get it, but the signs they both liked each other were pretty glaring.
3. Characters were a bit flat. I would have loved a couple flashbacks to their childhood. Showing versus telling, you know.
I’m a huge fan of Proctor, so I will be reading her books in the future. This one was just on the low bar of her books I’ve enjoyed.
*An ARC was received in exchange for an honest review.

Ooohhh this was so good!
I loved every bit of Sophie and Peter.
I loved the whimsical aspects and how it just tied their relationship together so smoothly.
20/10 will read again

"Petals and Plot Twists" by Jenny Proctor is the sweet and clean, wonderful book with a bit of magic thrown in. There is some kissing and strong chemistry but it's a wonderful, engaging friends-to-more romance story.
I'm loving this series of books set at The Serendipity and this book is an excellent addition to the series. Sophie and Peter are the best of friends but both scared of turning their friendship into a romance. Enter a magical flower that only blooms when there is true love present, a woman determined to trust the flower to tell her what's real, and a man determined to not let a flower dictate his future and you have a wonderful story.
I liked the main characters and their friendship. They really bring the best out in each other and the dialogue between the two is great. Willa and Archer from the first book make their appearance several times in this one, and really are a huge part of the story so it's best to have read that one before reading this story. There are a few mentions of the couple in book 2, but if you haven't read that one it's not necessary for this one because the mentions are brief.
If you like HEA featuring the friends-to-lovers trope, this one is definitely for you. I loved the entire story and it was a very easy to read, enjoyable book.
I was able to read an ARC of this book via Netgalley and all opinions expressed in this review are my own.

great story but could have been resolved with communication. Also the magic was a little too much. but great story

A cozy, heartwarming whimsical best friends to lovers by one of the greatest names of closed door fiction.
Peter and Sophie have been best friends for most of their lives, but a magic flower and a temperamental building was the little push they needed to take their friendship to the next level.
One of the best things about this book was the dual pov. Because of it, we get to see Peter completely in love with Sophie from page one. He is one of the most adorable mmcs I've ever seen. I love him. In the beginning, Sophie has that side character syndrome, but throughout the book, she grows into a fierce leading lady.
I'd also like to point out that even though the book has some magical elements - like the flower that blooms in the presence of true love - the fantasy of it isn't overwhelming. Yes, you do need a little suspension of disbelief, but it makes this book a cozy whimsical romcom. As someone who usually doesn't read magical realism or anything like that, I really liked it.
By the way, this was my second friends to lovers by Jenny (Go read How to Kiss my Best Friend, it is great!!!) and few authors can develop this trope as well as her. It's almost like she is allergic to writing bad stories. She's one of my favorite authors ever.
I couldn't recommend Jenny's books enough, and Petals and Plot Twists now have a special place in my heart.
Thank you so much to the Netgalley and publishing team for access to this ARC. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I adored this sweet read from the incredible Jenny Proctor! I am loving this series so far! IT is so magical. I am still fairly new to magical realism but I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and pacing of this one! It had roommates, friends to lovers, "it's always been you", and so many other great tropes! I loved the magical flower plot! Overall, this story was so wonderful!
all the stars!!

what a lovely romance. i honestly cannot believe that jenny proctor wrote this in less than 2 months?? this is easily one of the m0st unique romances i have read, and its superfun. i love love love a good friends to lovers, and the magic and the message around this magic are honestly the cutest.
thank you to netgalley and the author for sending me the book in exchange for an honest review!

i loved this. it had everything you need in a romance. at first i thought it was going to be one of those "lighter" romances. dont get me wrong they are still the ones i cherish and love. but you know what i mean, they are lighter on your heart, lol. and because of the theme of a magic flower i did think this trope would follow. but somehow the whole book held magic. it was just so lovely. but not sickening or silly. its never felt cliche or like it was just fluffy. the relationships felt real. they felt like they were deep enough to really root and get engrossed in.
but they did it in a way that made you smile. made you want to see these two together because it would make everyone so dam happy!
this is a friends to romance read. and its done so lovingly. their relationship would have been one of such great love whether that be in friendship or on to more than that. and i really felt that all the way through. it never felt like it had to turn into romance just for the plots/trope/themes sake.
Peter was smart. and he wasnt a jock which was refreshing. he had his gaurd up at times because he really did want to be our fmc friend and never wanted to ruin that. but he did, he did love her.
sophie was guarded. and i think putting her belief in the magical flower was her way of showing that fear. she was relying on something other because shed lost the belief in herself.
this book felt good. but thats not to mean it lacked depth. it seemed to somehow have it all. and that is a talented author who can do that.
i cant wait for more from this author if this book is anything to go by.
